Moderation Questions
The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic failed, and it became a general discussion thread with almost no moderation related posts at all. And those that were posted were so buried in non-mod posts that it became a huge time drain on the mods to sort through them. Then, when off topic posts were deleted posters complained about that.
This led to the closing of the mod discussion thread, replaced by the post report/pm approach. This has filtered out lots of noise, but has resulted at times in the General Discussion Thread turning into a quasi-mod thread. This is not desirable, but going back to the old mod thread is also not a workable option.
Therefore, I have created this new moderation thread, but with a different purpose and ground rules than previous mod threads. The purpose of this thread is to provide a place for posters to pose questions to the mods about how policies are applied; to bring to the mods attention posts they think are inappropriate and reach the level of requiring mod action; and for mods to communicate to posters things like changes or clarifications to policies, bannings, etc.
Now let me tell you what this thread is NOT a place for. It is not for nonmoderation related posts, even if the discussion originates from a comment in in a mod related post. It is not for posters to post their opinions about other posters or whether a poster should be banned. It is not to rehash past grievances about mod decisions from months or years ago. The focus of this thread will be recent posts that require action now. Or questions about current policies and enforcement.
So basically, this is a thread to ask mods questions. Which means, pretty much that only mods should be answering those questions. If a poster asks why a particular post was deleted or allowed, only a mod can answer that. Everyone else who wants to jump in with their opinion or their mod war story needs to stay out of it. It just increases the noise to signal ratio and does nothing to answer the question.
Everyone needs to understand that this thread has very different rules than the old mod thread and any other thread. Any non-moderation post will be deleted on sight. Not moved to the appropriate thread, just deleted. So don't waste your time crafting a masterpiece post about wars or transgender issues or the presidential election and then post it in this thread. It will be gone. Also, this isnt a thread for general commentary about our mods performance. Posting "browser sucks as a mod" or any such posts that don't actually ask about a policy or request a mod action will be deleted. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the moderation of this forum. But this thread isnt for complaining about mods. You are free to go to the ATF forum and make your concerns about modding in this forum there.
So with that intro, this thread is open for those who need to bring questions about mod policies or bring inappropriate posts to the mods attention. Again, it is NOT a thread for group discussions about other posters or for other posters to answer questions directed to mods.
We'll see how this goes. If you have what you feel is an open issue raised in the General Discussion Thread, please copy that post or otherwise reintroduce the issue here.
Thanks.
What happens after Ka4 ....B5+, as black doesn't have to take the pawn and force a stalemate. It seems like after CxB and then ...B3, KxB ...KxC, black still has the opposition and can eventually capture the E pawn.
1...b6?? 2.Ka4 b5 3.cb5 b3 4.Kb3 Kb5 and neither side can get opposition and it's a dead draw -- just looking at the position, need engine to be 100%
So I assume this means in a simple endgame (to a chess GM at least) if you make each move under 2 seconds your time never runs out.
Yes, but in practice it is super easy to freeze up and flag, regardless of strength. Not long ago I lost on time in a time control where you get 5 free seconds before every move. It's super common.
So I assume this means in a simple endgame (to a chess GM at least) if you make each move under 2 seconds your time never runs out.
Well it means you can't work through the "he has only 5 sec left vs 1min+" as a "it's going to lose automatically soon enough if moves are available".
Can still lose at +2s/move with few seconds left even in "easy" endgames as pressure is enormous (or you can blunder to avoid losing on time then the opponent capitalizes on it)
Because the title to this thread is "Moderation questions". I would naturally think this is the place to go for moderation questions not chess talk. It doesn't matter to me I just find it weird. There are so many sub forums. It seems discussing this in a "chess" forum would make more sense. Maybe change the title of this thread to "Moderation questions and any other nonsense you want to talk about".
It used to be "moderation and general chat" then some mod decided to change it to just moderation but the people want chat.
Baby Xnerd is becoming more clever and it’s getting more difficult to cut her off at the pass of some of her less good ideas. This is a problem.
I told her she couldn’t watch tv and hid the remote, so she snuck off into another room and found a remote to a different tv and then tried to sneak back past me and do it herself.
It was a good plan. That remote doesn’t work in here, but I see you.
Sounds like chess is going to be a big part of her life.
A two day ban seems appropriate for Baby Xnerd.
Shouldn't it be Crossbaby? Or Babynerd?
What's with the "what's with Puffy D" thread stickied at the top of the page?
they are honeypots designed by max to get people to use the new format, if you click them it's the new version and you can't view them in the old, they are new version only
a lot of people click that and then don't know how to go back to the old version
one way to get more feedback i guess 😀
If they aren't removed then eventually the entire first page will be filled by them
Yeah, I actually have no idea how to fix them. Working on it.
Also the juice one is quite possibly (given the OP's screen name) a not super veiled call to genocide.
So my dog is in heat for the first time as you're apparently not supposed to have them spayed until after their first heat.
And so our normal morning walk takes us past this dog named one-eyed Willie's house (he lost an eye), and him and my dog get along well and he'll follow us sometimes just a little bit away from his house or sometimes just stay in his yard to say hi before we continue on, but today with my dog in heat he was clearly just going to follow us forever. And eventually the walk takes us onto a busier street where I wouldn't be comfortable having him following us off a leash so I had to turn back, take him back home and ring his doorbell and get him inside.
Not walking past his house on our walk isn't really an option because there aren't many routes around here and of the ones in his neighborhood his house is at a junction where I'm forced to go past it.
I don't want to always have to go to his door either to get him in so I suppose I'll be taking an extra leash with me and just finish the walk with him to my car then drive him home-- which I should probably at least clear with his owner's before I start doing that but the whole thing is annoying.
Thankfully, moderators have been told that's not the case:
I'd recommend providing some feedback here:
bobo that post you quoted by max is in secret mod chat
Thanks, Bobo ♥
