Mix game journey
Having had three years of experience in mix games ranging from getting raked to death at $4/8 to shot taking three times
Did you watch any of the 200/400 mix recently posted to YouTube? Any thoughts?” On players or hands?
What’s your favorite game?
Can you post more hands / strat from draw games?
Yeah I watched the stream on pokergo. The production was pretty bad, nowhere near Dollys Game stream a few years ago. It was... choatic... n not a good way to attract players
Cool story - the night before they shot the game iirc, I played in crazy mikes 150/3 game at bellagio. up 4k then lost 4capped pots in a row to book -12k in the end. 2 in plo 1 in double board plo and 1 in drama2 where i had board on turn w pads having low n mike having inferior board n he rivered the board hi to chop w pads - i calced the odds later it was super close to play for half there - wouldve been nice to lose 7 instead of 12k

Not a hard guess
Fav game is badugi - so many ways to snow n so fine margin in value v value-owning-yourself w ur 7s 8s n 9s
I have even gotten check raise bluff with double suited pairs by aggro opponents!
How often does Omaha mix run? Is it public?
bloody session
up 10k right away, finally won a cap pot in plo kk>qq all in pre
then another plo hand where i could have XRed if eli had some value hand but i decided to just donk
soon we are five handed n while ppl r on break we played 3handed stud8 instead of taiwanese (later when ppl took breaks i lost a measly 4points aka $400 at taiwanese)
starting from that stud8 hand i went downhill till the end of the session, about 1.5hr
-2bets vs maxx coleman in stud8
three big hands:
-5.5bets vs luke schwartz (me bb v utg) in badacey went to 5bets pre i was oop - i was dealt a 75-75 he had 6 dugi n made 6 low right away too n raised me - you can't Not pay off
-4.5bets vs luke schwartz in razz, he's tight but i didnt think he was that atrong on 3rd but we not folding 76 welp he had 75 on fifth iirc
-4.5bets in a weird stud hi hand vs aditya where i got sticky and paid off all streets w two pair v two pair both on fourth. eric completes w ace showing i called w (J6)J luke calls w whatever aditya defends w (2A)2 n check raise erics open aces n my Jacks up im surprised eric folded but i just pay him off like a donkey, i thought Aditya was just trying to push his equity... I played hella bad this hand obv
-1.5bets in badeucey vs eric123
-1bet in o8
-3bets in a big four way pot badeucey had to fold the river too
-2bets vs limit holdem vs eric123
-3.5badugi bvb v luke schwartz 2-2 a23 v 654A i paid him off
last hand before i quit:
stud8
i defend (88)38K vs aditya' (35)46J
i catch 4 he catches 2
and i catch J he catches 7
another 4.5bets
so total tally in these hands in order
1600
4400
2700
2700
1200
800
2400
1200
2100
3600
-22.7k in these hands
and i went from up around 10 to a -18.5 loser --- playing more understand the swing. 28.5k not bad.
big game big swing. sucks to lose. we good tho. Experience is a good teacher. Still wish that I can soon be paid back the loans I have out......about 18k n that will make me feel like I am freerolling a buyin at 3/600 😀
It's similar to when I started playing 80/160 sometimes the higher the stakes, I try to play more fancy and fight for pots in mediocre spots - which is very costly - certainly a leak I have.
I'll reanalyze the sesh after I get home.
I did win one hand during all the losses
+3 bets b maxx coleman is a badeucey pot in where i led turn like folds big n maxx calls
i pat j-j he missed im scoop
went back to the table
they are playing hu chinese n taiwanese as usual
luke admits he ran so pure v me in that badacey hand n he went from case 5 to like 45 pretty sick
fullflush!!!!!!
as elezra said - u give bad beats u take bad beats its poker
we good.
You seem to be in the know. Any thoughts on Cong’s game?? Heard it competes with crazy mike’s.
What roll someone realistically needs to play big mix?

Congs game is 2/4 sometimes 150/3
I played once during summer late at night; supposedly co run by mike but i never played or spoke w Cong once - its sort of a different group of ppl (?) idk much
idk if Cong n Mike were in competition
Mike n resorts world game were in comp for sure n bellagio won. But mike never plays 80 w us.
if ur roll = life + poker roll - I think use the 5% rule - aka every sesh u risk at most 5% of ur roll (u can differentiate bigbet n fixed limit urself) say for 80/160 normal buyin is 4k u have 80k n u can comfortably play that game, its 500big bets
Aggressively tho, i had this convo w kevin gerhart n ted forrest, even w 200 bets u can play limit fine. That is also the case if u have a seprate poker roll.
Now for crazys or congs 2/4 n eric123's 3/6 game, because of the existence of the big bet games (10 or 15bet caps), u need bigger roll ofc - john monetter said a normal swing in 3/600 is 30-40k n big swing is 70-80k as opposed to 10-20k for a strictly limit game....idk how to estimate the required # of bets.
-----
I always envision a scenario where I go broke again I would save my last 10k or 20k and grind 8/16 o8 at orleans and make 20k a year or find some 15/30, 20/40 game n try to grind out a living. For anyone who has a poker roll set aside - say everytime you have 200bets for a game you can play that limit, you have $8000 go play 20/40 u win u move up find a 30 or 40 game
u lose u drop down to 10/20 limit or even 8/16 n if u cant beat 8/16, well.....
BADUGI,
Is "Cong" Cong Do? If so is he mostly playing in LV these days?
I just quit a horrendous 40 session at the wynn
i dumped 2k in an hour
had some personal things going on aside from the unpaid loans.
wasnt focused at all. **** me.
but anyway - continuing the previous post - without disclosing my roll - you can play 40/80 w a 40k roll; or 80/160 n 100/200 comfortably w a 100k roll given no big bet games exist in the game (or if u can manage the swing properly in say, plo w 10bet cap) - and assuming you are winning at a decent rate - maybe a small bet an hour - and in 3months aka 600 hours of play - say you win 40k, you can try to play big n parlay that 40 into bigger - if u lose, u go back n play 80/160. It's fun climbing stakes in limit.
I am currently down 54k in resorts 3/600 game
testing time difference - local v 2+2
local vegas is -7
2+2 is std gmt so 7 hours ahead
So 10 hours ago is when I quit the southpoint game n say im going home to sleep but only now..... Ten Hours Later I am in uber going home
I played some bacc n got teased by elezra
I went to play 3/600 taking over elis seat n lost a capped pot to adi where i 3b aaj7ss from sb n he calls w a764ds flop qt6 w his spades 53-47 i lost the flip
then i won 2 deuce hands so +2700*2 -- in the end booked a 4k loss
Then I hopped into the 10/20 nl at resorts world (table 2 the same one we used to play 80mix on) n set over set double up followed up aces vs flopped two pair in 3! pot money goes in on flop n i counterfeit him -- won 5.5
Then i played some 8/16 mix up 1rack n lost $20 in the end.
Time to actually sleep!
You can set the 2p2 time to whatever time zone you want.
Thanks for the feedback. It sounds like you don’t need as big a roll as you would in similar big bet games.
Any tips for improving and getting to a level to beat some big mixed games for serious money? I’ve read Lo and Linde’s books and read the Kevin Haney articles in card player magazine. I still don’t seem to be doing as well as I would like though. I’m a very good winner at plo and hold em. Don’t know what the struggle is here.

There simply arent that many winners. In limit games you try to squeeze out thin edges from loose plays, close equity spots...and it takes an eon to realize a true win rate... usually you'd say put 2000 hours into a game to see how you are doing but to me thats still too small of a sample size... you can be running above or below ev without yourself knowing... i know a limit holdem player who won for 9 years and lost an ungodly amount the 10th year playing the same stake.
For lower stakes 8-16 10, 15, 20. i am very happy w $100-200 a day...but its not easy. You have to get in the mix and play hands and look for scoops in various split pot games. The books n articles are good but they can only take you so far - you just have to play n gain experience. Kevin Haney is very sound in theory, we discussed some archie spots - but for someone like him who is visibly good - he still got murdered this summer in paris 20 game. Sure idk his actual results, but every other day you see him getting smoked despite playing much better than the opposition.
Same thing goes for midstakes in my opinion - but you can afford to make less mistakes n surely cant play like a donkey like me a couple days ago in 40/80!
Now if we talking about bigger games where often big bet games are included - first of all its my belief that even if you play against the same opposition you played at lower stakes you cannot achieve the same winrate. Its like if u win $100/hr at 5/10plo you shouldnt be expected to win $1k/hr at 50/100plo... Therefore I dont dare to use the word "beat" for these games. I try to be good enough that I could swim w these sharks - and at this level there's no sucker, esp during off season. Secondly, i simply dont have the credentials to "coach" anyone. Thats why generally I am quiet at the table.
10/25 BigO
i start the hand w 2150
limp AAc3s8cQs utg co limp too n button pots to 150
i call 150 instead of 3! to 525
co calls too
flop Kh4c9s i check co pots 500 w 250 behind BU folds I tank fold
should I have put in 750 to win 2k? (so i was getting 5 to 3)
Of course. It's an atrocious fold.... I suck... I just thought I run into KK so often and against K9 im not in good shape either (2-1 dog)

sold my debts to someone the prop player from Capitol also owes to (who charges juice) for 70 cents on the dollar
lost 1400
we lost 3k n we out
figuring out plan for tonight
bloody sessionup 10k right away, finally won a cap pot in plo kk>qq all in prethen another plo hand where i could have XRed if eli had some value hand but i decided to just donksoon we are five handed n while ppl r on break we played 3handed stud8 instead of taiwanese (later when ppl took breaks i lost a measly 4points aka $400 at taiwanese)starting from that stud8 hand i went
OK Let's analyze the 3/6 session from a couple days ago.
The following is how i think about limit poker, right or wrong...In the parentheses I write the amount I should have lost vs the amount I actually lost.
HAND 1: -2 bets vs maxx coleman in stud8 (1600/1600)
We were three handed I had a small pair w a low card showing defended Maxx's completion w A. There is an argument in stud that you need to be tighter when short handed because there is less antes to fight for, but hands like (66)2 are still to good to not be played.
HAND 2: -5.5 bets vs luke schwartz (3600/4400)
Luke is tight he raised utg i look down in bb 7521 dugi and 75421 low and i 3bet, he 4 bets, i should have called instead of 5 bet because luke likely has a better dugi since he 4! - but honestly at the time I figured against good opponent you have to keep your range uncapped especially being OOP n i am going to pat no less. But if I play conservative I could saved a small bet pre n on flop since he raised on flop after hitting the freeroll. Not really a mistake but we gon include it.
HAND 3: -4 bets vs luke schwartz in razz (600/2400)
maxx limps T in one hold, I complete 3rd last to act w (A6)7, luke tanks on third n decided to flat w 5 showing, Adi folds bringin.
on fourth - luke leads (xx)5A, maxx folds, i call w (A6)74
on fifth - luke leads (xx)5A2, i call w (A6)74J -- clearly my call means I dont believe he has two cards better than 8 in the hole; or he's paired his deuce.
on sixth - luke leads (xx)5A2K, i call w (A6)74J2
on seventh, i dont improve n call n lose to 75421 or 75321, his last card is a nine.
In all actuality you shouldn't be folding 76 n I didn't but I should make an exploitative fold against luke specifically. I have to be strict n say I need to be good enough to get away n save 3 bets.
HAND 4: -4.5bets in a weird stud hi hand vs aditya (900/2700)
eric completes w ace showing i called w (J6)J luke calls w whatever aditya defends w (2A)2 n check raise erics open aces (double bet btw, so checkraise is to 1200) n my Jacks up im surprised eric folded but i just pay him off like a donkey, i thought Aditya was just trying to push his equity...
I honestly dont know this spot but Adi probably isn't good enough to be bluffing there w wheel draw, I'm very surprised eric folded because against AA22 his (Q2)AA has decent equity... maybe he's afraid of me having rolled up or set of sixes. Stay away from fancy play syndrome n stop assuming others are playing fancy n fold like a normal person on 4th... or you know what --- play like a good stud player n reraises eric on 3rd!! Much to learn in stud-hi.
HAND 5: -3bets in a big four way badeucey pot (2400/2400)
standard hand, but didn't break my ten ten on the last draw praying for half...didn't lose money cuz i woulda bricked but certainly a bad play vs a 3bettor who patted the whole way
-1.5bets in badeucey vs eric123, played the hand bit on tilt (0/1200)
-2bets vs limit holdem vs eric123, idk limit holdem (0/1200)
-3.5badugi bvb v luke schwartz 2-2 a23 v 654A i paid him off, didn't hv to call river vs a nobluff range (1500/2100)
-1bet in o8, idk if 2359 or 235K single is playable on button or not, but we wanna play hands, it's probably a fold (0/800)
last hand stud8 hand, pretty standard cooler, adi raised w 3456 hence 4.5 big bets (3600/3600)
overall, (14.2k/22.4k), so we lost 8k more than we are supposed to lose. a 28k downswing could have been a 20k downswing
