My Jimmy Carter Story
When Carter was president, I was working for the US Census Bureau in Suitland Md. During his presidency, there was an oil embargo and Carter, through executive order, reduced the temperature in all government offices to the mid-fifties. So, we sat there freezing for a couple of days getting no work done. Then someone figured out how to break into the office heaters and by the end of the week the temperature was back to normal and we could work again.
So Carter, at least at the Census Bureau, disrupted work for a couple of days, and probably made a number of people sick.
Mason
Put on a sweatshirt and get back to work, Mason.
"Carter made me cold one week in the 1970s" is quite a story.
You couldn't do work because the temperature was in the 50s? That doesn't make sense.
Also, you were not "freezing", as "freezing" occurs below the mid 50s.
Incorrect. You and your colleagues who couldn't figure out how to wear an extra layer disrupted work for a couple days, not PresidentCarter. Own it.
You guys are too cold.
Quite the small and petty man.
To be clear, I'm not referring to Jimmy Carter.
Everyone attacking Mason must surely realize that if Trump were to order the same that the media would be having a field day and there would be lawsuits and TROs issued.

Don’t you think we wore extra clothing? And when the office heaters were all adjusted back by the employees and we could work again, nothing was ever said again about what the office temperature should be set at.
As truly pointless as this story was I still prefer this to one of your books
The real scandal is how many kids with peanut allergies died thanks to Jimmy.
But why was there an oil embargo? Seems like more of an Israel story.
I liked the story. Those offended are chronically misanthropic.

You are correct. But the situations would be fundamentally different. Trump would order the heat turned down to personally punish the "deep staters" and others who, in his demented mind, oppose his reign. It wouldn't be because we needed to save oil or in the interest of the nation or anything noble. It would be because Trump is a ****ing child and using the powers of his office to settle his sophomoric grievances. Which is exactly what he told us he would do and is exactly what the ******s who voted for him want. Enjoy the shitshow.

Thank you for your response. Everything now makes complete sense and isn't at all ****ed up or weird.
To be fair to Mr. Malmuth here, I set the temperature in my office at 74 and am a giant baby about it getting anywhere below 72. Though, the entire north wall of my office is floor to ceiling windows of questionable R-value and the thermostat is on the interior wall.
I would also probably hold a lifelong grudge if made to do literal paperwork, by hand, in 50 degree temps before the invention of fingerless gloves. I take back my initial snark.
Are you a baby bird, inso? 50’s is long sleeve t-shirt weather. Anything above 72 is actually heinous.
I am a mildly fluffy giant and have lived in Wisconsin all my life, so I can go shovel in subzero temps with shorts on if absolutely necessary without being worse for wear; but I prefer my work environment to be Santa Barbaraesque.
It's an unspoken rule of the upper Midwest that you have to pretend like the cold doesn't bother you, but that's all bullshit. It's cold outside and I paid for 100,000 BTUs, so I'm going to use 100,000 BTUs, goddammit.
I once tolerated - even embraced - cold weather. Now that I'm older and wiser, **** that ****.
I converted values to farenheit.
When I grew up in the winter our house was aroun 50 farenheit and about 60 degrees with heater on.
We had just a pullover and were fine.
Right now I have about 62 inside my flat and Im in tshirt.
I also truly feel my story is as interresting as Mason's.
Hey d2.
You might not recall my proposition to you. It was $50 to charity if DS ever showed up with some gangster math.
He had a thread a few weeks ago that was so esoteric an AI was needed to parse his OP.
To me, that was pretty gangster. But maybe we should let others decide?
