Fun Player's Guide to the Galaxy
Well let's see.... I'm here, but not quite sure what I'm doing here.
I mean I don't feel drunk.
I thought 7/9 would be a fitting date to mark the start point of whatever this will be. 79 being my favorite hand and all. Yes one thing you should know about fun players is that we all have our favorite hand. Usually it ties back to some big pot you won from playing badly and running godly. For me that hand is 7♠9♠
I guess the purpose of this thread is to provide me an outlet to post random updates related to poker.
I haven't played a whole lot in recent years due to time constraints. Live poker is just so time consuming. But I have managed to fit in 1 or 2 tourneys a year and the occassional cash session once a month or so. Not much to write home about. I min cashed some $1100 event last summer and am up a fair amount in the limited cash I've played.
I also play some online, but options for Americans are pretty crappy. I mostly play 100NL 6 max on ignition and some of their tourneys once in awhile. I recently checked out Bet Online and have dabbled in 50NL 6max. The player pool is super small. There seems to be like maybe 10 regs and a handful of random weaker players. At peak hrs there are maybe 4 tables going. I play without a HUD so I'm only 1 or 2 tabling anyways.
I plan on playing the Monster Stack again next year, but will also schedule time so I can play the ME as well. It would be nice to subsidize that with my cash play. So I guess the main goal/challenge is to make $11,500 within about 150hrs of play.
And the side quest will be to make a good showing in the tourneys.
As for where my game is at: Though I've played relatively little, I've actually studied quite a bit. My thoughts on the game in both cash and tournaments has changed quite dramatically over the last few years. I feel my tournament fundamentals have become more solid, but I still find myself Selbsting off my stack near every money bubble. This is one thing I've never bothered to fix. I think it's time now to stop that and see what it does for my results.
For this month I can probably fit in one cash session and I will also be playing a $1650 at the end of the month.
For cash I typically play 2/5 and 5/10.

PF: Villain opens UTG to 30, hero UTG+1 3bets to 110 with AQo, HJ cold calls, folds back to Villain who calls.

Villain bets 500, hero raises to 1k, villain makes crying call and mucks.
I think that is a mistake. You can have blocks and overbets here on the turn vs. a missed c-bet, and 22 fits squarely into a large bet strategy. If you sim this, then vs the block Ip is supposed to raise quite a lot and defend close to MDF vs either sizing... this a node people are probably more inelastic in than others and will raise nowhere near an equilibrium amount vs. a block so you lose quite a bit of EV compared to whatever a sim says when you go with the smaller sizing.

Perhaps this specific hand doesn't like it and maybe it is a small mistake, but in general I only split sizes vs fish.
This is one of the best regs in the pool and at least at my current level I don't think I can get away w/ something more complicated that I can execute accurately and consistently without giving up elsewhere.
Regarding the fold I'm pretty confident here. I've kind of employed a Doug Polk type strategy of stationing hard in many spots so a lot of the regs are kind of deterred from trying to bluff me too often.

Lost a day of play due to travel. I'm in Dallas currently.
Got a short session in the morning. Only two tables going but almost all fish for some reason.

Might be the first week I don't hit the $250 Beast. I don't think I'm locked out depends how much I can get in today but probably will only have a couple hours to catch up before the clock resets.
Might have to 18 table 100 and 200 to have a chance of getting there.
Most likely have to settle for the $125 this week.
Still studying the check back nodes. I do see the 125-250 theme on a lot of boards.
But I think vs fish I'm still going to use the 1/3 sizing as they are just so much wider and thus weaker.
But vs regs makes sense to size up on boards they're stronger in so I think I had that backwards.
