Moderation Questions
The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic fa
No offence but you must have led a bit of a sheltered life as you didn't seem to know the meaning of mongoloid either. Spastic- in Ireland was shortened to "spa"- was not a good word even when I was a kid and was a slur on the physically disabled. Were you home schooled or something?
I actually knew that "spaz" was short for spastic but never until right now knew that spastic was ever used to refer to people with cerebral palsy.
I also never noticed it being connected in any way to a person with uncontrollable movements of any sort.
It's been a long time since I've heard the term at all, but when I occasionally did, back in the 1980s, it was just a generic insult, usually used in a joking manner against a friend, similar to "dork".
People are overall (or at least in richer countries) are getting taller, not because of genetics but because of better nutrition.
Do you think that means height is not at all heritable?
They may also be getting taller due to genetics, with taller people usually being seen as more desirable than shorter people within limits.
If your desire is to build a master race and achieve this by exterminating or deporting all shorter people and those you deem to be lower intelligence I don’t know what to say.
Otherwise, in the humane world, such things are pointless to talk about. If you was to create a more intelligent society then the obvious way of going about that is through better health and education and less poverty.

I'm not trying to build anything. I would love for humans to go extinct.
It's just silly to claim that intelligence isn't heritable, especially when I'm sure you actually know it is.
Maybe you are older. I got told by my parents back in the day, it wasn't obvious to me in the early 90s.
I think spaz as an abbreviation of spastic is like from the 60s. Then it "detached" for decades in popular culture. Came to mean "just" that you moved weird
You thought I grew up in the 1960s?
Is that your adorable, yet fully untrained, dog terrorizing another loose dog or do you have two dogs that own the outdoors?
By the way, how infrequently do you bathe that dog (if at all)?
Or maybe it is Option 3, Luckbox's dog playing with someone else's dog. Also, how can you tell from the photo whether the dog needs a bath?

are you seriously claiming that japanese and Korean people would be as tall as dutch people if they were richer?
If they were richer they could afford stilts.
I might be imagining it, but hasn't the average height of Asians gone up as the countries have become richer and their diets improved?
Yes
I might be imagining it, but hasn't the average height of Asians gone up as the countries have become richer and their diets improved?
yes but by less than what happened in europe when we got richer. So everyone was smaller than their genetic potential allowed them do be, for environmental reasons, but there were still massive genetic differences among ethnic groups. And by solving environmental issues it's not even automatically the case that the gap between groups gets reduced, it can actually increase.
Now do every other trait that is even partially inheritable
Obviously there are genetic and environmental components to pretty much every human trait. It's silly to pretend there just because you wish it weren't true for some traits.

Yes but the issue is that we need to see good data that isolates genetic and environmental factors with a reasonable inductive case. Otherwise itβs hard to separate the signal from the noise.
One area where genetic history is a really good component of analysis is medicine. We absolutely are able to isolate what is genetic vs environmental to see the best ways to treat someone.
Behavioral traits or intelligence on the other hand havenβt been so well-isolated.

I don't think there's any reason to try to figure out exactly how heritable intelligence is, or really for anything apart from medical.
If there actually is a difference in intelligence levels between races, for example, I don't think it matters because obviously the difference in intelligence between members of the same race is much greater than any possible difference between the average intelligence of two races. One race shouldn't be considered less than human just because their average intelligence may be lower than that of another, and learning such a thing could lead to a very bad outcome.
But even with the best intentions, if you make a claim that something like differences intelligence only exist due to differences in environment, no one (intelligent) is going to take seriously what you have to say regarding anything related to the subject.

Option 3 looks the most plausible, even though Lunchbox is the type of owner that would bust out a phone if his dog got into a scrap, but Option 3 is not the busting nuts option, so I went with the other two.
The bathing was mostly a joke about him letting (or not being able to prevent due to poor training) his dog from rolling around in cowshit.
Behavioral traits or intelligence on the other hand havenβt been so well-isolated.
But the point is you don't need to isolate or spend a ton of time proving what everyone already knows. There is no race where the average person could be expected to learn general relativity. There is no race where the average person can't learn to speak/read/write any language if exposed to it from birth. Both of these things could not have been true. The average Korean person could simply be able to learn general relativity like the average white person learns jr high algebra and a white baby adopted by Korean parents in Korea could simply never to read, write and speak Korean. But that's just not the case with any races in the real world and we don't need to pretend like we need really good data on nutrition or whatever to know that.
The old forum isn't loading for me anymore so I'm being forced to use this god awful new thing, whatever the hell this is. Just a note, I doubt I'll be continuing to post here if this continues because this as an absolute horror show of a UI. Completely unusable.
Did something happen or is this just a me thing

Been there for a while and complained a few times, this sucks badly.
So many features missing, bolded isnt bolded and posting pic is nightmarish.
Oh I didn't even think that posted because I got multiple errors when I tried to post it. What a disaster. Old site still not working for me.
