im reading this thread on 2+2 about top 20 players of all time. I mean, are we joking? These things simply don't exist. Best association basketball teams of all time - best theoretical physicist of all time - best 400 meter runner of all time - best railroad train of all time - best self-made entrepreneur of all time - best democratic country of all time - best deserving bracelet winner of all time --- even for things that are supposedly quantifiable like best chess player of all time - look at highest ELO but so many good players do not have a chance to play competitive matches; or best butterfly swimmer based on olympic records etc. Not many ppl will go to trials. In fact I can go trial for something random starting at regional but come on...
I firmly believe that the best poker players exist in those streets very few of us will ever come across. About a year and half ago, I read about this poker game on Chinese dark web, husband of a female streamer and some government officials - it was some crazy high number like 10/20 million USD limit game - the poverty of imagination.
No one will ever find out the story of me getting scammed by the chinese runescape ripoff online scammer back in 2021 - it's so hidden and unless a time machine is invented, how can you ever find out? I have memories but I don't have enough vocab to detail the whole story. Just gotta live with the pain and keep moving forward - same with that ex landlord bitch story in sacramento where she pulled a knife out on me and tried to solicit me to help her kill her exwife and a few gang members in curtis park in downtown sac.
No one will ever find out how I owed well fargo around 4 grand back in the day and I tried to pay collection agency but they won't take it surprisingly!
Real world is so scary - Forrest telling me stories of him getting jailed for giving a black girl a ride home - Lisandro telling me stories of dealings of chinese mob (which reminds me I still haven't read his book) - Yang telling me stories of getting chased out of private games having ppl trying to kill him off for winning....
real world is so scary making me not care about playing well in 80/160.

my personality shifted in summer of 2021 because of the online runescape ripoff scam n my failing of the oral exam.
then i started live poker in summer of 2022 before my oral exam retake at uc davis.
been playing for 3.5 years.
about 1 year in - summer of 2023 - i started mix and got to meet ted forrest playing 40 80 at rw, alan levinson ran the game then.
in january of 2024 ted and i went to la together for lapc and there was also a 1/200 mix going on. we planned to stay there for a week to 10 days. ted continued staying there after while i came back to sac for plo. i had around 20k roll and i brought 10k to la.
the day before we met up in la, he beat crazy mike HU out of around 100 bets and he brought a bunch aria chips with him when he came to la
when we met up at the airport he told me that the goal is to win 35k in 7 days. I was shocked. i hadn't had a 10k month yet let alone a 10k week.
i told him "sure, you will win 40k and i will lose 5k so collectively we will win 35k"
on the first day i got coolered close to the bubble while he final tabled but didn't finish high in a mix tournament for a tiny profit. I was happy for him while he was visibly annoyed. Knowing him now, i can understand his stance - every time i am deep in a tournament he always tells me to after itm, ft, just go for top 3. Do not finish below 3rd.
Anyway, i busted and went to play 1/200 and long story short, with some 20 and 40 LHE plus a little bit of PLO, i banged off 17k and he won 15k in that week.
I got to play Kenny tran's garden's game the night of my flight - johnny chan gave up his seat for me actually. I won crumbs and changed my night flight to the following morning.
Technically the trip is over but what happened next isn't pleasant. I didn't have a room so I planned to go to Ted's new room at commerce to crash but when i got there the 1/2 game was pretty fire so i hopped in and lost 5k in the game then as we changed to chinese and were breaking, johnny world came in and hennigan, me, and an action player played 3 handed badugi and 2-400 limit single draw. i lost another 5....
so i lost more than half of the profit in the past week before my flight back to sac.
The plo game was good in sac but i was not as good of a player then, breakeven - and was most likely the smallest loser in that year in that economy.
Then a year later - in the beginning of this year, i've improved in ways that are ineffable - and that is the real virtue of getting mentored by ted - it was not a specific strategy on a game, or detailed analysis on hand histories (although we have plenty of them), it was the stories of hookers, drugs, wild encounters, crazy life events, that solidified my intangibles and make me become a better player in ways that are not scientifically "provable".
---- this piece World wrote resonated w me and a couple months before that I was actually blocked in text msg by John ---- in some ways, all these contribute positively to me become a better player.
Man, i love these old school players. Some stories may be inappropriate, bizarre; some may even have a touch of fiction - but to those who can appreciate, yum!

with or without backing, I plan to fire $1500 non nlh events which is about 25k in buy-ins. if i get onto daniel's fantasy team, that means i can play the 10ks, retaining 10-20% of myself, with the goal of securing points for the team. average fantasy points is around 60 for $1 players iirc.

there was another one in the past year or so w hennigan but i think alan richardson booked it instead of ted, i wasnt there in person - but it was about a game as well.
i was asked recently to do a 5k prop for weight loss but hell nah i cant do it - i ran the idea by ted and he gave me a detailed breakdown on how i could achieve it...
