Learning PLO

Hello guys,

Another PLO goal/blog thread. I will do my best with the limited time that I have (finishing my PhD), to learn to play PLO.

My goal if possible would be to beat the smallest pool ever. PLO2 zoom at pokerstars.

The last two weeks I just started playing PLO regular and zoom table to figure out a bit the dynamic and what fits best for me. This is my winrate so far. Not good but I will try to improve.

I started with studying some preflop ranges and some post flop spots. My goal is to do some database review and see my leaks.

I will try to post weekly! Stay tuned!

P.S Any tips or suggestions are much welcome and appreciated!!

Hi There,

I've been playing PLO cash for the last 6 months so i'm also a newby but here are my 2 cents.

Why play PLO zoom? The reason why i'm asking is because in zoom the edges wil be smaller (smaller winrate vs reg tables) and the lower winrate wil make it a rake trap.

2. Specially micro stakes: The rake is very inportant in PLO because you see many more flops and will play bigger pots and the rake will have a big impact on your winrate. So looking for sites with low rake or a good rake back program is very important.

You will hear a lot of players saying that micro PLO cash is hard to beat because of the rake. Yes this is true in someway because the rake is high but there is also the positive thing of players being much worse in PLO vs NLH. everybody knows how to play decent in NLH (openings ranges and 3-bet ranges etc.) but in PLO you can find a real fish on all the small stakes.

The main difference between NLH and PLO is this: NLH is a frequentie based game ( meaning that in certain spots for example you should be bluffing 30% of the time and so on). In PLO, the game is much more about your hand equetie, meaning that you should think of your hand strenght and how much equetie you have and then compare it to the hands and the equetie that you think that your opponent will have

Mastering small stakes pot limit omaha is a good book by Fernando "jnandez" Habegger. If you google and look arround you can find the ebook for free.

Thats where i would start.

TIP: Variance in PLO..... be like water, just dont care and laugh when you lose. If you drop allot of buyins in a short time, ask your self, was it really bad luck or did i just played bad. Take a small break and then continue on your journey

Here is some inspiration. from session 130 its only PLO (mostly 25NL and later some 50NL)

Good luck in your journey.

Hi Grinder2000,

Thanks a lot for your useful comments. I was also thinking the same about the zoom tables but my consideration is that I can play more hands compared to regular tables. I will see how it goes maybe I will switch to regular tables later.

Regarding the book I already bought it and wait for it so I can go through the material.

Nice graph btw, keep it up!!

After 11k hands I started doing some hand review and in general checking where my leaks are. Main goal till 20k is to correct these leaks and improve my game. -10 BIs from -24 :P

Still preflop ranges needs adjustments especially with loose players. I am still figuring out the format I like to play. I think with my limited amount of time 2-3 zoom tables is fine for me. Let's see.

One other goal of mine is to learn how to use the HUD more effectively. In the beginning I didn't use HUD but know I see that it helps in my decisions although I don't have much time in fast formats. I think using HUD is way +EV if used correctly.
