Live 1/2 Grind : Bankroll Building Time
Recap of my last session.
Hit the casino in early afternoon. Maybe bad timing, the games weren't so great. Sat in the 2/5 PLO which was really soft, but I only played a couple of hours. Hand one hand where the straddle was one, bunch of limpers I'm in the middle of the pack with AQJ9 hearts but not nut hearts. Straddler raises pot and I end up folding. I wasn't looking for any super high variance spots. I managed to chip up with two small pots. One I raise JJK4 ds pre and flop A44. I cbet really small, just under 1/3rd pot and get two callers. We check it down and they both show Ax and MHIG. That was the hand that kept me in the game for a while. I also open with AQJ4 ds and flop just nut flush draw on king high flop. Everyone checks. Turn is an ace. I decide to semi bluff despite being multiway. I've got NFD + gutty, also TPTK, and this is a scary card. Whale calls. River completes a low straight, board is now AK764. I have just AQ. It goes check check and villain has 7552. So I win. Then I three bet ok aces vs straddle, call, pot raise. I was able to get in almost 1/3rd of my stack. We GII in on an 8 high flop I'm vs just top pair + 3 kickers, so very mild favourite. We run it twice and chop. But kind of sickening to flip for $500 given how small my bankroll is, so I quit almost immediately after.
I table hop between 1/1 and 1/2 looking for a good game. Nothing really exciting going on. Finally I get on a good table and I go on a +200 bb heater. A key hand was I overlimp QJ on the button we see a flop five way. Flop is QJ2. Top two. $6 in the pot, there is a lead for $2, call call I make it $15. Villain calls. Turn is a 3, total brick, he checks, I bet $30 with an eye to getting it all in on the river. River is a ten. Villain now donks out for $20. He has $60 total. The flop was rainbow, so I don't really see how he could have played 98/Ak/K9 this way. QJT32 is the board. No flush possible. I jam, villain calls with just Q7 and I get the full double. Then I pick up some big pairs and win some small pots, just chipping up. I flop a set of nines after speculating with a 7 bb call pre four way. It was a nice situation to stack someone, but unfortunately after the flop came T96 two tone and it went small bet call, I put in a massive raise and took down the pot. Not the sort of board you want to slowplay on in my opinion - especially not small (1/3rd or even 1/4th) sizing.
Eventually the game becomes pretty mediocre so I quit.

A couple more hands.
KJT9 rainbow in PLO. $15, call, I call. Whale behind me calls.
Flop AQ8 with two clubs. Giving me a full wrap. PFR pots ($60), other guy calls. I only start with $250.
Actually only 9 non nut outs here. Getting 3:1 BUT I might be chopping on some of my outs. And I might get free rolled even if I hit. I decide to fold. Also I should fold pre.
65s in 1/2. Straddled pot, I complete BB, 5 to flop for $4 each. $20 in the pot.
Flop 643 with two clubs. I have spades. I bet $10, get raised to $21, and someone calls the $21. No idea wtf is going on here but 7:1 I decide to peel.
Turn 4, checks around.
River K, checks around.
My six is good. Ok, that was a weird one.
Open to $6, call, I make it $32 with AK from the blinds. Call, call. wtf!
Flop AJJ two tone. I wasn't that deep so the play from this point was pretty automatic. I c-bet 40%, villain calls. Turn K, I jam for not much more, villain calls. He has AK also and we chop chop.
Anyway + $200 to $300 on the session. Decent.
Just finished a 12 hour session. Just pure positive variance almost the whole way through. When I did lose a pot it was small. Pretty remarkable.
First I sit 1/2 while on the list for 1/1. The game looked soft so I bought in deep. I straddled and defend KJo 6 way vs 3x open. $90 in the pot. FLOP AQTsss. I have Js. Checked around. turn brick, I bet $55 and take it down. Also lost $24 trying to set mine multiway. Anyway I leave for 1/1 pretty quick.
Ok this hand was funny. I have AQo. Villain on my right, German gentleman, nice guy makes it $7. I try to call, and misclick minraise. He jams for like $45. I call and he has AJo. Ship it.
So at the $1/$1 Straddled, call, call, I make it $10 with AA and TID.
Flop a set and get two small bets in.
AQ I cbet 822 flop three way for like half pot one caller. Turn 9 river x and we both check down. Villain had j9hh for overs and backdoors on the flop, turned top pair.
T8ss I make a low frequency mp/lp open and check give up 3 way on the Kxx cc flop where I have nothing but a single spade to go on.
AK I iso to $4 over an EP limper, three callers then blind ships for $20. I four bet to $65. Villain has AT and I hold, a nice little spot getting almost 2:1 on my money as a big fav.
At this point I actually racked up and tried to leave, but I couldn't get a car. So I rejoined after walking around a bit. Game improved significantly as a LAG on my immediate left transferred to another table. We weren't clashing or anything but it was a disquieting game condition.
K9cc 5 to flop. Flop is KJ6$5 I bet $2.5 call call. Turn is 5c giving me fd, I check and call $4 (still 3 way). River is Ac giving me nuts I bet $14 and two callers.
TT, raise pre 3 way. Flop T62 rainbow, I cbet 60% get called. Turn K, villain donks 30%, I make a pot sized raise, he jams and I am already 100% vs AK. That was a big one.
That's all I remember right now, might post some more hands if they come to me.
+300 bb roughly. pretty great session.
not enough sleep. hit the casino around 4 pm. ate a big meal. not much was really happening at the tables. One hand there is a limper, I iso w/ KK and they call. Flop comes T65, they donk small, I raise, they jam all in for 30 bb. I snap. Board runs out heart, heart and I make a four card flush vs flopped set of sixes. So that was sweet. Small pot tho. Hit the bars and come back around 2 am. Play 1/1, only 1 hand really worth writing about.
I have KQ and iso a limper to $4. 4 to the flop. Flop is JJT w/ two hearts. Checks around to last to act, he stabs, call, I call.
Turn Kh. Gives me KhQhJhTh to go with kings up. Check, check, last to act bets pretty small, call call.
River brick heart. Check, check, last to act bets $10. I call. Other guy calls.
Flop bettor had 52 and made a 5 high flush. Other guy had 77 and made 7 high flush. My queen high flush takes it. Was actually a decent pot even though it was small betting because it was three way all the way to showdown.
1/1 breaks. I sit 1/2. Game looks really good. I keep adding on. 1/2 has a 300 bb max where I play. I pick up AK, there is an open to $6, I make it $20, call call. Flop 832. Check, I cbet small like $24. Call. fold. Turn J check check. River J check check. I lose to 36o that cold called pre!
So I fold for a while. Then I make some top pair type hands and win some small pots but I am chipping up. Eventually I pick up JJ and three bet a $5 open to $16. Three to the flop $50 flop is Ts6s7s I have Js.
Buddy donks $40! other buddy calls. I'm super confused but call also. Both players were pretty loose.
Turn J! gives me top set + j hi flush draw. First guy bets $100, almost all in. Second guy calls. I jam for like $350 on top. Bettor folds with only like $60 behind. Other guy thinks it over, at first I'm not sure if he is tanking with a hand that beats me or what. But no he has JT and is stone dead. Unfortunately he folds. But it was still a huge hand, +$200 on the turn action alone.
Game breaks not long after that. I join a new table. Only noteworth hand is I flop 89 on T86 3 way limped pot. I fire 2 bb. Call fold. Turn J, I c/c 5 bb. River 8 I c/c 15 bb and villain had 93 . I was BB too so he limped it.
Anyway, all in all a great day, mostly just that one hand with JJ.
Got rekt pretty hard. Mostly from this hand playing 1/2.
I limp UTG with AK, iso to $6, call, call, call, folds to me I make it $40, fold, fold, buddy jams for $300, I snap. He has 42s and flops a pair and holds.
Earlier I also lost $100 with KQ after I call a three bet and c/jam on Kxx with three diamonds flop. I lose vs AxAd.
Did win one decent hand before I left, I peel a 7x open from the guy who stacked off pre with 42s with KTs. The other guy - who I actually have some history with, pretty wild player - also called. Flop came J97dd and they both check to me. I actually felt strangely like my hand was huge in this situation vs their checking ranges. I bet $30 they both call. Qd comes on the turn, I am still very confident in my hand as I did not feel like they were check calling many flush draws. I bet $70, fold, and then the preflop raiser who overcalled the flop tank folded AQ. Definitely a fold when I barrel turn into two players, but also a very ridiculous flop peel on this board texture.
The 1/2 game was really, really juicy but losing that hands vs 42s just kind of crippled me emotionally. I played 1/1 for a bit but the game was really slow and the dealers were just awful so I bounced. Played two hands of blackjack at $20 min on the way out, won 5 bets in the first two hands and quit. Stuck maybe $200 to $300.
Small win last night. Lost 40 bb at 1/1 on my first hand with AK vs AA. Villain open 3x, I three bet to 10x, he just calls. Flop is Q72 w/ two diamonds. I have hearts. One heart. I decide to cbet full pot he has only 28 bb left anyway. He jams (8 bb more at this point) and I call. He has AA and we do not improve despite turning the juicy ten of hearts. Same guy got me like an hour later by limp calling 55 after I raise vs the field with AQ and then again he was really short so I cbet put him all in on 643 and he snaps.
Other than those two hands I ran really good. Had KK and flopped top set in a four way pot. Twice. Same three callers, same 6x raise. First time I cbet full pot $24 and take it down. Second time I cbet $20 and get a caller. Turn paired the middle card giving me the nut full. I bet $20 again but this time villain folds. But yah it was just a really, really good table. Eventually the game broke so I went home. +80 bb. whatever I'll take it.
