PLO grindblog 2026

Hi there,

After reading some other PLO threads i felt really the need to start my own blog and journey. I really need the accountability and to see the progress.

I will share some background information:
41 years old. have a girlfriend and a little boy of 1 year old so grinding time is limited. Have a steady regular job so i grind for the fun and the extra money on the side.

I play poker since 2008 but i'm ot really good. I love the game so i have that going for me haha.
Played mostley cashgames NLH in the beginning 10/25/50nl online and then i switched to tournaments.
Now with the girlfriend and little kid mtt's are out of the question. Last year i discoverd PLO and i've been playing that ever since.

Goals:
- have fun while playing and trying to play more volume
- win consistend money
- Maybe reach 50PLO one day.

Results last year ($ = €) (started with PLO from session 115):

This year things are not going my way at all. I'm totally lost and thats why i'm starting this thread. Hoping it will keep me and my mind on the grind.
And more so. playing good and keep things under controll.

I will post an graph of 2026 next post but its something like 200€ down this year. its not the money that i'm down but its about how bad i'm playing.

So come with me on this journey and follow my progress. i will try to post hands from now and then and ask questions.

Greetings

How was your start of this year?

Do you play 4c plo? GL

Hi there,

The start of the year has been really hard. I just moved during the christmass holidays to a new house with my girlfriend and our little boy. So many things to do and you just have to get used to the new house life and how grinding fits in all this.

The volume and more important my mindset have not been great. The goals i had at the beginning of this year are no more. I just want to grind and slowly grind my way up to decent grinding year.

On the possitive note: I'm up this year so i cant complaine to much.

Januari : + € 46.23
Februari : - € 109.98
This month i'm up: € 265.43

Graph for this year (started with a 500€ bankroll)

This is how i keep track of my sessions (sessions from march only):

Date
what game
Buyin
Session duration in minutes
Start amount bankroll
End amount bankroll
Profit/loss
Total bankroll (data for the graph)
Remarks about what session evening, morning and sometimes some more info about the session it self.

I will update this treath more often.

greetings

I have a question for you. How have you maintained your love for poker despite being "not really good" as you've said. What is your mindset behind that. I actually have been running into the opposite issue where I play the game very well but when things don't go my way for a certain stretch I get entitlement tilt or if I do run really good for awhile I get bored with it. I'm curious the way you think about a game you've been playing for many years that you seemingly have never really had your way with but has kept you engaged wo getting frustrated enough to quit(maybe you have for certain amounts of time idk)

If you want to post your stats by position I'm gonna guess you're playing too loose from certain spots esp for the stakes/rake involved. Part of becoming really good at poker is creating a system of play that works for you and since generally speaking there isn't a huge amount of room to deviate from that while still crushing the games it can take some of the fun out of the game. You're just executing on the right plays and have little to no room to take any actions outside that.

I'm not 100% sure if it's totally free for everyone who has an account but I know my old account on JNandez's Mastermind allows me to do 100bb PF only spots for 6m for free. If you want to see deeper stacks or check postflop spots etc you have to upgrade your account but you could try signing up there and if you can get the 100bb PF GTO sims for free you have more than enough info there to get started in crushing the games

Hi there,

I'm not really talented at poker that is all. I've been playing since 2007 or something and had only one losing year since so i'm not that terrible i guess. After playing for many years i realised a long time ago that i dont have the poker talent to make it to high stakes so thats why i'm saying i'm not really good at poker.

I just like the mental challange of playing and battleling with other people. And i like how i can still beat the game and make some money on the side with a game that i've loved for so many years. look at my sexy graph from 2025 in the opening post. That is reason enough for me, i just like to build a beautiful graph 😀. I've bought a (second hand) car with the money that i made last year so i'm happy.

Succes is very different per person. You sound young so reaching high stakes maybe for you. For me poker succes means that i'm making some money on the side and have fun. For me 2k+ a year is a succes, for someone else it means making 100k a year.

I've seen a classmate like 15/20 years ago and he had talent ( i told him back then that if he played it right he could be a pro, 2 years later he went pro and has been for the last 15 years). when you see talent playing poker and he is crushing the games like i never will then you have to realise that you are a maybe a winning player but not on the same level as he is and never will. I can study poker all my life and sure maybe i will move up a stake or two but i will never crush high stakes. And this is really important in poker. maybe even the most important thing. You need to know your skill level so that you play in games that you are beating so you are making money.

To be honest, saying that you are good at poker is not something i would do. what is good at poker? if you make 1k a month while living in brazill with low living cost makes you a pro but that doesnt mean you are good at poker.

i consider guys good at poker when they play:
- MTT 50$ and up (and with huge volume)
- Cash: 500 nlh or PLO and up

And then ofcourse be a consistend winner.

I have the same struggles as you with running good, bad and everything in between.
My solution is to stop playing and just watch poker, read books etc. for a week or so just till you feel the urge to play again. You want to play to have fun and be able to play the best game that you can and i've noticed that this will go hand in hand alot of the times.

When you have the feeling that you are playing for the money then you should stop and reset your mind. Thats what i do.

Greetings
