Tbh from what I read he is actually more right than you are on the carbon tax effects on Canadian society (yes I know my opinion is irrelevant as I am not Canadian).

But point is ALL efforts to reduce emissions are objectively useless for Canadians EVEN if you believe climate change to be a great threat to Canadian society (and if you do, you are wrong, deeply so).

But tbh the carbon tax from what I read is just a normal messed up tax like many others are, not special, ok let's get rid of it but the main course is to explicitly stop all attempts at reducing emissions as absolute folly

This is a weird post. I’ve noted that Canada has a small but disproportionate portion of global emissions many times and argued that we have a proportional moral responsibility to do our part. Nobody is “not admitting” that Canada can’t do it alone - obviously not. But we do have a responsibility to do our part. You’ve even previously agreed with me on that!

I know you won't answer, yet the idea is that "moral responsibility" can be disagreed upon, and if you do, there is nothing left.

you are literally saying Canadians should sacrifice themselves for non Canadians for decades *even if it's objectively true that doing so won't improve the quality of life of Canadians*.

that's akin to claim there is a moral responsibility to worldwide charity, AND trying to enforce that moral position with laws, with state violence, against people who disagree.

they just say **** YOU, I give to the causes I care about, when I want to the amount I want to, and it's outrageous to even think the state should be used to violently force everyone to donate to foreigners you want to help.

imho it should be actually fully illegal to use the state to help someone who is not a citizen, but that's just my MORAL position.

uh BC has the port so obviously it “exports” more of everything. But as your article notes, almost all the thermal coal Canada produces comes from Alberta. If only that province had done what was right. Sadly not.

I’m not sure how you would imagine that a ban in 2030 would magically affect the free market prior to 2030. The numbers rising now show that the market can NOT be trusted and why thank god at least one of the parties is promising to end it once and for all.

Because no in Alberta has pledged to eliminate coal exports and pledges to tackle climate change and put in a carbon tax

I believe in bringing all our resources to market so I don’t want to halt coal exports but if I truly believed in a strong climate policy eliminating coal exports would be the best way instead of a carbon tax

Let’s be clear on a few things I do not vote conservative every time in Alberta . I missed the last election in Alberta because I had moved to BC I could have voted but did not think it was fair to do so and the two previous elections I voted for the NDP party . That same leader Rachel Notley is calling for a pause on the carbon tax

Now to your first point no the facts are no matter what Canada does it will have zero impact on the worlds climate change problem . Though if I was to do something that would have the biggest impact is I would stop all USA exports of coal through CDN west coast ports .

Remember, the carbon tax originated as a conservative, market-based approach to dealing with carbon pricing, and indeed lots of conservatives of all types had support for carbon pricing schemes. But that was before Poilievre.

Now the conservatives have a new leader that realizes the carbon tax for what it is political . The proof is in the pudding as they say . He gave a break to Atlantic Canada to win votes. He allows Quebec to have a plan that is far lower than what the rest of the country pays in tax
