How to study a metagame or a top player?

I see that there are many tools and that work is done not only in the metagame but in studying the top players of said stack. Do you recommend that I pay someone to give me those leaks tips etc... or is there somewhere where I can learn how to use hand2note, I am totally new with said program and before starting to study it etc I wanted to know your opinion, thank you.
