Moderation Questions
The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic failed, and it became a general discussion thread with almost no moderation related posts at all. And those that were posted were so buried in non-mod posts that it became a huge time drain on the mods to sort through them. Then, when off topic posts were deleted posters complained about that.
This led to the closing of the mod discussion thread, replaced by the post report/pm approach. This has filtered out lots of noise, but has resulted at times in the General Discussion Thread turning into a quasi-mod thread. This is not desirable, but going back to the old mod thread is also not a workable option.
Therefore, I have created this new moderation thread, but with a different purpose and ground rules than previous mod threads. The purpose of this thread is to provide a place for posters to pose questions to the mods about how policies are applied; to bring to the mods attention posts they think are inappropriate and reach the level of requiring mod action; and for mods to communicate to posters things like changes or clarifications to policies, bannings, etc.
Now let me tell you what this thread is NOT a place for. It is not for nonmoderation related posts, even if the discussion originates from a comment in in a mod related post. It is not for posters to post their opinions about other posters or whether a poster should be banned. It is not to rehash past grievances about mod decisions from months or years ago. The focus of this thread will be recent posts that require action now. Or questions about current policies and enforcement.
So basically, this is a thread to ask mods questions. Which means, pretty much that only mods should be answering those questions. If a poster asks why a particular post was deleted or allowed, only a mod can answer that. Everyone else who wants to jump in with their opinion or their mod war story needs to stay out of it. It just increases the noise to signal ratio and does nothing to answer the question.
Everyone needs to understand that this thread has very different rules than the old mod thread and any other thread. Any non-moderation post will be deleted on sight. Not moved to the appropriate thread, just deleted. So don't waste your time crafting a masterpiece post about wars or transgender issues or the presidential election and then post it in this thread. It will be gone. Also, this isnt a thread for general commentary about our mods performance. Posting "browser sucks as a mod" or any such posts that don't actually ask about a policy or request a mod action will be deleted. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the moderation of this forum. But this thread isnt for complaining about mods. You are free to go to the ATF forum and make your concerns about modding in this forum there.
So with that intro, this thread is open for those who need to bring questions about mod policies or bring inappropriate posts to the mods attention. Again, it is NOT a thread for group discussions about other posters or for other posters to answer questions directed to mods.
We'll see how this goes. If you have what you feel is an open issue raised in the General Discussion Thread, please copy that post or otherwise reintroduce the issue here.

roc, it's obviously subjective, but if you think people have followed that guidance above and never been banned before then i highly suggest you review browsers most recent work
Maybe I am projecting. Those are the only rules I have followed in the last twenty years, but maybe my gentle disposition naturally brings me in line with all the more draconian rules.

i once was given a month long ban for a single post, i got it not even reduced but wholly overturned that same day by creating an alt account and posting about it where other mods who were reasonable and not power hungry bishes would see it
Geeze, browser really did a number on you guys huh. I agree with Rococo, I've never been banned in ages on this forum, it's pretty easy to get your barbs in if that is your thing and stay on the right side of the line. Just takes a tad bit of objectivity.

With all respect due to Bowser, I really think we should be counting our lucky stars that we have the current mod team. If there is a complaint to be had, it is that there is little drama in this forum as a result, and drama is always fun. You did have to give it to Browser: he did provide the forum with plenty of opportunity for drama!

even if roc agreed that you're a total pos who is a net negative here (he probably doesn't), he still wouldn't ban you for that until you said something violent or racist - just the same way he's not going to ban me for calling you out on your deplorable and daily douchebaggery

Hi everyone. Dropped in after a bit to see how things were going, and am very happy to see that rococo and ganstaman are doing a great job with the modding as I knew they would. Things are going about as well as can be expected with my stuff, but still likely wont be able to add my two cents worth on the various issues around the world very often. It is concerning how it feels like so many things,like the culture wars, the actual wars, and the upcoming elections are all accelerating and heading for some sort of massive collision. I guess time will tell if it turns out to be this huge inflection point in history or ultimately of little impact as the Y2K threat to civilization turned out to be.
There was a bit of deja vu in seeing some people still commenting about bans I gave them and making **** up. Hint Rick: i never said anything about an appeal ban button. Where do you get that stuff from? And Dunyain, the pm I sent you about why I permabanned you was sent right after I lifted your ban. That's why the subject line of that pm was "ban lifted."
But since half the country still believes the totally made up bullshit that Trump continues to spew, I guess it's to be expected that some people who are unable or unwilling to discern fact from fiction would reside in this forum as well. For the others who just didnt like or agree with my mod decisions, that's great. I respect that and by all means feel free to continue to contrast my approach with the current approach to highlight what a great job the current mods are doing. They deserve every kudo they get plus more.
I wish everyone the very best and hope to be able to rejoin the discussion as a regular poster as soon as feasible.
tbf i took it mostly as a big fu to the people who were banned because he lied and said there was an "appeal the ban" button for those who were banned and that is certainly not the case
I am not sure Bowser actually understood how the ban process works mechanically. For example, when her permanently banned me he sent me a PM explaining why, that I was obviously never going to see. Obviously he unbanned the account and I eventually saw the PM, but I doubt at the time that was his logic for sending the PM.

there may not have been a button in your claim but that's just arguing semantics and anyone is free to click that post above and read the followup conversation to see the entire picture where you make it clear that banned accounts have an appeals process available and should be appealing bans

it'll go away once there's a new post which isn't deleted

I have been deleting MANY of your posts that ONLY contain a video. There have been other posters that have learned to add a summary when posting YT or other video links. You seem to not be getting the message.
You CANNOT post a video (in many cases lately) that are over an hour runtime and not support your message with a summary. Even if the video is as short as one minute... if I see it, the post will be removed.
Notwithstanding the above, it does seem that there has been some sort of technical issue with the forum in the last few days. There is also a thread in ATF to that effect.

the way the site is designed, people are highly unlikely to ever see their own posts again because it feeds you the new stuff
so deleting someone's posts without informing them via pm is unlikely to have any intended effect of delivering a message as they may not even know it happened
what would help with delivering a message is an actual message
