The "LOLCANADA" thread...again
So what's new?
I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet...i'd be shocked if they lost the election now.
Just shows just how incompetent Conservatives are.
Again find me any scientist or government that said they aim in 25 years to only have solar and wind as energy sources while rejecting/ banning all fossil fuel .
Good luck ….
Beside, Oil is here to stay since it s a primary source for many materials beside being used as fuel.
So I dunno why u get so frustrated on that point as well shrug.
Lets be honest we will never get there. Canada with a radical PM and Environment minister have not hit one goal yet. Governments never last as long as their plans all we can do is see how much they have had an effect in the 8 years the Liberals have been in power. They have had little to no effect and the supreme court has ruled against them twice / All they have done is increased the cost of living
The USA has had a record year for Oil Production . Coal has never been in such a high demand and t
Necessity is the mother of invention …..
We Will get there since human always did before .
Nice to see how very poor your confidence are in human being .
Maybe you have a slightly hidden depression , depending so much on depressing right fake news narrative ..

Well if I did suffer from depression I wouldn’t take your comment as insult and if I didn’t I wouldn’t take it as insult either or demand that you be suspended or banned .
I do have little faith in humanity as for many greed motivates the action .
Actually the left news tries to depress us more with their climate message as does Justin and his radical environment minister
Minus 50 at YEG International without windchill
Ahaha read again wasn’t an insult .

Actually it was a thoughtful question trying to explain your massive change in posting , answered and such negativity since covid toward the « left » which actually every ring to be left with you disregarding totally the huge spectrum of the center in politics ….
A depression does that and keep getting targeted by massive misinformation and lies could do that ….
But hey sorry if u feel this easy .
Me Im highly positive on what green energy and the « center left » and « Center right » can accomplish shrug .
The only message from far right polievre trump etc .
Everything is bad , everyone against us , surrounded by ennemies and lies lol..
Yeah I would feel depress too …
MASSIVE taxes on fossil fuels paying for MASSIVE subsidies for green power including nuclear.
Lol! You've praised Germany for their energy polices and now you're praising Nuclear after billions have been wasted on solar/wind.
Nuclear doesn't need funding. There are companies lining up to build nuclear plants, it's a regulatory/opposition road blocks issue.

You are 100% correct I have shifted parties but I do not believe I have shifted my beliefs
I was originally a conservative that got frustrated with Harper but didn’t like the other parties so I voted Green .
Than along came along a young Justin Trudeau full of promises sounding different than any politician. I was a fan of Obama and a young Gavin Newsom and disspised Trump watched CNN and MSNBC
Well a bunch of things happened Justin Trudeau was a big fraud and I believed under Trump the economy would crash , he would get us into foolish wars and destroy the stock market . Sadly none of those happened . I have seen Justin Trudeau destroy this country and divide it and saw Joe Biden do the same .
So now I am a mentally stable conservative and I would never say your mentally unstable or Uke is for the parties they support . It’s called democracy and I understand why folks vote for a corrupt Donald Trump over Joe Biden

lol what is this imagined hypocrisy you’ve concocted? I think Germany made a mistake moving away from nuclear. And I think we should have more wind/solar/etc and nuclear. So no contradiction.

Crazy, right? It's almost like there are downsides with nuclear or something!
Nuclear is probably a good option in some places, but it's not without its problems, so it's perfectly understandable why solar and wind would still be viable options. If money were unlimited, solar and wind would be almost all we need once batteries are viable to make it work for 24/7 availability on the full power grid But it's not, and so nuclear is likely going to be needed as well. But pretending that anything non-nuclear is just a waste of money is silly.

Every power source has its problems including solar and wind . Alberta has some huge wind farms in the Pincher Creek region . I think a compliment of all sources is were we are heading we will never see natural gas as a source of heat disappear . It’s clean and we have a ton of it

I can't think of any problems with solar and wind outside of the two I acknowledged - cost, and 24/7/365 availability, which possibly could be handled with money as well (batteries or other energy storage solutions). The problem with nuclear can't be fixed with any amount of money AFAIK.
I'm not suggesting nuclear can't be part of the solution, but the less we need to do, the better IMO.

As for wind you have to add in
It is a threat to wildlife, especially birds, that may be killed by wind turbines
It creates low-level noise and visual pollution, which can affect the nearby residents and the landscape.
High initial cost and limited areas it can be placed
As for Solar
Made in China
Morally as many components are made from slave labor and child labor
minerals needed are mined and create their own environmental problems
Solar fields are ugly
Battery storage is an issue but with great minds in the sector hopefully we can make progress on the storage
Folks like Uke do not want to talk about the moral questions of slave and child labor or destroying the environment in other countries. They remind me of women with cobflict diamonds you tell them a child lost his arms to get your diamond and their response is one or two arms

Sounds like something Melanie Trump would say about the corncob wars.

My understanding is that the bird deaths is a small fraction of bird deaths by house cats, power lines, and other factors.
But regardless, not even in the same universe as a nuclear meltdown.

Sure, and the same can be said about the resources required for batteries - serious problems that need to be solved. But they actually could be. And I would expect nuclear power plants share some of these problems with all the resources and components needed, perhaps to a smaller extent. Just like your points about noise and visual pollution - nuclear power plants aren't exactly part of a pristine landscape.
Nuclear meltdown is a risk that at least today, has no solution. And the consequences are potentially massive. Doesn't mean we shouldn't ever build a nuclear power plant, but they certainly shouldn't be our first choice.

Let’s be realistic the chances of a nuclear reactor being built in Canada are slim . I know a few provinces are looking at those smaller nuclear reactors but good luck with getting the projects approved. You will have environmental reviews and court challenges galore

Fwiw u seem to think uranium mining isn’t that dangerous or can created big environmental issue too .
And that a nuclear Plant suppose to be beautiful ?
Fine but I just find strange sometimes u enumerate stuff about solar/wind being negative while what u enumerated ends up being the same for all energy sources…
Is there like some specific real big issues about solar/wind that it isn’t represented in other energy sources that makes u have such a negative sentiments towards it ?
But regardless, not even in the same universe as a nuclear meltdown.

How many people died from the most recent nuclear meltdown? Nuclear is actually the safest form of energy production. But because stupid people like yourself who don't know anything, fear monger and post stupid pictures it will never be built on a large enough scale.
I think one has been tied to cancer, and varying numbers caused by the evacuation - I've seen 30-50 at the bottom end, and upwards of 1,000 at the top end. I suspect the lower end is more likely.
Interesting. I'm sure you're not going to suggest there's a lot of risk to people from solar or wind once it's installed, unless there's something I'm missing, so it must be related to the production and/or installation. Where are the risks coming from?
But because stupid people like yourself who don't know anything, fear monger and post stupid pictures it will never be built on a large enough scale.
Nice.
Not sure where you get "fear monger" from since I think I've been pretty measured about my criticism of nuclear, and have suggested that nuclear will need to be used. As for "stupid" and "don't know anything", well, that's just like uh, your opinion, man.

There is a great series called Chernobyl.
U should watch it , it’s a great one .

« On March 11, Ukraine claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin had "ordered the preparation of a terrorist attack" on the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The main electric supply to the plant was cut off earlier that week, with Ukrainian authorities blaming Russia's invading forces for the blackout and warning that it could lead to "nuclear discharge." »
« The evacuation of 47,000 inhabitants of Pripyat, in 1,200 buses and 200 trucks, only took a few hours. Locals believed they would be returning several days later. Instead, it became a ghost town. »

« How Long Will It Take For Ground Radiation To Break Down At Chernobyl?
On average, the response to when Chernobyl and, by extension, Pripyat will be habitable again is about 20,000 years. That sounds like an extraordinary number until it's broken down scientifically: the radioactivity that penetrated the ground - and everywhere within a 1,000-mile radius - operates differently than other types of nuclear radiation. »
Seem to me just 1 nuclear reactor
( far less then an entire nuclear facility)
creating all that still 40 years later almost
