Hey everyone,

I've been working on a poker desktop app called ApexTell for a while now and it's finally in open beta. Figured I'd share it here since I built it to solve a problem I had myself — juggling 4-5 different poker tools.

What it does:

The core idea is everything in one app. HUD, tracker, solver, trainer, AI coach — no more alt-tabbing between tools or paying for separate subscriptions.

Some of the stuff I'm most proud of:

- GTO Trainer — it deals you random spots and you play against GTO-approximate strategies. Uses neural network models for instant feedback (~2ms response), or you can switch to exact CFR+ solving. It tracks your accuracy over time so you can see where your game is actually improving.
- AI Coach — this one's my favorite. It's a local LLM (Llama 3.2 3B) with a RAG system over 3,500+ poker theory chunks. You can ask it anything about theory, and it actually understands context. The cool part: you can launch it directly from the Hand Replayer with the full hand context pre-loaded, so you can go "what should I have done on the river here?" and it already knows the action, positions, stack sizes, everything.
- Behavioral Analysis Engine — 45 rules that automatically classify players into types (NIT, TAG, LAG, FISH, WHALE, etc.) with postflop style indicators. Not just a simple VPIP/PFR label — it generates actual scouting reports with preflop tendencies, postflop patterns, and exploitable leaks.
- HUD Overlay — real-time color-coded stats on your poker client, positional breakdowns, in-HUD notes, draggable layout. Supports up to 24 tables simultaneously. Works with PokerStars, 888, WPN, Winamax, iPoker, and Chico out of the box (PartyPoker and Unibet stats-only per their ToS).
- Embedded GTO Solver — postflop CFR+ engine with configurable bet sizing trees and a strategy browser. Not a cloud lookup — it actually solves on your machine.

And that's not even all of it — there's also a full stats browser with 23+ tracked stats and deep filtering, a leak detector that ranks your biggest leaks by BB/100 impact, an equity calculator (hand vs. hand, hand vs. range, range vs. range), session graphs with EV-adjusted lines, a hand tagging system, auto-notes rule builder, and more. You can check out the full feature list at https://apextell.net/features.

The local-first thing:

Everything runs on your machine. The AI coach runs offline, your hand histories stay local, your stats never leave your computer. No cloud uploads, no accounts needed for the analysis tools. I built it this way because I personally didn't want my hand data sitting on someone else's server.

It's free right now (+ a Founders Pack):

The app is in open beta — full access to every feature, no paywall, no time limit. Once it goes live it'll be subscription-based, but during the beta I'm offering a Founders Pack — a one-time purchase that gives you lifetime access to everything, forever. That deal goes away once the beta ends, so if you end up liking the app it's worth a look.

But zero pressure — you can use the full app completely free right now. I genuinely just want people to try it and tell me what's broken or what's missing. If you play online cash games or tournaments, I'd love for you to rip it apart.

You can grab it at https://apextell.net — Windows and Linux today, macOS coming soon.

Bug reports, feature requests, honest "this sucks because X" feedback — all welcome. Thanks for reading.

EDIT: Pushing a hotfix for installer at the moment

I have hotfixed and implemented a lot of the other features I have been working on and the app feels more complete now. In total the app has about 20+ features now. Since I can't edit the original post, here is a full list:

=== The Big Ones ===

AI Coach
An embedded LLM trained on 3,457 poker theory chunks. Ask it anything — "should I 3-bet A5s from the SB vs a CO open at 100bb?" — and get instant, context-aware answers. Runs 100% locally on your machine. Nothing is sent to any server. Ever.

GTO Trainer
Drill any postflop spot with instant feedback from a trained ML neural network (~2ms response) or switch to exact CFR+ solving for precision. Every drill gets a verdict (Best / Acceptable / Mistake), and your accuracy is tracked over time so you can see where you're actually improving.

GTO Solver
Full postflop CFR+ solver built directly into the app. Custom bet sizing trees, node locking for exploitative analysis, strategy grids showing action frequencies for every combo, and parallel processing so solves finish fast. No external software needed, no uploads, no waiting.

Hand Replayer & GTO Review
Visual hand replayer with full graphical table, playback controls, speed settings, and hand tagging (bluff, cooler, hero call, etc.). The built-in GTO review scores every action you took against the solver's recommendation — you get an accuracy percentage and EV difference per decision, so you know exactly where you're leaving money on the table.

AI-Powered Player Analysis
A 45-rule behavioral engine that generates scouting reports on any opponent. It detects leaks across preflop tendencies, postflop patterns, and exploitable habits — then ranks them by severity and estimates the BB/100 impact of each leak. Gives you concrete exploitation suggestions, not just raw numbers.

Smart HUD Overlay
Real-time transparent overlay on your poker client with color-coded stats for every opponent. What makes it different:
- Positional stat panels (different stats for EP vs MP vs LP vs Blinds)
- Stack-depth awareness (adapts when opponents are short-stacked vs deep)
- Click any stat for drill-down popups with positional breakdowns and sample sizes
- Player color markers auto-classify opponents (Fish, Nit, TAG, LAG, etc.)
- Per-site compliance toggles so you stay within each site's ToS

=== Strategy & Analysis Tools ===

Preflop Charts — 94 GTO-approximate charts for cash game (6-max and 9-max, 100bb/50bb) and tournament play (30bb/20bb/15bb/10bb push-fold). RFI, vs Open, vs 3-Bet, Blind Defense, Squeeze, Cold Call. Cash/Tournament toggle to switch contexts.

Range Explorer — Interactive 13x13 hand grid with OOP and IP ranges displayed side by side. Solve any spot with the neural network for instant results or CFR+ for exact solutions.

Equity Calculator — Monte Carlo equity simulation with range input via the 13x13 grid or text notation, board picker, and auto-fill from the Hand Replayer.

ICM Calculator — Malmuth-Harville ICM analysis with bubble factors, risk premiums, and position probabilities. Configurable payout structures for any tournament format.

Variance Simulator — Enter your win rate and volume, get confidence intervals, downswing probability, bankroll requirements, and risk of ruin. Visualized with charts.

=== Tracking & Session Tools ===

Stats Browser — 20+ stats (VPIP, PFR, 3-Bet, C-Bet, WTSD, W$SD, AF, etc.) color-coded relative to optimal ranges. Advanced filtering by date, stakes, position, and saved presets.

Live Session Dashboard — Real-time session view with running P&L, per-table breakdown, recent hands feed, and color-coded stat deltas showing how your session compares to your overall stats.

Profit Charts & Graphs — Six graph types: cumulative P&L, EV-adjusted, showdown vs non-showdown, by position, by stakes, and tournament results. Full date and stake filtering.

Bankroll Management — Session P&L auto-populated from imported hands. Bankroll charts, risk of ruin calculations, goals, and a full transaction log.

Pool Analysis — Aggregate stats across all opponents you've played. Comparison tables, stat histograms, and pool-level filtering to understand your player pool.

Player Notes — Free-form notes per player, visible in HUD popups and the Stats Browser. Includes an auto-notes engine with 12 configurable rules that tag tendencies automatically.

Leak Detector — Analyzes your own stats to find leaks in your game. Identifies where you deviate from optimal and ranks issues by impact.

=== Platform ===

Multi-Site Support — PokerStars, PartyPoker, 888poker, WPN, iPoker, Winamax, Unibet, and Chico. Auto-import with file watcher, deduplication, and real-time processing.

9 Player Type Classifications — NIT, ROCK, TAG, LAG, MANIAC, STATION, FISH, WHALE — with postflop style indicators (/P, /A, /B, /S).

Progression System — XP, 250 levels with 15 ranks (Fish to Legend), daily/weekly quests, 50+ badges, and achievements. Not critical for gameplay but keeps studying engaging.

=== Tech Details for the Curious ===

- Built with Tauri (Rust backend + React frontend) — fast, lightweight, no Electron bloat
- AI Coach runs fully offline using an embedded GGUF model — zero data leaves your machine
- GTO Trainer uses a custom neural network trained on solver outputs for ~2ms feedback
- The CFR+ solver runs with parallel processing and tracks exploitability in real-time
- All hand data stored locally in SQLite — your data stays yours
- Auto-updater built in for seamless updates

I am still pushing updates daily at the moment and would appreciate more feedback and bug reports. Especially parsing hand histories from different sites is a bit problematic and I am looking for people to assist with that.

ApexTell update — v0.6.0 + v0.6.1 are out (looking for more testers)

Last two releases dropped a fair amount of stuff so I figured I'd round it up:

New features:

  • Leak Detector — finds actual patterns across streets (fit-or-fold, passive preflop + aggro postflop, positional weaknesses), not just a wall of stats
  • GTO Trainer with preset spots (BTN vs BB, CO vs BTN, tournament stack depths) and a new preflop drill mode
  • Bankroll dashboard got a full rewrite. Per-stake breakdown, Kelly sizing gauge, time-of-day heatmap, rakeback tracking, CSV export
  • 15 new street-by-street stats — flop/turn/river c-bet, check-raise, donk, probe, barrel freq, etc.
  • CFR solver is now ~7.8x faster than v0.5, with save/load and node locking
  • AI Coach references actual GTO predictions on the spot you're reviewing instead of giving generic advice
  • Rolling BB/100 graph, session goals with progress bars, solver exploitability convergence chart

Fixes / polish:

  • HUD overlay crashes (deadlocks/race conditions when tables closed) fixed
  • Faster startup, no more white flash on launch
  • Variance simulator can now pull your actual win rate + SD from your hand history

Looking for more testers. If you put in any kind of decent volume on PokerStars and want to try it, beta keys are free, no card required. What I really need is feedback on:

  • HUD layout / readability while you're actually playing
  • Stat accuracy vs whatever you currently use
  • Anything that breaks or feels off

Happy to answer questions in the thread.
