Donald J. Trump (For everyone else except Victor)

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

The police/FBI pushing people into things has happened over and over. They've gotten like mentally handicapped people building bombs.

Are these mentally handicapped people that can't tell the difference between right and wrong, or are they the type of mentally handicapped that it takes to want to build bombs for people? I think the difference is important.

When the agent is encouraging or instigating the law breaking, yes.

Yeah, cool, but my ass is not committing any crimes based on people's words or actions.

Like, if I was at the Capitol on 1/6 and a security/police guard was waving me in, I'd be smart enough to know that my ass isn't supposed to be in there and that the security guard is probably a ******ed Trumper with his own agenda.

Oddly enough, you say you're against entrapment, and/or have a loose definition of what it is, but you're fully in support of "entrapping" fentanyl drug dealers and other unconstitutional actions against citizens to get drugs off the streets.

Justifying ones existence is a top reason for most everything. I did about 10 years as a web developer and part of a few redesigns because ?, well, what are you gonna do?

Buncha FBI agents sitting around with no cases? They're not going to just quit. They can't always get away with doing nothing. Even before Elon there were people asking them what they did last week.

by Karl_TheOG_Marx k

For sure. The FBI has a looooooong history of entrapping lone wolves into attempting acts of terrorism. I remember one where they catfished this 20-something Muslim-American. This was a guy who just wanted to live a normal-ish life, one free from the overbearing religious oppression of his family. He was very lonely, didn't accomplish much in school or work, etc., and posted regularly about his desperation to find a nice woman to date/marry. The FBI then created a female 20-something Muslim

Of course exploiting vulnerable people to commit acts they would otherwise never do in order to pad your arrest resume is evil, but what percentage do you think undercover work constitutes this vs legitimate removal of dangerous people?

lol Trump’s policies are all about growing the economy is pretty funny even by Trumper standards. Massive across the board tariffs and mass deportations are explicitly being sold by Elon as worth the huge economic destruction they obviously will cause.

Asking for clarity: do you want all LEO organizations to cease undercover operations?

In Whitmer attempted kidnap case there were more informants than defendants

I think it's all kinds of people.

Hard to imagine that right wing nut jobs would be so stupid and ignorant to think that the police and FBI have not pursued left-wing groups, but here we have it.

I wonder if they have ever heard about that one dude Martin Luther King Jr...

And yet you are a cop lover. You don't like freedom, you like privilege. You want things like free speech and due process only for your partisans.

This has been said 100x already but if you’re ok with FBI giving 20 year old Muslim basement dwellers who fantasize about joining ISIS fake bomb parts then it’s pretty hypocritical to call them out for doing the same to 45 year old white guys who fantasize about stringing up their governor.

And yea it could be entrapment. That’s like the only defense to this stuff. If you want a trial to see if a jury agrees that they went too far, then you can do it. It’s not like that defense is only available to brown people.

If you want me to give you a certain percentage, I couldn't even venture a guess, but I don't see why it has to be more than zero, unless they see pointless cruelty as some kind of bonus, I guess.

If the overall argument is that the combined good that entities like FBI performs outweighs the bad and therefore the FBI is a net positive, I would disagree, but I'm not sure how random internet posters like us could ever examine that with any real accuracy, so, it's probably not a very useful path of discussion.

I know I'm living in Dreamland if I call for these agencies to be dissolved. At this desperate point, I'd be happy if they were just a little less opaque with how they operate.

Check above as to why I answered with the examples of entrapments. Rococo said the agency has a reputation to defend and trump nominees will be terrible at that.

I answered the agency has no reputation to defend and its history, especially recent history, is utter trash

There is a reason I said "nearly all" of his policies are pro growth and not "all".

Compare trump's whole agenda to harris, biden or any other recent president and tell me he isn't more growth than all, or nearly all, of them.

I don't get what I want and my description of utopia is not something I'm going to get into.

Probable cause, reasonable suspicion, and court orders are reasonable things before the police invade people's privacy and lives.

I am 99% certain that entrapment was one of main defenses proffered by the Whitmer defendants who went to trial.

Trump growth wise has been the worst of any recent president. He’s ideology driven, not based on economic data. Like he’ll favor crappy low return coal or offshore subsidization over economically super clean energy projects. That’s why growth was so low his first term even before his covid collapse.

This is the entirety of the article you linked

not particularly helpful

It's mainly a video. 😀

Trump...He’s ideology driven...

Does "everything and anything I do is on behalf of my personal satisfaction and nothing else" count as an ideology?

I'm replying to this post, because, in my opinion, Trump is one of the LEAST ideological political figures in modern history. He's pathologically narcissistic -- look up the definition of NPD and you'll see his picture. He has no political project beyond revenge against his enemies and increasing the number of golf courses he owns. He doesn't give a **** about Project 2025 or whatever except for the **** in it that can benefit him personally.

Whatever legit political ideology he does have comes from watching Fox News 15 hours a day; he's one of the most prolific consumers of cable news media in known history. Whatever higher-minded ideas he has on ANYTHING are skin deep.

Probable cause, reasonable suspicion, and court orders are reasonable things before the police invade people's privacy and lives.

Right and these criteria are all mandatory, regardless if it's an undercover operation or not. I think the complexity here is that reasonable suspicion is more subjective than law enforcement care to admit - or at least it's applied subjectively more than they care to admit.

Last week in my hometown of Huntington Beach, CA, retired NFL punter Chris Kluwe spoke before our city council and said:

“‘MAGA’ is profoundly corrupt, unmistakably anti-democracy, and, most importantly, ‘MAGA’ is explicitly a Nazi movement. You may have replaced a swastika with a red hat, but that’s what it is.”

Now, I don't personally agree that MAGA is quite at the Nazi movement level yet, but they are definitely Nazi-adjacent at this point.

If you're unfamiliar with HB, it's made national news many times over the last few years for being a hub of Trump/MAGA support. There are constant demonstrations of support for Trump at our local pier, and our city council has openly pushed a strictly "MAGA agenda"—their words, not mine. That includes re-dedicating our library with a new MAGA plaque, shortly after banning books and pushing to privatize the library. All current city council members show clear signs of arrested development, functioning more as bullies than leaders. When the last three opposition members were voted out this past election, the new city council mocked them by gifting framed pictures of themselves with plaques featuring childish images of their victory, along with Trump firing them in meme-like images.

Whenever I meet people who know about HB—or run into old friends—they always seem shocked that HB has become a bastion of MAGA support.

I'm not.

I've lived here for 30+ years.

When I was younger and went out to the clubs downtown, fights happened almost every night, with locals shouting at POC: "Go back to 909!"—an insult aimed at those from inland cities with large Hispanic populations.

HB also had a large skinhead population for a long time. Some are still here, but they’re not as in-your-face as they used to be. We had a Nazi memorabilia store in town until fairly recently. Anti-Semitic flyers have been dropped off at a local synagogue multiple times over the years, along with Nazi propaganda left on people’s doors.

If you can't understand the politics, at least recognize the red flags. As they say, the company you keep is who you become.

All of this nonsense is designed to convince you of something that isn’t real, so that billionaires can get even richer.

Trans people wanting equal rights, and maintaining strong social safety nets, aren’t worth where this road is going to take us all. The media infrastructure wants to convince you that the right and left in this country are like Israel/Palestine—don’t believe it. It’s not remotely true. We are much, much closer in values than they want you to believe. But if you do believe it—and if you continue down this road—it's going to end where it always does: A lot of death, a lot of destruction, a lot of misery. And all the while, the people selling you their alternate reality will be laughing all the way to the bank.

The only good outcome is rejecting it and focusing on where we have common ground. America is always stronger when we focus on our sameness rather than our differences.

/off the soap box and out

That's not true. Those are requirements for arrest and some specific things like a search warrant, not all the entrapment.

I actually agree with this. Trump has no coherent ideology. He has a couple of old-man fixations that seem to have lodged in his brain some time in the 1990s, but that's about it.

Everything else is narcissism and naked self-interest.

Those are the general requirements for searches, wire taps, etc. You are correct that you don't need a court order to talk to a cooperating witness.

FD,

And the punter got arrested for it, right?
