2025 Life-Poker Goals
Hi everyone,
I'm starting this thread to hold myself accountable and share my journey with you all.
Current Status:
On a poker detox since October 2024, focusing on other aspects of life.
Goals for 2025:
No alcohol for the entire year.
Gym (Weightlifting/Strength) 3-4 times per week.
Running 1-2 times per week.
Yoga/Stretching 1-2 times per week to start.
Key Dates:
31.05.2025: 10km (6.2 miles) local race.
October 2025: 9.3km race through forest/woods with hills and some pavement sections.
Completed this run in 2023 in 58:36 minutes with minimal training and poor shoes.
Ran it in 2013 in around 50 minutes.
Recent Training:
Had a cardio session on the treadmill a few weeks ago with gym buddies:
3km run (~20 mins)
40 mins of 1 min run/1 min rest intervals
Another 3km run
Total time: ~83 minutes (brutal session with bad shoes, planning to invest in new running shoes next salary).
Work Schedule:
Working Monday to Friday, so poker will be limited to Saturdays and Sundays, which fits well with my alcohol-free lifestyle.

Im 33 years old and living in Scandinavia btw. Dream is to move abroad again, Spain, Malta or new place.
All lifts are in kilograms.

These workouts I always do assistance work for higher reps, will not log this. Also not logging warmup lifts before working weight, but usually 3 sets on main lift and maybe some bike/rowing machine/walk.

Bad sleep night before and was tempted to ditch the scheduled Yin Yoga session and just go to the gym, or ditch them both.
Dumbbell Bench Press standard and Close-Grip, Pyramid from 20kg dumbells to 34kg dumbells
And incline Dumbbell Press from 24kg to 34kg - got 4 slow and controlled reps with 34kg and happy with that.
Followed by 1h Yin Yoga session. This is basically only stretching and breathing and I think very good for me, learn to focus on belly breathing.
*I understand this is a poker-site and probably not that entertaining for most folks. I will probably not be updating this in a while, but nice to have something to look back at. I will track progress in chat-gpt/on my computer, and then update here in blog when I have started playing poker.
Also played 5card plo 0.25/0.50$ at iPoker for 2 hours on Sunday, we lost like 32h after losing a big pot w AA77x single suited OOP vs loose button that 3bets 23376 and calls our 4b, flop is 344 and we have nut fd, SPR is like 1 ish and we cbet like 25% and we get it in.
First session since October 2024 where we got 8th place in Level of Each Pot Limit Omaha/NLHE live event €250 buyin with 800 entrants, was nice to hit a FT, but we busted main PLO and main NLHE so breakeven with hotel+flight expenses.
Not sure if I should play PLO, NLHE, PLO5 , cash or MTTS or a mix - I think maybe NLHE mtts and PLO cash/mtts.. as NLHE is kinda boring and my PLO game is not that bad.. 😀

Had popcorn and a lot of sugary junk saturday evening. Barely touching sugar and **** like this, but being 100% sober I mean its ok once pr week for a while...

*Started reading Atomic Habits. Eager to play poker again after almost 3 months break. Will continiue study pads on pads mtt course before starting playing, then will probably grind MTTs on saturday and sundays as this does not interfere with my work schedule.
*Made a budget with total debts/income/expenses and by September 2025 im officially debt-free
*December 2026 I can buy my own apartment/house
Challenge: Go from spending 2k usd a month on food, nicotine etc to 700 usd pr month. Idiotic to use this much on food when I can save money for future self.
Basically lifting weights 4-5 times pr week, this is a habit and not a big challenge to maintain. Will have to focus a bit more on cardio (running) in the future, waiting for paycheck to buy new shoes and maybe a watch to monitor progress etc.
32 days sober today and sleep is good!!

Sleep 00-10 (10h) but woke up 2-3 times by people partying, but all in all thats a good night sleep..
Breakfast was norwegian smoked salmon, 110g on "rye bread shortbread" some healthy low kcal high fibre thing. Almost mixed in some cherry tomatos + paprica from yesterdays dinner.
11:00 Classic Yoga session for 75 minutes, without any coffee or tea. I usually always start my day with coffee. But it was good and the session put me in a naturally relaxed and energetic state by the end of the session.
After this I went for a quiet walk in the city/neighborhood, bought a black coffee and 'healthy' bread from local bakery. And also bought some SNUS, aka nicotoine, which is a habit I have not been able to kick! I buy the strongest one from a local 'smartshop' here in Norway, so at least I save money on buying this item and not from regular stores. 1 bog is around 8 usd and I can have this for 24hours... In the past I would use maybe 1.5x box pr 24h..
Anyway lets do a recap since our last post. I will just write this and then put it into chat gpt and request for the post to be edited so it will be better suitable as a forum post.. 😀

We went to a bhirtday party without alcohol, but we had chocolate cake, 2 pieces after a nice fish meal. Fresh Norwegian cod with potatos, bacon, vegetables etc, so had a very good chest session before this!

8th of february - The classic yoga session as mentioned before, and then had a good crab meal just now, will go for a hike with my headset on soon, and plan for the evening is to sell items via our national "craigslist" site.
* 37 days sober so roughly 10% of goal is completed (2025 Sober) 😀
I think my new plan of just playing saturdays and sundays will be great, and I just keep my daily job and try to evolve my game and maybe I get lucky and bink something, but I will not be in need of binking anything as im playing with good BRM and its more like a hobby. Still taking a break from poker and not sure when I will play next time.
