Kid’s got alligator blood. Can’t get rid of him.
It's been awhile since I posted last. Got a new job and didn't have enough time to play or study much so basically took a few weeks off from poker.
ACR has honestly been the hardest site to play on for me out of 5 sites and I am making the decision to only play there under 2 conditions.
1] I am playing my A+ game and 100% not worried about short term results
2] No traffic in early early mornings (I have A LOT of downtime at work, so I am taking in a laptop and playing and/or studying when I can. Average like 3-5 hours of free time per day)
For now I dropped down stakes for zoom and I am playing on Ignition and will prioritize playing there to continue to build my BR.
IGNITION 40K SAMPLE @ 5NL ZONE
Still not really playing any reg tables. I am running a few buy ins under EV on the reg tables over a small sample and haven't had any motivation or incentive to switch to them.
I am still looking for a study group/mentor if anyone has any interest in that.
Update on studies...
Still going through Upswing Lab material and it finally is starting to feel like the dots are connecting.
Also I am trying to listen to at least 30 minutes or so of The Mental Game of Poker and that might not seem like much, but I feel a huge difference on and off the tables so I am going to keep using that as my morning commute noise.
I know you're right and I know these things in the back of my mind. I guess it's just hard to step back and calm down sometimes. Better to let loose here or discord instead of punching my monitor or start shoving stacks w/ATC pre (like i used to do on ACR blitz). It's crazy how the world can feel completely against you in the pursuit of something, although I'm devoting as much of my time as I can. Car rides are audio book of TMGoP or poker podcasts and any free time during work I'm on my laptop
Not everyone is made for poker. But I will say Phil Hellmuth has won the most bracelets of any poker player ever and hes one the biggest hot heads in poker history. He never quits he just keeps playing and focuses on getting better after calling someone an idiot about 20 times. Instead of putting your energy into feeling sorry for yourself ask questions about hands and get better or just quit. Feeling sorry for yourself or looking at the world as half empty is not going to improve your results. You have 2 arms right? My friend tore ligament in his right arm can't play online poker now right? Nope hes now learned to use a mouse with his left hand. He whined about it like you. I said well you got a left hand. Play or quit. Hes playing left handed now until he has surgery. The people that play victim wont make it in poker.
OKAY. Here it is. 50k hands winning over 10bb/100 in EVbb. 6.1bb/100 I don't think is that bad either considering rake is eating us alive down here. I'm off to 30nl this weekend for better or for worse. I'm going in with the (now)10bi I have taken off the 10nl tables.
I finished another listen/readthrough of TMGoP also this week (3rd time, now onto the fourth time). Also been crushing trainer/range builder in GTOwiz. Going to have to set new goals now
EVbb/100 is my new religion

25-30nl shot take 5k hand update
Put in some of the longest sessions I have ever done. This weekend managed to get 16 hours on PartyPoker and 10bi. One session was 10hours and one session was 5 hours. I used to be breaking about once an hour to smoke a partial blunt (best way to burn imo) or hit a pen but I'm slowly feeling like I don't want to be high when playing. Sometimes studying is okay high but also starting to not like it so much. Been smoking since I was 17 or so and just never stopped, I have heard a few people say it's night and day diff when they stop. What are your experiences?
Pokerstars is going okay, breakeven for the shot take there. But getting my nerves settled in. Honestly pretty cool to finally sit these tables and not worry so much about the $ because usually im just blinded by thinking it's so much compared to 10nl. Although when I get a juicy hand I am still getting the rush and sweating a bit. Idk though, I'm still not running great so a bit of monsters under the bed when these run outs come but I'm still making moves, still getting it in good and I'm simply at the mercy of the deck. Whatever... I'm just lying in wait for the luck to turn in my favor. Still winning so gonna have to run worse than this to make me stop.
Going good for the last few days. Bankroll is healthy. I made a $150 deposit onto Party to be able to split sites but that was obviously a great decision. Roll is almost at $1k and that is 50nl shotting territory... oh man...

Back to square one every single time that I start to feel proud and hopeful.
Poker seems to be a very cruel game.
Games are good, the cards are not.
Was going through some DB stuff and wanted to save this like a checkpoint.

Solid results. Glad your efforts are paying off.

If anything, it will add more stress. Most staking arrangements are 50/50, so you would need to at least double your stakes to make the same amount of money. So now, you will owe someone money when you have a downswing, and once you are deep in makeup, it becomes a downward spiral, because you will most likely have to move down, which makes getting out of makeup even more difficult.
You are crushing the games and are just being impatient. Stick to your process, quit crying about coolers, and just keep playing your A game.

I mean lets be honest, I'm not making any money in poker (it's all in BR or tools/subs/material acquired) and not interested in earning @uNL. I aim to be able to leave my Job so I need to actually bring home a profit worth bringing home, the good news is I don't need to beat much. When i mention CFP or staking or mentor, it's to fast track some things that maybe I'm spending too much time on because have to figure out on my own. It's funny because my first thought of this idea is to play on someone else's roll until basically 100nl-200nl, not the other way around where I would be splitting profits at uNL hoping to get out one day.
Thanks for clearing this up right away and offering some clear and obvious cons to staking (would be bad idea for me, I agree). I could see merit to some forms of it however. But getting agreement to some terms probably doesn't come easily. I am impatient, I need to get into the gym again and doing yoga/meditation or something. I'm turning into a potato and I use to be in good shape. That could be affecting my confidence and self trust also. Man, it feels like there are not enough hours in a day but this is almost 100% product of poor self management, efficiency, organization. I need to improve life skills. Need to improve everything ig.
Going to keep crying about coolers, but I could move those to BBV. But it's weird, I for sure have this revenge tilt at my core as if every lost hand the villain is in my head and had planned for the event and executed perfectly. 3 read throughs of TMGoP and you would think i'd be a little better at managing.

Cash game staking is one of those arrangements where the stars have to align for everyone to succeed. If you are good at poker, you shouldn't need a stake. The people seeking a stake are either bad at poker, bad at risk management, or bad with personal finance. It's almost predatory as far as the staker goes, because if the stakee is trustworthy, the staker assumes very little risk, because once you are in makeup, you make no money until he is paid back in full.
If you have a job, just put some extra money towards your poker bankroll and take aggressive shots. Bet on yourself.
MONTH
Here is the shot take results so far. (spoiler)
Main takeaway for this month is have confidence in my approach. I'm doing okay. I have a prop bet with my study group that I can no longer be negative or have self deprecating talk or I forfeit a buy in to whoever calls me out on it.
Still getting some 10hour sessions in combined through out the day and feeling good about it. I hope I can keep up this volume but it really cuts into my study time. Also dropped 6 tables altogether and 4 is max, but I'm honestly playing the best at 3 rn being able to focus on a lot more things that I want to consider.
Hopeful that FEB is going to go OK. Just watching my EV go up in every spot that I study is making me insatiable. How do I stop time?
Unfortunately if you're 30bi under ev or whatever, then the expectation is to stay 30bi under ev for whatever stretch of hands you end up playing after the fact.
I'm well over 100bi under ev lifetime and >$25k, and many people are way way worse. Just focus on good game play and decision making.
At 50k when I ran pretty bad it managed to work it's way back into my stack. SO THERE IS HOPE!
I saw that you're considering playing for a stake/CFP group and I'd like to give you my 2 cents about it.
The upside of that IMO is that you have access to resources that will help you beat micro and low stakes significantly faster.
For example, in the current team that I am now I have access to the elite version of gtowizard that costs $149 per month, something that I would never have access if I had to pay it from my own pocket (not even the standard version to be honest).
You also have access to 1 coaching session per week and you can post hands everyday on the discord server at any time and always have some feedback. If I had to pay coach sessions per hour individually I would certainly have to spend a huge part of my bankroll doing that.
Another positive point is that when you move up to NL50 or NL100 the team gives you access to the MDA study that was developed for that player pool that you are playing, that means that you no longer need to blindly follow the simplified strategy that they give you, you can start making your own adjustments based on the info that you have access about the player profiles from that pool. That way you can exploit the population a lot more than you would if you didn't had access to that and therefore have a far greater WR.
Hey thanks for the response and insight to your experiences, Slim. Yeah it's something I still consider because I don't withdraw really from my roll so I wouldn't be too concerned with dropping a few 100k hands or a year or so on a "mission" with a cfp. Mostly to augment my learning process with tools/info that I shouldn't need to spend too much time on discovering myself (discovery is only the first step lol still have lots of processing)
The pros are there, the cons are there. I'm not convinced one way or the other. I personally haven't heard any GREAT stories about cfps, and more horror stories I have seen than Cinderella stories. Still something to consider still I guess.

Poker ain't dead yet
Weekend results. Feel like I'm probably punting when I get really tired but still want to log in the hours on the tables. I haven't tried to slow down volume because I'm still winning at a nice clip. Doubled down on study, doubled down on table time and the bankroll is swelling nicely.
I decided to put a halt on the 50nl tables and be more strict about sitting those tables. I think I'm beating the players there probably but I get $ scared there and also running a little under EV. Just sucks to lose a big pot there. My of my recent BR growth has been stunted because of 50nl losses. Only takes one or 2 bigger pots lost to have a little hill to climb back up. Not too worried about it because 25nl isn't as big of a jump as it was going from 10nl up. I'm keeping more confidence and getting better in general from playing 25nl so that's where i think i need to be for awhile more at least.
25nl results so far (about 2 weeks of shotting it here and it's going well)
Loving my SB results for the last few weeks.
BR hit about $1600 this weekend. Going for $2k asap and at that point I will be making moves to establish at 50nl.
Still feel like I need a personal coach for full speed development. Still looking for the right dynamic to make this happen.
It looks like you are way over folding the river. Filter for your river folds and look through your hands to see where you are missing clear calls. Fish are overbluffing like crazy, so you really need to make some loose calls vs them. This is a small sample size, though.
