34% of Russian strategic Russian bombers at main airfields damaged in Ukrainian drone operation, SBU reports
The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) reported that the June 1 “Spiderweb” drone operation caused approximately $7 billion in damages and disabled 34% of cruise missile bombers in key Russian airbases.
The agency confirmed that more details about the attack will be revealed later.
“And you thought Ukraine was easy? Ukraine is exceptional. Ukraine is unique. All the steamrollers of history have rolled over it. It has withstood every kind of trial. It is tempered by the highest degree. In today’s world, its value is beyond measure,” the SBU wrote, quoting Ukrainian poet Lina Kostenko.
They also vowed to continue to drive Russian forces out of Ukrainian territory.
“We will strike them (Russia) at sea, in the air, and on the ground. And if needed, we’ll get them from underground too,” the SBU said.

You are watching FPV (first-person-view) camera footage from Ukrainian quadcopter munition-carrying drones, concealed in and remotely launched from the roofs of sheds or cabins covertly delivered by truck to the perimeters of four Russian air bases, from the Arctic North to Siberia. These air bases host the long-range strategic bombers which carry out cruise-missile attacks on Ukraine. You can see the explosive-equipped drones planting themselves on Tu-95 Bear, Tu-22M Backfire and Tu-160 Blackjack bombers, as well as an A-50 Mainstay AWACS aircraft. The Ukrainians claim 13 of 41 targeted bombers destroyed and, as you can see, the position is not good. Russia can no longer manufacture these aircraft so they are irreplaceable, and even the damaged but surviving ones may never return to service.
As to why the Russians put those old truck tyres on parked bombers, apparently they think it confuses the target-recognition sensors of advanced long-range drones. But the Ukrainians used short-range simple camera-equipped drones, 117 of them, each individually 'flown' by a pilot at a covert command-and-control centre. (The Ukrainians claim it was inside Russia, next door to the local FSB office, and the FSB never knew, and the personnel were all safely exfiltrated to Ukraine after the strike. This may be disinformation and international media think the control centre was in Ukraine.)
