My read is it is clearly a personal expense that he tried to hide from his wife by running it through his real estate business. If Trump wasn't such a cheat, he would have simply declared it as income rather than a legal expense.

About 15% of the adult population is racist in the US and won't vote for a black person. There is also a segment that won't vote for women for President. Probably around 5% but could be as high as 10%. Its probably why Hillary Clinton lost to Trump (though Hillary was basically not popular with most people including Democrats). It could have been a factor in some swing states that cost Kamala as well.
About 25% of the population is conservative (right wing basically) for their own personal reasons. A lot of it is selfishness of rich people (wanting to reduce government spending and lower taxes so they can maintain and/or increase their wealth). A lot of it is big business stockholders who want to maintain their increase in wealth.
About 20% of the population is in the middle and shifts based on current circumstances. Its why Obama crushed McCain right after the recession during the George W Bush administration. Its why Biden beat Trump (because of his complete mishandling of the Covid pandemic). Its why Trump beat Kamala. The inflation post Covid pandemic left people spending a lot more than they had 4 years before and they blamed the Biden administration.
About 40% of the population is left of center. There are some radicals but most are not.
