Returning to MTT and Poker

Hi everyone,

My name is Tales. I’m a 29-year-old poker player originally from Australia, now living in Hong Kong. I recently made the move to be with my girlfriend and to return to playing poker full-time. This journal will be a place where I share my results, thoughts, and experiences as I transition from being a part-time player and occasional traveler to becoming a dedicated professional.

Over the past few years, I’ve faced some of life’s toughest challenges from battling a terminal illness to dealing with major depression and a number of personal struggles. But through it all, one thing has remained constant: my love for the game.

In my first year of playing, I had a breakthrough; chopping the biggest buy-in event I’d played for $55,000 and winning a seat to the 54th WSOP, which also happened to be my first time in the U.S. It was a surreal experience. Just 18 months later, I scored my first six-figure cash by finishing third in a major event, along with my first five-figure score online via Natural8.

I’ve always leaned more on instinct than theory, but that’s starting to change. As I continue studying and seeking advice from others, I’m now in a position to round out my game and polish my skills to reach the next level. After my illness, I stepped away from poker; my savings and bankroll took a hit, and my focus was just surviving. But now I’m back, committed to grinding up again with the goal of traveling to the WSOP and other major events.
