The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic fa

Was apartheid South Africa racist?

What would it take to be able to call Israel racist?

Is the US racist?

yeah the international court of justice yesterday said that israel is a racist apartheid state. sorry if that hurt your feelings, but that is the opinion of the court. it's obviously true, and people should be able to say it.

In the interest of fairness, my personal feelings are not factored into my moderation decisions.

you're probably cuddling with your husband right now!

Did they also say that about all the arab countries in which half the country are second-class citizens? If not, they aren't worth paying attention to.

Its been a wonderful year for the nazis who get a few 100k arabs wiped off the map plus while getting more of the world to hate Israel. They arent very good at recognizing the difference between Israel and jewish folk. And those people are increasing.

I don’t wanna argue anymore but I think my point is valid but maybe it isn’t. I am not sure. I don’t think Mets should be banned and I don’t think Victor should be banned for what he posted either. I see lots of egregious attacks on one side and some from the other. I don’t think either warrants bans and they stifle the conversationAt the same time I’d rather be inclusive than

That thread is ridiculously overly moderated. Compare it to the election/Biden/Trump threads for example where it seems to be hands off as it should be. Also, who exactly is the victim resulting in these bans and timeouts? It's like a football game where the refs are throwing flags all over the place. Just let them play. Are people really that offended by another person saying something "mean" too them?

This especially applies in the I/P thread where emotions are high. Let each side get it out. Who are we trying to protect here?

I'm offended when someone throws insults based on obvious lies and constantly interrupts the legitimate discussions with flame bait.

Maybe offended isn't the right word, but it makes some threads no longer worth participating or even reading.

What do we have to do to get the Biden, Harris, Trump, and election thread all merged into one?

You'd have to pay someone off. It's not great to have the discussion split up like that, but merging those threads would be much worse. Maybe as a community we could agree to discuss election-related stuff in the election thread and then discuss other things related to Biden, Harris, and Trump in their respective threads.

Hello. Is Mets coming back soon?

I have reached out to Mets via Luckbox regarding his return, and I have not heard back. He is aware I am awaiting his response. Absent his willingness to engage in dialogue, there is not much I can do. It is very much up to him as to when he comes back.

You guys are bullies

Hokay

You guys are bullies

I want to see Mets return and I don't think he should have to grovel for the privilege.

Groveling is not necessarily conducive with rehabilitation. I don’t need to hear any supplications; I need to see a change in behavior.

I mean, im not really a mets fan, and the last few times communicating with him was an argument over something i dont remember but it certainly sounds as if its very much up to you on whether he comes back and if he were to decide to go along with whatever dance that youve decided to lay out for him.

If hes serving a month ban or whatever then so be it. But he really doesnt need to change his behavior to whatever it is that you prefer in order to post here. You two are of the same.

You’re correct that as the mod who made the ban it is up to me to lift it.

I can’t really keep repeating the same stance: there’s no dance, there’s no groveling. There needs to be assurances that he’ll stop losing his composure in the I/P thread, that the personal attacks will stop, and that the constant public disputes over his individual moderations will stop.

From a purely moderator perspective, he is a problem poster. I will not disclose personal details from his user notes, but suffice to say, he has been threatened with permanent ban *repeatedly* for a variety of issues.

Regardless of how I personally feel about his posts, his constant need for moderation needs to stop and he needs to affirm that it will stop before he can come back. That is simply how it is.

Do his notes say he is a problemed poster outside of the politics forum? Can he just be banned from this subforum?

I feel like everyone is better served if you just let him be. If moderating him is too much then don’t do it! Do you want that fancy toaster?? Please release Mets , this is so unfair

Mets is far from being the poster in this forum who makes the most insults and personal attacks. Why exactly has he been treated differently from those who do far more of those?

One mod admitted to looking for a reason to ban Mets

Why exactly has he been treated differently from those who do far more of those?

crossnerd turned up in the i/p thread a few months ago, made a whole bunch of trollish posts at mets such as calling him a fascist worm, calling him a sociopath, trolling him over his wife's inability to conceive, and so on. i obviously have receipts.

mets had her on ignore the whole time and did not respond to any of her abusive posts, it was a one-way street. i distinctly remember thinking at the time that her behavior towards mets stood was unusually hostile even by the standards of that thread, and a bit weird

she then got modded, permabanned him, and made up a rule where he has to beg for her forgiveness to return

does that answer your question

^ basically yes, but I already knew most of that myself, and I even asked a question a week or two ago about possible bias, which was not answered. Still wondering if there could be another (or an additional) reason.
