President Elon Musk
He probably deserves his own thread at this point, discuss accordingly
I'm not talking about tax deductions.
What I'm asking is being that he's worth nearly half a trillion dollars, do you think a new tax bracket should be imposed (i.e., new tax legislation passed) for the uber, uber wealthy to pay a slightly higher percentage?
If you think that's not fair, please explain why it's not fair.
It's not fair to tax wealth (and it's completely unconstitutional to do so at the federal level in the USA).
Wealth isn't income, the only moral and reasonable tax on wealth is always absolutely 0.

Owning an house is wealth , owing real estate is wealth ,owning land is wealth , they all are being taxed shrug .

Houses can be taxed for the services provided to them, but it's deeply unfair to tax on house value yes.
You should be taxed per person living there regardless of house value, for the services you get by living them from the local council.
If commercial property, size can be the reasonable variable to tax (and/or by commercial activity or revenue or something else, there are various ways that make sense).
But the idea that if your property increases in value then you should pay more for the same traffic lights and garbage collection is expropriation and collectivism at it's worst.
And btw in Italy we don't pay any tax on owner occupied housing, it was the most important political battle Berlusconi managed to win.
Owner occupied housing is the cornerstone of freedom and a sacred thing which shouldn't be taxed
So you want to tax a bank account and treat it like a car or house?
Elon outed himself to a pretty big chunk of the gamersphere this week as a complete and total fraud. This should be seen as a big positive for those who wish that his cultists would see through the façade. These "Court of Public Opinion" types are only as powerful as their cohort of apologists.
Several months ago, there was much fanfare about his dominant position on the Diablo 4 ladder, and people were wary, but gave him the benefit of the doubt because he did several live streams of him playi
I think there is a substantial likelihood that he has someone on payroll playing for him, but yes, his insistence on being well liked is a massive self own for anyone with a shred of critical thinking skills
Hes been a pathological liar since at least 2018 and a large % of the population hasn't figured it out in the last 7+ years so nobody will care.
And yeah, Trump does the same ******ed pathological **** that is so ****ing obvious to anyone who has an IQ above the average temperature of a Siberian ice locker and then something like this happens that is so blatant and egregious that the veil has literally been disintegrated yet nothing gets internalized and no light bulb goes off then people like me are left calling all you idiots ****ing ******s in a blind rage

pretty wild stuff
one would have assumed he would have known enough to know that would be a bad idea
It's a funny story for sure but I am surprised that you guys think it's notable in any way that these guys lie about everything. I mean, have you heard some of the things Biden has said the last few years?

what's notable about it is this is something elon should know enough about and understand just how fanatical and optimization centric that audience is
it's one thing to ignore your dad owned the largest house in south africa and highlight your grandma who may or may not have cleaned homes or to pretend like he was a scholarship kid in college who had to do side hustles to pay tuition - those are all matters which are both unclear and subjective in nature
him doing this is a sign he's moved on beyond casual lying and has entered full on narcissism where he views all his ideas as so good that he's not even able to see the downside
It's quite something how Trump and his ilk have completely changed the game, and unlike most political pendulum swings, I'm worried this one isn't coming back. Now we're at a point where a promise/declaration is made that anyone who thought about it for five minutes could see wasn't even possible, and then is retracted 11 days before his guy even comes to power, and it's just a lot of 'meh, they all lie'. Reminds me of when Fox lost the big lawsuit and the response on the right was 'meh, they all lie'. Sad. Really, really sad.

This.
its nothing new guys. the Dems do it too. hell, Im old enough to remember when Biden and Kamala lied about kerosened babies and mass rape. or when they lied about 1200 dollar checks. the only difference between the ghouls is the aesthetics and the media portrayal.
like, are we really talking about narcissism when an 82 year old senile Biden is still griping that he would have beaten Trump if he would have been allowed to run?
Yeah man both sides, both sides, both sides, both sides
You can say that until your dick falls off it doesn't make you any less ******ed
You, Trump, Elon, other ******s, all just a microcosm of the last decade of MAGA
Joe Biden, supposedly not a narcissist.

Well coordi Musk was in bed with actual democrats for longer that he has been in bed with republicans so even if the "both sides" thing is usually overblown, in this particular case it is absolutely appropriate.
You are right Musk can be problematic, that's true of everyone who was very friendly with democrats and schemed with them for long times. True for Trump as well.
Can't cancel history though, both Musk and Trump have been democrats, and staunch allies of democrats leaders, for longer than they have been Republicans.
And that's why you are correct in not trusting both of them, in feeling nauseated by them at times, democrats tend to cause that yes.
Still doesn't change the fact that people on the right are pragmatists who don't believe humans are inherently good, we know people who look for power are all inherently evil, we just accept that as part of reality, and among the evil powermongers we still choose those that are at least vaguely aligned with our perceived self interest

Yeah, I wonder too. I feel like in the past there was some sort of baseline of truth out there. The right and left fought, but everything they fought about was sort of agreed upon. Now with the maga twitterverse they take a stand that has no basis in reality. So, they pick a guy that tells them it's just fine to do this.
I dunno where we're going but it isn't looking good right now. Maybe the magaverse runs out of other people to blame for every little thing. Doubtful.
This week, he streamed himself playing newly released Path of Exile 2 on Twitter and made blunder after blunder after blunder, removing any and all doubt that he simply paid some group of Asians to create his entire account and then hand him the controller for a few hours in a carefully controlled situation that eliminated the possibility that he could **** it up. But oh boy, did he **** it up. Some key people neglected to inform him that Diablo 4 is to Path of Exile as building a backyard san
I've never really played much Diablo, but the weirdest part to me is if he sucks and doesn't even know much about the game, why did he have the desire for people to think he's good? Like somehow paying people to make it seem like you're a concert level pianist or can dunk and drain 3s on a basketball court... obviously still lame as hell to fake, but at least something normal to desire.

It's 2 different games.
Diablo is easy enough that if you have a gaming attitude and other people farm for you to get you to the proper builds (that's something everyone knew was going on) you can then play it decently if you apply yourself a bit.
PoE is order(s) of magnitude more complicated and Musk approached it thinking it was just "diablo but made by another company" and made a fool of himself.
The skill gap required to understand the games between PoE and diablo is probably more than that between chess and checkers to give the idea.
The "he paid others to do the repetitive stuff so that he could access the most interesting stages of the game" isn't the issue, the issue is he genuinely had no clue about the game but didn't even realize that.
They do this sort of stuff from time to time just to rub in our faces that it's all a game.
A lip reader determined Trump was telling him they need to go someplace quiet to talk about something important. It matches up with a rumor I heard perfectly. It wasn't "friendly"; Trump even admitted he gets along with everyone, meaning even his and our enemies.

First part is obviously AN issue, but the real problem Musk had here is that he went extremely hard in the paint to show that he did this all by himself when it was beyond obvious that he did not.
If he had just owned up to being new like everyone else and made a character and died to the first boss a couple times, he'd seem relatable and everyone would've loved it. He didn't do that, though. He showed up on an account that has been online (from Asia) for 20 hours of every day since the game released and claimed that he was the one solely responsible, after flubbing literally every minor detail about it. The absolute height of ignorance and arrogance.

My point is if Elon doesn’t know this stuff it’s really weird for him to care enough to pretend. Like if he cared enough about people thinking he’s a genius to pay mathematicians or physicists to add him as a coauthor on papers, I’d expect him to at least read and be able to regurgitate the abstract of the paper he supposedly coauthored. Because if you’re so uninterested you can’t do that, why bother even trying to fake it?
