Which countries outside NATO and it's allies, promote democratic values and human rights more?

Or is your claim that non NATO countries and allies are just identically as bad as us?

There are 30 countries in NATO. Many of the others are either tiny nations which have no impact on the wider world or nations we have destroyed through imperialism and resource conquest.

Out of all 30, the U.S. is pretty close to the stone worst, although I admit to being no expert on Albania and North Macedonia.

Lol i am asking which other countries outside are better for you guys.

In order to criticize someone you must have a real life example of someone else who is a lot better to copy right? In the present or in the past.

So I ask again which country of significant size and power not currently allied with the USA in the present or in the past do you think is or was so far better than the USA to learn from, copy institutions and values and so on?

Or, as I wrote, are all countries horrible beyond saving today, and in the history of the world?

Looks like this is the thread for all 2024 elections

Desantis school board takeover didn't go as he planned.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-el...

He went 25-5 two years ago. Looks to lose over half now with his endorsements. You're also not hearing about this stuff as much nationally now. I imagine normal people want politics out of education more than a right wing takeover.

And as I told you, most nations are either tiny and thus incomparable, were torn apart by the U.S. and other colonizers (and thus incomparable), or the, like, 80% of all Global North countries (and a big percentage of Global South ones) which are at least nominally "allies" of the U.S.

In order to criticize someone you must have a real life example of someone else who is a lot better to copy right? In the present or in the past.

No. What? This isn't how criticism works. Anyway, countries such as Canada, Australia, Finland/Sweden/Norway, and numerous others, would be "a lot better to copy", but apparently those don't count because they're allied with the planet's biggest superpower in order to not disturb the international order.

Nigeria ... nominally an ally of the U.S.
New Zealand ... ditto
South Africa ... ditto
SAUDI F ARABIA ... yes, even Saudi Arabia!

the list of countries from which I can pull to refute your dumb argument is vanishingly small

World history is pretty long, and america has many enemies at the present.

Is China better? Russia? Belarus? Venezuela? Syria before the civil war? Saddam Iraq? Taleban led afghanistan ?

I can go on

You should have some very clear examples of better countries given how much you criticize the USA, unless you are disgusted by all countries present and past right?

And if most other countries allies with the USA it means they all disagree with you as well so they are bad allying with a monster.

So, which actual real life model of societal organization present or past is far better than the USA for human rights and democratic norms?

DeSantis has done a great job of aggressively destroying his political future.

He's aggressively horrible but he seems to be pretty popular here in Florida.

It would have been irresponsible to give Kennedy any position more significant to the country than assistant groundskeeper.

It’s standard protocol. When the Dems were scared Bernie was going to win you don’t think they promised mayor Pete a cabinet post and others so Biden could win

Lozen i think the point is that RFK is a terrible person with terrible ideas that are actually directly very damaging for society if applied, so rococo wouldn't want him in any position with actual power, and i kinda agree at least for healthcare.

Moreover RFK does say some sensible things about health and that's even worse, because people can become convinced the other stuff is correct as well. RFK is a true old school antivaxer, the "all vaccines cause autism and worse" kind of, the "let's go to developing countries trying to convince them not to vaccinate" kind of person.

That he is broadly correct about some run of the mill claims he makes about ultraprocessed food and stuff like that make him very very very very dangerous for society, if in power.

Desantis is one of the biggest national flamouts I've seen in my lifetime. There was lots of power and money behind his Presidential bid but when it came time to make his case to the American people he came off like a wet noodle. A horrible politician with the charisma of a garden rake.

its nice that this women put in the work on this, but we already know this about Dems.

As odious as his politics are, being uncharasmatic really was more important in limiting his damage.

I have a similar study, which is that MAGA chodes and leftist chodes seem to suffer from the same crippling inability to differentiate between the singular and plural of the word "woman". A quick search of this forum will confirm my findings.

It's in a tweet so it has to be true. Those are the rulez (sic).

NO nation "promotes democratic values and human rights". Some nations are run more democratically and are less oppressive than others, sure, but no nations deny themselves the opportunity to hoard resources, strengthen their bonds with groups and other nations that can help them, etc., etc.

This is another example of why nations should be dissolved.

Unite every human under one internationalist banner and suddenly there are no more dastardly foreign nations with whom to commit war! EZ game, I

The sovereign state with its rigid borders is a recent invention. The concept was born in the mid 1600s, and as a concept it had become the universal norm by the end of the 1800s.

As well all know, before this the world was a peaceful utopia ruled by kings and princesses straight out of Disney.

Ok so all nations are bad but somehow putting them all togheter things will be good, explain the rationale.

You can't have war inside a nation? or enormous oppression syphoning resources from one group to another? how is aggregating things that according to you all suck a lot going to create something good lol

Story checks out.

The state as a concept existed well before our modern principle of sovereignty, but then state was used as a continuation of status, aka its rulers ability to maintain his / her claim over territory and people.

Exactly when sovereignty become a concept and model to follow is a hot topic, but one would typically point to the peace of Westphalia in 1648 as its inception. Thus its popular name: The Westphalian system

@Checkraise - No idea, but not someone I'd want to go for a beer with from that list of descriptors, I daresay.

It as just a silly gag because the dates were relatively close together, dude. I.e. utopia was "invented" but was so good it only lasted about 100 years.

I realized, but I never pass up an opportunity to geek out over this issue.

Decolonialism is the attempt to 1) deny any and all improvements caused by western colonial powers in the countries that got colonized 2) attempt some sort of reactionary (for those cultures) travel back in time to concepts and cultural elements as they existed pre-colonization (only western, all other colonizations aren't touched or discussed), identifying them and claiming they are inherently superior to colonial ones.

It's one of the many anti-western racists attempt on the left to demonize and treat western culture as uniquely evil
