Recreational (RNC PLO 2 to PLO 200 in 1 Year)

Hello,

I'm a recreational who have played poker on and off for the last 5 years. Poker is a really fun hobby for me and i love studying the game, however, as i run a few small businesses, i dont really have the time to play and study often.

My condition to myself for playing poker, is if it only takes my time, and not my money as well. I started playing with USD100, ran it up to USD1,500 over 2 years of on and off playing PLO2-PLO10 and some tournaments etc, before tilting it all off in 2 weeks. Which was irritating.

Other than loving the game, im fairly competitive. Seeing players that i've tagged as weak go from PLO 2 to PLO 200 in roughly 2 years made me irritated, which caused me to play higher limits, initial run bad, caused to play bad, the play higher stakes to try and get back etc, resulting in me busting the USD1,500 roll in 2 weeks roughly 2 months ago.

And so i'm back to zero.

For me, the pleasure comes to playing and growing the poker bankroll every step of the way. I'm confident i capable of being a winning player at PLO200 RNC, but i want the pleasure of actually doing it and proving it to myself step by step.

And so, I've decided to deposit USD20 and see if i can get myself from PLO 2 to PLO 200 without any additional deposits within 1 year (timeframe is flexible). To ensure i take the no busting seriously, i will stop playing poker and only focus on my businesses for 1 year, if i bust this USD20.

Cheers

Started at PLO 2, playing sporadically roughly 1 hour per day, this is my results from 16 August to 28 September.

My Bankroll Management is 50 buy ins for the current level, before i can move up, if i lose 2 buy ins at the next level, i will go back down and play until i get 50 buy ins for the current level before going back up again.

Win rates at PLO 2 was roughly EV 35bb/100 over 13k hands before rake.

Decided to shot take PLO 5, and was running really hot, EV was 50bb/100 over 1500 hands before rake.

In general, watching venividi play PLO200 taught me alot, and in general this pool and game matches my playstyle. I dont use solvers, but do buy pirated PLO courses to study (sorry RIO and Upswing) though tbh i've only watched 3-4 videos.

Balance is now USD150, PLO 5 will be my home until i get to USD250

Cheers

1 Month Update

In general, did not manage to play much as i was busy with my ecomm business, but i managed to put in a little bit of volume recently.

RNC PLO 5 and a little PLO10 results.

I mainly played PLO5 RnC. Initially as the results was not as good as my PLO 2 (Pre Rake 30bb/100) ones, i wondered if it was due slight rusty, or me trying out a little new strategy of check raising vs small cbets, or if maybe i was just a little on tilt.

However, as the hands went on, it seems to me, more clearly, that PLO 5 players are quite abit stronger than PLO 2 ones and my edge have dropped down to zero. Unlike PLO 2, they call down more appropriately versus small bets, it takes bigger bets and multiple streets to get them to fold. Its only versus pot size that they seem to be overfolding maybe?

They also seem much more active in attacking checking ranges, and their checking ranges are stronger than those in PLO2.

All in all, no surprise, considering the pool is 50% the size of PLO 2.

Oddly, when playing PLO 10, it basically felt the same as PLO 5, and only at PLO 25, does it feel like there is a jump in difficulty.

I still wasn't really sure and so i spent a few hours playing PLO 2 today, and the results are as follows.

Well, the sample is smaller, but it definitely felt much easier, and like usual, i was just consistently stacking up chips etc etc.

Having said that, as i ran hot as hell, and also hit a jackpot (unfortunately i was not the winner or the loser), the bankroll still increased this month to USD 200. And so im now in a weird situation where im winning PLO 2 at 30bb/100 and only breaking even at PLO5, even with less tables.

And so, im in a bit of a conundrum, do i want to just play PLO 2 recreationally or do i want to start going through the courses i have collected to try and beat PLO5 and PLO10? Well, i have no idea, as this is going to be a very busy month work wise, and im not sure how useful studying with limited playing will be, as i only have the time for 1.

I think ill just delay PLO 5 until i get the bankroll up to USD 250 and decide then.

Wishing you success in achieving your goals. See you at plo200
