His endgame is not going to prison.

He said it and he said it and he said it. And that's good enough for some people. When a more sophisticated view of such a claim, obviously, would be, "Thou doth protest too much," there is an large element of the electorate with a lust to believe and to kowtow to a fake strongman. So when they do it, it's not mysterious. The phenomenon is as old as the hills.

He's colossally stupid, functionally anti-learning, and critically, anti-reality. It's this last that threatens to undermine everything. The art of politics includes lying and deception, but there is a special brand of it that seeks to ignore and overrule reality as their primary mode of functioning, as their strategy for coping with life. When this impulse reaches the upper echelons of government by hoodwinking (and seducing in other ways) an incompetent electorate, then once again we have the cycle of authoritarianism returning. It's been going on, coming and going, since the dawn of civilization.

I fully agree it is a dramatic wow to see it happening here and now, but it ain't a mystery.

He isn't a politician, he isn't a statesman, he isn't a leader, he isn't a Christian, he isn't a negotiator. But none of that matters to his followers, even if you prove it right in front of them. They're all-in. They don't care. They are on the bandwagon.

I think maybe the people who fall for it are self-blind psychologically, and therefore blind to others'. Some Democrats I know even fell for it. Consider a fundamentalist: stubborn and unthinking by nature, they want an authoritarian leader first and foremost, and that never changes unless and until they can recover their agency.

Of course a huge part of The Movement isn't being tricked. No, they cover their dark motives with phony ones and dig in for their poster child.

Good line by Kamala: "He'll bring an enemies list to the job, I'l bring a to-do list." Good speech somebody wrote.

Maybe the hidden, pollster-tricking vote that went for him in '16 will go against him here, upsetting the poll prediction again.

2016, we told you he was authoritarian. 2020 he does something authoritarian. 2024 he says he will be an authoritarian again.

Why I do get tho is Biden been accused for 4 years by republicans Biden is a senile old man not knowing where he is and and no idea what he says .

First of all, Trump has that something , that it factor, that can't be explained. That's why millions of people basically worship him. Because let's face, as uncomfortable as it is to say openly. That's why nobody says it. White men rule this country and lot's of Americans want it to stay that way and Trump understands that and knows how to manipulate it.

All this constant, condescending attitude that liberals show towards Trump and Trump voters is what is dumb.

trump is popular simply because millions of americans are angry and they stupidly believe trump fight for them shrug.

they see trump fighting many imaginary enemies (deep state, liberals, democrats, immigrants,etc) for them thinking he will accomplish something but he just never does lol...

Unfortunately, it appears not, which goes back to the point I keep making about the general stupidity, ignorance and paranoia of the American public. Any other civilised country, Trump is barely a fringe candidate. The US has way more Playbigs per unit population than any other first world country.

[Incidentally, not sure "per unit population" is the right term, but "per capita" seems stilted when the measure itself then becomes so much smaller than 1, and per 100k or whatever seems arbitrary.]
