In other news

In the current news climate we see that some figures and events tend to dominate the front-pages heavily. Still, there are important, interesting or just plain weird things happening out there and a group of people can find these better than one.

I thought I would test with a thread for linking general news articles about "other news" and discussion. Perhaps it goes into the abyss that is page 2 and beyond, but it is worth a try.

Some guidelines:
- Try to find the "clean link", so that links to the news site directly and not a social media site. Avoid "amp-links" (google).
- Write some cliff notes on what it is about, especially if it is a video.
- It's not an excuse to make outlandish claims via proxy or link extremist content.
- If it's an editorial or opinion piece, it is polite to mark it as such.
- Note the language if it is not in English.
- There is no demand that such things be posted here, if you think a piece merits its own thread, then make one.

It is? Where are you getting this from?

I have reliable sources. Trust me bro.

My social media feed keeps showing the same clip of a FBI agent (who happens to be a black female with a nose ring) announce they are taking over the investigation and stating it wasn't terrorism but was an IED (like the 2 are mutually exclusive somehow). I am having trouble wrapping my mind around the thought process behind the FBI making this statement.

It is clearly gaslighting and very likely not true and not even particularly coherent; so what is the point of making the statement. It is like someone in the FBI purposefully decided to discredit their own investigation from the jump.

Elon Musk said he's never seen anything like this.

Here's a picture of the truck still burning (battery fires are hard to put out) . Doesn't look like much of an explosion to me.

All I see is a shitty quality thing on fire next to a shitty quality thing that isn’t

Elon and his team are convinced this explosion was caused by something on the outside of the vehicle's control system and battery and was due to something in it's bed, either explosives or fireworks.

Here's the video of the car exploding so pls everyone top listening to a fake "MSM" source. It wasn't on fire prior to the explosions but they're trying to downplay it.

It also killed the driver. A car exploded in a Las Vegas hotel valet killing the driver and almost setting the hotel on fire but it's only a minor story to the DS's control arm, the MSM.

I wonder if this was a message to Trump from the DS or if it was the execution of a Trump team member since nothing can be ruled out atm. If I said it once I said it a thousand times we're not getting to Jan. 20th while walking through a field of peaches and roses.

pb i love you, but don't you have your containment thread for posts like that?

I expect this from reddit, but you people should be intelligent enough to know that lithium batteries do not simply violently explode without a little ramp-up time. Not to mention that Teslas are equipped with sensors that warn you whenever there's something wonky with one of the systems, as confirmed by the aftermath investigations of actual battery failure in the past.

2025 is off to a great start. Inb4 people claim Trump was behind all of this so he can use the military to rule as a dictator under the guise of keeping the peace.

my laptop keyboard was all ffd one day, i couldn't tell what was wrong but something was definitely wrong, everything felt wrong as well and when i went to close it, i realized it wouldn't close all the way because the lower half had expanded

thinking wtf i brought it into a service center from the supplier, they pop it open and very carefully remove the engorged laptop battery which had pushed the case open to the point that the keyboard ceased functioning

he then very carefully and with tongs holding it from a distance brought it to the back room where he said it would be disposed of safely

said i was really lucky to have caught the battery mid expansion, had i been away and not noticed it the laptop could have exploded

maybe you sourced the laptop thru Hezbollah on accident

Like we haven't already heard that one plenty from a certain segment of the population over recent decades lol

[laptop story]

Definitely a cool story, but also shows how incredibly simple it is to eliminate the truck itself as the cause for this. These failures happen over time, and in every other case of a Tesla battery fire, it's an unoccupied vehicle or occurs as a result of undercarriage damage while driving. Either way, the diagnostic systems are aware of these failures in real time and will show a warning and phone home with that data. Tesla has owned up to past incidents, so it's not like they'll suddenly decide to participate in a cover-up for this. Only the vehicle occupant died, and the other injuries were minor.

It is? Where are you getting this from?

Also, given all the technology that goes into these trucks, it should be pretty easy to deconstruct what happened. I imagine Tesla can look up the state of the battery when the explosion happened, and determine whether it was the battery, and if it was how it exploded.

I dont think there is going to be any way to "cover tracks" if it was deliberate.

This truck had 7 recalls in 1 year. There are probably many hotel and pedestrian cameras that recorded everything.

At this point anyone that doesn't have Trump Derangement System realizes it was most likely a terrorist attack. It seems likely the truck had a massive amount of bomb material, but the terrorists I guess didn't realize how strong Cybertrucks were, so it contained most of the blast that was meant to destroy the front of the hotel and potentially cause mass casualties.

yeah, will be interesting to learn if it was the owner or a valet driver though

NYT has a good recollection of elements about the terrorist attack in New Orleans

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/01/us/su...

Reading it, I got the eerie feeling that happened while reading Mangione story.

This doesn't look like a person who was a time bomb, an a-priori identifiable high risk.

He didn't have the beat life till that point but he had quite a normal one till recently

Las Vegas driver of exploded car was a US army veteran who specialised in intel.

According to Daily Mail, he served in the same army base as the New Orleans killer, although it's not confirmed if they knew each other. Both vehicles were rented using the same turo app, cops not sure if they're connected due to this.

Conflicting reports there. His ex wife's husband said he only converted to Islam last year, and started then acting erratic since the conversion, yet Jabbar's brother states that while they were raised Christian, Jabbar converted years ago and was Muslim for most of his life.

In other news, an immigrant who entered just 2 days ago just committed an horrific act of terror driving a truck through the crowd in New Orleans, to which i suppose the left will answer with "we need more truck control laws"

Omg when did this happen??
Haven't heard anything about this at all.

Are you suggesting that a bomb that could destroy part of a building from the outside was not sufficient to do much damage the body of a Tesla?

Maybe these are the other nutjobs like Playbig who believe they are fighting the deep state with Trump and his buddy Putin to stop the globalists.

this is indeed the talking point going around the right wing twitterverse

You should stop posting because you’re an idiot who doesn’t know wtf you’re talking about.

People can be weird Tesla zealots while also being correct that a Cybertruck is just about the worst possible choice for a car bomb. Any other vehicle and you probably blow out most of the front windows and send glass at anyone inside.

0/10 for planning and execution if your goal was mass casualties, though. New Years Day in Vegas at off-peak hours in front of a hotel nobody stays at? The hotel isn't even in a high traffic area.

They say he was special forces, but I think the special in this case involves a short bus.
