Was up until this hand...
I played some cash poker last night $1/$3 NL Holdem, was up about $300 until this hand.....I'm in the SB with Qh Th, $80 pot, flop is Kh Jd 8h, 4 callers total. I check to the bettor, the villain leads with another $20, I call we go heads up Ac on the turn. Villain bets $30, I re-raise to $60, I have a straight now and Villain calls. Ah hits the river.
Board is now Kh Jd 8h Ac Àh. Pot is about $240....I l value bet $75, villain re-raise to $180. I call. I have a straight and a flush but he has A8 for a boat!!!
Could I have played this better?

Agree with nitty
Would you have called with QTo?
QTs is 3% stronger
When Ed Miller talked about playing suited over non-suited it was about proper frequency aimed at not playing too many hands. Sure, there’s the flush potential too, but it’s not a big factor. Also, non-nut flushes will only cost you.
Not sure what happened pre-flop, but the only way you can play this hand, is as a bluff. If you donked big or check-raised the flop, you probably win this hand. By the turn, it’s too late. Just a whole lot of unnecessary risk.
So, I don’t know if you had a little winner’s tilt going on, or if you don’t realize this is a very marginal hand.
$80 pot with four players, meaning you’re somehow in for $20 with QTh preflop and poised to play out of position the rest of the way. You put yourself in a bad position, and it’s hard to find positive EV however you got there.
But then you get what amounts to a miracle flop that gives you a 68% chance for a made hand (assuming my math is right). I would have check raised huge on the flop. A8 might have called, but it’s hard to see him doing that. And anyway, you want him to call in that spot. If you lose, that’s variance. You are a favorite. Many bad beats occur as a result of the hero letting the villain get there.
Look, a few things to analyze:
1: why are you play on position? It's always better to play out of position so you can check raise more easily. First fail.
2: QTs is literally the worst hand in poker because 1 out of 3.7 times you'll be dominated by QQ. The most likely flop if you were against QQ would be QTT and you'd lose.
3: Reading your hand it seems like they don't respect your raises there, he reraised you showing little to no respect.
Move up.
4: You might be more suited to play 5/T where people would LITERALLY never ever call with hands like A8. You would've won pf had you played 5/T. Think about that for a second.
5: Final advice: judging by the words you used I can tell you're from Ireland. Ireland has LITERALLY the worst live games ever. I'd rather play somewhere else where you can win money. Irish players are tough, Gary McShean or Neil McFoyth are great examples.
