from micros to high stakes

Hi everyone. Im 28 years old micro stakes player from Finland. I have been playing for years, but always stayed at the lowest stakes. Because it is the new year I felt that maybe I should do some kind of new years resolutions, and decided to set a goal for cool +50k profit for the year. Maybe its little ambitious and variance is a bitch, but always liked to set my goals kinda high. Reason why I haven’t really moved to higher stakes are that when I have won something, I always withdraw the money out, and spend it to something stupid. Nowadays my life roll is little healthier, so hopefully those days are behind. I decided to write this blog in 2+2, bc I think the audience is bit bigger, and writing in English is always fun.

So im playing pretty much only mtt:s on GG, but every once in a while I’ll play on different sites, if there are some kind of series. My main game is holdem. I like plo as well, even tho I’m not that great at it. Luckily 98% of the players in micro plo mtts are worse than me, so there is some money to be made there :-)

End of the year 24 I deposited 50d to gg, and now it is 750d. I have been playing a lot lately, 11 days this month already and I really am feeling great about my game. Run has been kind of swingy, quite many ft bubbles and early ft bustouts, but I have been able to win two tournaments. Unfortunately I still have a day-time job and a relationship (not unfortunately), so cant always play as much I want, but luckily I manage with very little sleep.

Trying to post here pretty often, at least once a week. If there is somebody that feels they are decent at micro-stakes and would like to chat about hands strategy etc, it would be nice to share some thoughts!

glgl to everyone and have a great new year :-)

Good luck with your goal. I hope you'll make a lot of money from poker. I think setting high goals is the way to go.

But if I could give you one piece of advice, it is to not sacrifice your sleep for things like poker, at least not until you reach high stakes.

Also, I feel like New Year is a very arbitrary date. It shouldn't make any difference whether it's a new year or the middle of the year; if you have the internal drive to reach high stakes, you'll do it. If you have short-lived motivation because of some arbitrary date, I think it will be one or two weeks before that motivation is exhausted.

And on the topic of goals and motivation, I would recommend reading this book: *Black and White: The Way I See It* by Richard Williams. Richard Williams is the father of tennis players Venus and Serena Williams, who are considered two of the best tennis players of all time.

Thanks!! I actually meant that I don't naturally need that much sleep, 5 to 6 hours per night is enough for me and I don't feel tired after that. You're definitely right with the new year thing. I just felt like this is the right time for me to try get this shit little bit more professional, so I decided to make this some kind of new year resolution.. lol

also thanks for the book recommendation, gonna add it to the list. I actually really love to read, just finished walter isaacson's book about elon musk. everybody who is interested in us politics, tesla, etc. should read that and see how elon has changed :-)

Hello again! I took few days off and got back in the saddle today. Had a pretty decent day and I surely did run very well, couple of first place finishes and won 3 tickets to bigger tournaments. This weekend was pretty rough, my partner moved and I was there helping and carrying stuff, so I'm pretty happy that I had some energy to play a session. At the end of the session I decided to drink some beer and I am starting to feel it lol. But anyways, there is no plans for tomorrow and off-day from work, so I'm going to grind all day. Won a ticket to Zodiac Main, would love to make the day 2 of that :-)
