gibsons grind..
Going to be accountable here.
I play anything 5/10 or less live, PLO or NLH, no tourneys and will keep results updated here.
i use monkersolver to study and will post spots here aswell.
I was playing alot of live and online about 4 years ago but took my bankroll and started a business. 4 years later i now have that bankroll back and looking to start getting back at it.
First session was 12/19- played 2/5 PLO for awhile, nothing interesting, up about 2k and got invited to play 5-card Hi only with a group of younger asian gentlemen and a few others from the 2/5 i was playing.
it was exactly how you would think, wild. lol only real notable hand was a bomb pot, i wake up with A997x:
top board : 442
bottom board: 774
checks through
turn top is 9, bottom is K
one psb of 200, 2 callers to me otb i call
river:
top board : 4429K
bottom : 774KA
x-AI for 1k eff, i call and fold behind me, he says "Nut-Nut" and rolls over KKA2x.
Pretty gross
won a few pots here and there, game broke after 2 players got called up to the 10/25 PLO game so i went back to 2/5 PLO. left around 230am when that game broke. left +1800-ish
Second session was 12/21
sat 1/3 with my name on list for 2/5 NLH, 1k Mix ( 2/5 NLH, 1/2 PLO)
only real notable hand was i open from CO with 99 ( straddle on) to 20, SB calls, BB sqz to 50 ( seems like a tag but not a good one), straddler cold calls ( action player for sure, everyone is head hunting him) i 4b to 125 with position, SB calls, BB folds and straddle calls.
we are about 700 eff ( 500 max game)
742ddx - ( pot is about 410ish)
sb check, straddler jams, i call, sb folds. runout 8x, Ky
straddle shows 88.
there was another where i call a 3b IP with 44, flop T42cc, Kx turn and villain says " i have KQcc be careful" so i jam over his turn bet to which he snap called and river bricked.
i ended up leaving -1600 ish
third session was 12/22
sat 1/3 with my name on list for same 2/5 NL and 1k mix.
nothing notable, no big hands, just trading small pots with weak opps.
2/5 opens.
sit 2/5 finally and nothing crazy or interesting, got AA vs KK allin pre and held for a full stack ( 1k) made some tight folds pre vs sqz/3b while i sus'd out the table as i havent played in awhile but the way they were conversing they definitely know each other. Seems like a very good game though. I posted one of the hands in the Live NLH cash forum.
all in all left +980 ish
Ran a new sim as the cap for 2/5 has changed since i was playing regularly so we are alot deeper. When i was reg playing it was 800 max at 2/5, now its 1k in one room and 1200 in another. which mean 2-3k eff. stack hands are going to be normal now. I need to brush up on my deepstack knowledge. Next session will be Jan 3rd or 4th most likely. until then, just study monker.
overall result = +1180 over about 27-29 hrs.
I will track on poker bankroll tracker from here on out, i couldnt login for some reason and it wasnt working. kept force closing so these are not included but will from now on.

GLGL. What business did you use your original roll for? How long did it last? Anything you wish you could tell yourself now at that transition point in your life? Any advice for poker players perhaps looking to put their roll into opening a business?
Construction, i have been in it my whole life but decided to go out on my own. during that 4 year period i got my contractors license, took classes on accounting and setting up a business etc. The business is still open and doing very well. I am just able to "work" less now as i have delegated some of my responsibilities so i have time to play again.
Stay the course, great sailors aren't made on calm days.
That would be my advice to anyone looking to start a business.
Also the stigma of "you make your own hours" is bullshit. For 4 years i work 7 days a week, ( although sometimes i will have a monday off by sheer luck and a weds afternoon but have to do estimates on saturday and sunday, meet customers on the weekends to discuss job progress etc)
Be ready to workkk, you have to hungry. starving. Not literal but metaphorical, You can want nothing else. i was officially open for 13 months with zero income/sales. I didnt sell a single job, no one wanted to test the waters with " the new guy" even though i have never done anything else my entire life. 13 months in though, someone took a chance on me and i have never looked back.
Education is important, not in the college degree sense as much as just a general knowledge of how a business works. I have been in construction my entire life and i know about the work side, its what i did for 21 years before i started my own. The business side on the other hand, i had no idea about. So i took some classes online, decided to not use quickbooks or another 3rd party software and i used spreadsheets. libreoffice for free. i learned how to track the money, job costs, etc.
Going from employee to managing sub-contractors, billings and customers for multiple jobs was very tough. i still struggle some now when the heat is really on to close out jobs but i wouldnt have it any other way.
If you have a bankroll, an actual bankroll ( >$10, 000) you need to get the ball rolling on some sort of service industry business. The $$ it costs to learn and setup will return 10 fold. It took me 4 years to get my bankroll back and it will continue to give back for many more years to come without having to grind it out at the tables.
