Trump is definitely a stupid person. For ironclad proof, open your ears and listen to anything he ever says. He also speaks to and inspires a huge swath of our population, most of whom are also stupid, and not highly activated by previous Republicans. This includes a notable contingent of fascist Pepe blackpilled types who mostly never previously voted. Is he conning them, or largely simply saying whatever is rattling around in his McBrain and Republicans love it regardless as it "owns the libs"? I think it's the latter by a huge margin.

Now, he is ALSO a conman, but not some "elite-level" one, much more of a petty one with little imagination; that's why, despite being POTUS, he was still pulling his same penny-ante cons and corruption, like charging a 1000% rate for Secret Service and their families to stay at Trump properties, putting his stepson in charge of Middle East peace, etc.

He'll definitely pretend to care about certain things to rile up the rubes, like "Lock her up!", but that's standard politicking.
