British Politics
Been on holiday for a few weeks, surprised to find no general discussion of British politics so though I'd kick one off.
The political damage was done before the election with the spineless, vacuous, deceitful campaign. The lack of any plan to tackle anything along with the crystalisation of the deceit was baked in.
I still think labour will recover for the next election but the doing **** all and further erosion of trust comes with a very heavy price.
re raising income tax - yeah whatver and yay if it's on the wealthier but unless we tackle the top few richest then it will make things worse in the long run.
Labour need to be honest, actually do stuff and explain why they are doing it, and be effective.
Otherwise they might let Reform in, which would be infinitely worse than it is now.
I'm not wrong as I've never said this (or at least I've never said what I think you're saying here, I can't be sure as the grammar is so bad).
You've repeatedly claimed that immigration raises crime rates, which was shown to be false on two occasions here, and on each occasion you disappeared for a while then reappeared with the same false claim.
So you're either an idiot or a liar. Or maybe a lying idiot.
Are you expecting a late deluge of anti-Farage stories or even scandals to appear before the election?
Labour need to be honest, actually do stuff and explain why they are doing it, and be effective.
Probably too late because they dont have a mandate or plans to do anything good. Best case is they do a few good bits an pieces while preparing the ground for serious policies at the next election. (They wont even do that)
Otherwise they might let Reform in, which would be infinitely worse than it is now.
True but even worse is them selling out what we have left as a country to private equity and making inequality even more entrenched. This makes the problems more intractable and people more angry/ frustrated which only sets up reform and worse even more. That's the path we are firmly on. Democracy and decency cannot survive this journey.
Are you expecting a late deluge of anti-Farage stories or even scandals to appear before the election?
I think some kind of Reform implosion is possible. I'm actually quite impressed at how Farage has managed to keep his band of nutters relatively tight lipped (we obviously saw an example last week of this not being the case).
That being said, even if there is a movement to stop Reform, I'm not convinced that voters fly back to Labour.
Are you expecting a late deluge of anti-Farage stories or even scandals to appear before the election?
Mostly I'm expecting the sell out to private equity to deliver enough signs of growth for labour to persuade enough of the 'least worsers' and headline readers to stick with them. very ineptedly reeves is trying to get the bad stuff done early - it's straight from the tory playbook.
Depends on world events of course.
The police attended and took down the attacker, by sub-lethal means, at surprisingly short notice, thanks in large part to the train driver and the signallers who brought the train into an unscheduled station stop as soon as possible while co-ordinating with BTP.
They will if McSweeney has anything to with it.
No I haven't, so you're the lying idiot.
Most immigrants are relatively affluent, well educated, and come here as they have been accepted on a university course or have an offer of a job. This is not the typical demographic of a criminal.
On the other hand, the first action of people who arrive on small boats is to break the law. The majority of these are young male economic migrants, so the odds of them breaking the law when the arrive having broken the law to get here is significantly higher than someone who has come to work or study.
This is really easy to understand, so you have somehow managed to prove yourself an idiot twice in one post, which is good going, even for you!
Moving the goalposts to make it appear that you're only referring to people arriving in small boats is typical intellectual dishonesty on your part. No one who's paid attention to your posts about immigrants being more criminal that the host population, debunked with studies on two separate occasions itt, is swallowing your BS.
Talking of far right cranks, there's something seriously wrong with Graham Linehan.

Whatever. Everyone knows you're a lying little troll, so they have no reason to assume you're being any other than that here.
He definitely has a bee in his bonnet re trans issues, but I'm not sure if that makes him actually far right.
He seems to share opinions and behaviour with the far right. He’s been recently mocking a woman for her anorexia and, fortunately for us, is saying he’s moving to Arizona where concealed carry laws apply, because it makes people very polite to each other.
But just imagine getting het up about a trans person appearing on a TV quiz show, and then imagine bombarding the host on social media with question after question on trans rights, which obviously he’s very much against.
Not surprised his wife ran off with the kids.

I reckon he's conservative as he spoke at their conference a couple of years ago, but I'm not sure I'd lump him in with the likes of Tommy Robinson and his ilk.
Ok I don't keep up with this Fred or 2p2 currently. but will do shortly.
Stop making it so front and centre that you revel in bad things when they allow you to make a political point, i'ts doing you no favours. You're coming across like a psycho when you do that.
I know you aren't really, so take this as a bit of a steer.
Just politely, for once in my 2p2 posting history life, this actually makes sense. Positive mindset, creates a positive society, we are one planet, try to identify with that.
As an American, I find it amusing that every time a British mass murderer is black, but not Muslim, the British left count it as a win for their side.
I dont know how exactly it works in Britain, but in America the left are held pretty much equally responsible if a mass murderer is black or Muslim.
If there's an atrocity or murder or heinous crime, governance needs to be held accountable for their lack of protecting society. Can we as humans stop doing team sports in governance? c'mon its 2025.. its embarrassing for our planet.
Unbelievable that they presided over a public organisation that for two years described a genocide as a war and which has been pushing the Reform agenda and its representatives into the limelight, yet they resign over something to do with Trump (as bad as that was).

That seems a reasonable outcome. The BBC newsroom has been institutionally insane for some time. The experienced professional reporters have mostly left in protest and the place is run by, for and on behalf of overprivileged delayed-adolescent graduates (because the BBC management mistakenly think that's how they'll recruit and retain the young audience). So, despite what you've said above, they go and air an actual, official Hamas propaganda video without acknowledgment (fair enough for Hamas to make that film if they wanted, but wrong for the BBC to show it without saying who supplied it to them), they've just upheld a feeble 20 complaints by trans activists against a (female, obviously) newsreader for raising an eyebrow when she saw the insane and unidiomatic phrase 'pregnant people' on the autocue and properly corrected it to 'pregnant women' and, fatally, in the course of a US election campaign, they deliberately spliced together two parts of a Trump speech, which actually occurred about an hour apart, to give a completely false impression of criminal incitement. They did that, of course, because the bluehair nosering adolescents who run the 'newsroom' think it's perfectly OK to lie about your ideological enemies, in the name of the greater good. But, since the person they were lying about is the head of state of our most powerful ally, and since he really didn't say what they pretended he said, heads have to roll.
The problem is that the useless bluehair nosering kids are still in place and are probably still doing the same type thing, and will continue to do so until they are disposed of.
And it's your belief that a cabal of "overprivileged delayed-adolescent graduate bluehair nosering kids" are in charge of the BBC news rooms and are pushing the heavily pro-Reform agenda?
