British Politics
Been on holiday for a few weeks, surprised to find no general discussion of British politics so though I'd kick one off.
Bloke now gets arrested under terrorism for holding up a sign of a Private Eye joke regarding Palestinian Action, according to the Guardian. Ian Hislop calls it mind boggling. Hopefully he's not arrested next
Seriously lads tf is going on over your way?😵
When you elect the chief prosecutor as head of government what else would you expect?
In other news JC has officially decided to ler down his allotment and will instead spend more time with the new political party
I'd rather he retired from politics and let someone less naive take the reins tbh.
I hope he takes a bit of a back seat but apart from everything else he is an MP and the party benefits from having MPs.
The party benefits more from having a savvy leader who sees media set ups and reacts accordingly than from having one extra MP.
Wondered why Jezbollah and Nazi (National Anti Zionist Intifada) were trending.
Probably perma-trending on your timeline.
Can't someone give Corbyn a Student Union Newsletter to run, that's about his level.
I'm afraid that wouldn't feed his ego sufficiently. What he wants is more of this kind of thing:--

Never mind that there are no Durham miners any more, and that the Gala is nothing but a recreational performative wankfest for privileged bluehair noserings. (The rest of us would have trouble with the travel and accommodation costs.) That is the kind of thing he likes, that is what he relies on for validation, and the new party with no name and no policies, and probably no serious prospects, is just an opportunity for him to show off and feel the wave. A retirement project, if you like. The way other blokes, less anti-socially, restore classic cars or build model railways.
But as soon as anyone wants him to put in the punishing hours, and face all the inevitable arguments, to exercise his functions as party leader -- 'I've got my allotment to look after, you know, and it's the fruit season and all that jam won't make itself.'
The UK government's ban on Palestine Action is a "disturbing" misuse of counter-terrorism legislation, the United Nations' human rights chief has warned.
Volker Turk urged the government to lift the ban on the group, calling it "disproportionate and unnecessary."
40% of people arrested during the far rights violence last summer had been reported for domestic abuse.
We just had 11 people get stabbed by a lunatic at a Walmart. This was stopped by a good guy with a gun. I'm curious if the same thing happened in the UK how many more people would have been stabbed and killed?
Not interested in your stupid pro gun ideas that have been a demonstrable disaster for your country.

“The other Marine told me that he just went shooting at a range, and he forgot to take his pistol off his hip, ” Kolakowski said. “That’s what it all came down to.”
wtf, 2 marines cannot take out a guy with a pocket knife without a gun????
From what I read, the guy with the gun did nothing.
All you need is a good guy with a shopping cart.

probably have a better chance than the small children when a lunatic turns up at a school or nursery with a gun as per >1 weekly occurrence in USA.

Well considering what police and security are armed with in the UK you are probably looking at a few more fatalities at least

And yet a good guy with a cart stopped him.
Your point?

Southport stabbings last year -- three killed. Police arrived in 12 minutes, one armed with a taser which was not used as the suspect surrendered at the sight of the officers (who were of course wearing stab vests).
Had it been reported as a firearms incident, an armed patrol car would have attended and the officers would have been armed with carbines and 9mm sidearms.
If you weigh up the expected increase in mass shooting events and other gun related killings against the number of fatal stabbings likely to be prevented you'll see why no one wants guns4all here.
We just had 4 people get shot by a lunatic at an office building. I'm curious if the US banned semi-automatic rifles and hand guns how many fewer people would have been shot and killed?
