The Only Thing Better Than Running Good Is Running Bettor
Aight, so check it out. This is the story of a millionaire cash grinder who made his way running pure as the driven snow. That's the full story anyway, but let’s start from the beginning.
Brooklyn has changed, but growing up in an old school neighborhood you get exposed to old school vices, gambling included. Charity 50/50s, every bar and local business running box pools—hell I can still remember my dad’s OTB account and password plus his standard greeting with his bookie, word for word, no problem. And I’m not one to just spectate. I was testing the waters as young as 11 and poker was always part of it.
I turn 21 and weekends of low stakes inebriation down the city they call Atlantic become commonplace. Between the nightclubs and the pit games, I spend some time in the 1/2 streets – drinking like a fish and losing money I barely have. But that aside, I graduate college and I know it’s time to make some serious bread. I break off a $1K bankroll from my graduation money and away we go.
I bust the $1K in a week. Then I bust $10K more in a year, often carrying a balance with a friend who happens to be flush.
Somethings gotta give. I’m running so bad. I gotta run better! And run better I do. A few online final tables, a few weekends up all night getting lucky down the garden state, some thrifty living, some hustle and bustle and next thing you knew I’m out of debt with a little roll of my own.
Now I’m feeling myself and the only thing to do when you’re running good, is to run better! I refocus my efforts. I become a regular on the Greyhound, the finest lodging establishments route 30 has to offer, and the village of Borgata. I sun run for a few months, dragging pots and managing to not get robbed and/or murdered in the motels or at the bus stop. Before you know it, I’m taking my first shots at 2/5.
I’m shooting my shot when the world decides to run horrible. Some global elite conspiracy runs train on a bat to further their shadow government agenda and the entire planet closes shop. Locked away in an unfinished basement, I become a scaled aquatic creature splashing around on the online felt and wash away a not insignificant part of my bankroll.
But it aint so bad. A new day job with a much-improved salary keeps me afloat. And at the end of the day I know what I need to do to turn it around, just need to run better! I keep pushing in the online games and when the pandemic subsides, I’m back down at Borgata. I start to take some under-rolled 5/10 shots and it really feels like we’re gaining momentum.
But instead I run as bad as I have ever run when I lose my dad —to a stroke not a poker game. My world changes forever, I’ll probably never really understand how much he meant to me. I keep getting in my reps but my mind, body, and soul aren’t in it. The bankroll dwindles and then life delivers a swift kick while I’m down and I get laid off.
For a few months I generally drift about, lost in a cloud of high-grade pot and drowning in old fashioneds. Life is slowly overtaking me, but as the life roll approaches somewhat concerning levels of depletion, I hear the call again. The only way I’m going to escape fates grip is to run better!
I’m back on the trot, grinding up a roll in 2/5 at Parx and Borgata. Four months in and I score a new day job too. Thing are on the up and up and I run like an absolute god for a year.
Here’s where you come in —welcome to the show! Not quite a millionaire yet but we’re doing our thing in live cash games between 5/10 and 10/25. We’re even making some friends! We’re going to be sharing more, connecting more, and I hope you'll be part of that. So let me know what kind of content you’re interested in, ask a question, or just drop a comment to say what’s good.
And always remember, the only thing better than running good is Running Bettor!

This weekend was like a dull aching pain.
Celebrated the life of a dear friend Friday , RIP ECHO.
Got down to Borgata late, no 5/10 running, called list only 3 sat, nobody wanted to play short. Played 2/5 for a few hours before sleeping.
10ish hours of 5/10/20 Saturday, lost a little, less than it felt like though which was weird.
Noodles and the Wine Bar are fire though, that’s always nice.
Two weekends off now for family affairs, hopefully we get some good work in off table and come back in a few weeks hot!
