Summary of Bad Beats
Hand 1
Some years in a small NLH tourney at the Orleans in Vegas.
Bunch of limpers in a pot, I have JTs and flop comes J22. I make a small bet and get one caller. Turn is a T giving us top two, but I can't beat a 2 and it checks through. River is a J giving us top full house. I lead, villain jams, I call. Villain shows 22 for quads.
Hand 2
Small tourney at Planet Hollywood, close to money bubble.
I have AA and shove with small stack. Villain calls with A9. Flop comes AQ8. We're over 98%. Turn and river come J & T. Villain makes a straight to win.
Hand 3
$1/3 PLO cash game at WSOP.
Hand is 4456.
Flop comes 347. We have the nut straight and middle set. Gets all in post flop for about $400.
Villain has 567J. Also nut straight and top pair. Turn and river are J & 7 giving villain a runner runner nut full house.
Hand 4
$4/$8 Omaha Hi/Lo at Lucky Chances near San Francisco
I'm in the big blind with a hand that I would always muck pre-flop. It has 7h8h in it.
Flop comes 4s9hTh. We have an open ended straight flush draw. Action checks through.
Turn is a ten. Villain bets. I assume a full house. I contemplate folding, but decide to call the $8 and allow myself a little adventure. One other calling.
River is the Jh !!!! We have a straight flush, but technically not the nuts since QhKh can beat us.
Action is capped on the river and sure enough, the other caller is holding QhKh. I lose the hand.
But .... it's Tues at Lucky Chances and the regular Omaha bad beat jackpot of $17,600 is doubled and I get half of the total. After tax, I take home $13k.
Hand 5
Worst beat I've ever seen. I'm not in the hand. It's a small NLH tourney at the Golden Nugget. Two players all in preflop. One shows TT and the other shows JJ. Flop comes with TT making quads. Turn and river are both J making better quads.
Play enough poker ... you see everything.
