OnceAToaster - Newbie Journey From NL5 Upwards
Hey all! I'll keep it as concise as possible as I realise these threads are probably quite common, and half of the time don't last.
I've gotten into poker over the last 3 ish months and first started with SnGs, but moved over to cash games. I started with ~15k hands of a mix between NL2 and NL5 and have recently started taking this a little more seriously.
My stats are going to start from my current small sample size of NL5 hands, and will try to do at minimum weekly updates.
Current Shorter Term Goals:
- Play 25k hands at NL5
- Play 50k hands at NL5
- Be a winning player at NL5
- Build a bankroll for NL10
I'm going to shy away from setting long-term goals at the moment, and just focus on making good decisions now in the hopes to climb to higher and higher stakes as I (hopefully) improve 😀
Stats:
Current BR - $125.77
Total Hands - 6,297
Net Won - $42.27
All-in Adj - $31.11
bb/100 - 13.43
All-in Adj bb/100 - 9.88
VPIP - 19.7
PFR - 16.6
3Bet - 8.52
Fold to 3Bet - 44.6
Flop CBet - 54.4
Flop Fold vs CBet - 48.6
WTSD% - 30.4
W$SD% - 52.5
Steal% - 26.8
Hoping to update this atleast once a week, maybe along with some hands that I found difficult.
As far as learning goes, I have a subscription to upswingpoker, and have just completed the basic no limit simplified section of the course, so will be moving forward on to more advanced topics.
I also try to review my worst 10 or so hands of each session to see if there are any glaring mistakes I'm making by deviating from the basic strategy outlined in upswing.
Let's hope we can improve!

First 10k hands at 10NL
I've been getting back into poker recently, maybe the last 30 days or so. Started at 5NL but moved up to 10NL at the start of June.
Clearly not a great start, but I've started Grade 1 of Carrot Poker School this week, taking notes along the way, rewatching lectures until the theory really does sink in. Hopefully when I've completed grade 1, I'll have a better understanding of the fundamentals, and we might see my red line improve a bit.
I'll try and update this thread once a week or so.
Targets for myself at the moment are as follows:
- 1. Complete CPS Grade 1
- 2. Put in ~30k hands a month
- 3. Tag hands for review during the sessions
I think these are reasonable, and importantly, things that are within my control.
Here are my stats at the moment, looking a bit nitty.
Enjoying CPS at the moment, but applying the knowledge I'm learning is another skill entirely. Let's see how this goes!
