US Immigration Crisis

US Immigration Crisis

I didn’t see an immigration thread so I figured I would add one. This problem seems to be worsening everyday of the current admin. Hopefully some of our new elected officials can help with this. Mr. Luttrell is a great start

ver the past twenty-five years, historical scholarship has dismantled the longaccepted belief that antebellum Americans took a laissez-faire approach to immigration.
Some scholars had labeled the era before the 1882 as one of an “open door” since
Congress federalized immigration regulation that year and passed the Chinese Exclusion
Act, implying that no meaningful regulation existed before that time.1
Legal historians
like Gerald L. Neuman and William J. Novak have shown that robust local and state-level
mechanisms exercised considerable control over newcomers.

Obviously the Antebellum South had... different views on immigration.

can you even read? New York State took the lead

I read the bit about "Some scholars had labeled the era before the 1882 as one of an “open door”..." and figured you were doing a fine job arguing my point for me.

When are we gonna build a digital wall? Lets make the Philippines pay for it

it's from the same piece above lol.

They try to tell you that label has been debunked, that theory is objectively false, it wasn't open door, and they explain why in the linked paper.

Not sure if you are ironic but don't you see how this is taking the benefits without the costs? same as when you import a good manufactured elsewhere?

actually i would fully agree with going back to the rules of 19th wrt immigration, for everything immigrant-related though including all welfare.

It was pseudo-open-borders at 0 welfare (full 0 : if you dont' get private charity you just die in the streets if poor), which is exactly the model i advocate for since the beginning of my replies in this thread.

Oh and non whites had a really really really hard time to ever get naturalized in the 19th century, not sure you agree with that as well

The naturalization act of 1798 required 14 years to get citizenship, and only free white people were allowed to naturalize.

"OPEN BORDERS LIKE IN THE 19TH CENTURY!!!!"

From society's POV some of welfare is bad and some is good in that it produces a positive return on investment. That's neither here nor there. It's not like an abhorrent opinion to think such things should be in the hands of private charities instead of governments. Borders are abhorrent. Freedom is a good in and of itself and it is for everyone, not just within national boundaries. If you don't like welfare, vote against it or don't pay your taxes. Idgaf. But stop paying people with guns to shoot other people who are mostly just looking for work.

People were allowed to live here and work. That's pretty good.

That they were incredibly racist in 1798 is no surprise. They probably though Black migrants were, as you like to say, "garbage people".

there were no black migrants, not sure if you have a clue about how demographic fluxes were at the time.

Remember that the main problem of open borderism is getting too many bad people in with the vote and then they vote to take your freedoms and your stuff and you lose.

If you remove the vote part of make it very marginal (14y in 1798 with their life expectancy is like 25-30 today), and you only allow naturalization if people come from already civilized countries (that's the essence of "white only", not racism), you dodge the problem by the most part.

Add that to 0 welfare and it can work. Oh wait, it *actually worked*.

Except you don't care, you only want the open borders without giving a fuss about the existential risk of giving the vote to people who hate freedom or forcing taxpayers to pay welfare to poor immigrants.

LOL, the immigrants are piling up at the border to take our freedom away. Nice.

I'm not a dick. If I'm free, I think other people should be free. If people don't vote the way I like, I will probably live with it or leave. Part of loving freedom is not controlling other people - it's not just not letting other people control you.

"black migrants" lol

For real, what does this dickhead have to do to catch a ban?

'A sense of betrayal': liberal dismay as Muslim-led US city bans Pride flags. In 2015, many liberal residents in Hamtramck, Michigan, celebrated as their city attracted international attention for becoming the first in the United States to elect a Muslim-majority city council

Your criticism would be less hollow if you weren't also a reactionary culture warrior. The headline here for you should be something like "hooray! Muslim led town votes down cultural marxism!".

These idiots are going to gin up a mass shooting in Michigan with this ****.

Well, that's gotta be a tough one to process. On the one hand, they are anti-lgbtq. On the other hand, they're muslim.

Ooops, looks like the republicans like to do this too.

Ye and? if you think that's a reduction of freedom, that's an example of a freedom you can forget if you import too many people who dislike it and give them the vote.

You should only give the vote to people who will vote according to your values, if you are rational
