THE BEAUTIFUL BUDGET
I don't think it's very beautiful, from what I've heard about it.
No need to increase the military budget, let alone a la
I wouldn't call it a conspiracy, but both parties are equally fine with massive debt. Just as both parties are equally fine with perpetual war. And both parties fine with enabling what I would identify as the single most evil organization in the country: the American Medical Association.
I guess I didn't make myself clear.
I was expressing my surprise that the GOP was supporting a bill with a large deficit-ceiling increase, which is inconsistent with their rhetoric on the subject.
I've known for years that neither party cares a whit about the debt.
In my lifetime the Democrats have cared more about providing care for people than any resulting debt increases.
In my lifetime Republicans have tried to reduce government spending with the exception of Defense spending. Until 2000 the party itself was all about eliminating the deficit. Since 1980 the Republicans have made it a goal to reduce taxes for both high earners and corporations. So George W Bush and Trump have both reduced taxes and had major deficits in each of their terms. George W Bush managed to cost the US 2 Trillion $'s by occupying Afghanistan. Both Trump and Bush had their terms end with financial disasters, which is really the only reason Obama and Biden were elected president.
The current budget if passed will work well for the wealthy and corporations. As of now it looks like people earning under $30,000 will have their taxes raised by 20%. The other issue is a huge cut for Medicaid which likely will cost millions of people health insurance. This is basically Trump's way of reducing Obamacare and Biden's increase in Medicaid recipients. In a study done prior to when Obamacare was passed, they looked at how people in MA which had 97% covered by health insurance (due to Romneycare) compared with other counties across the US that had similar demographics. It turned out that for every 800 people uninsured, 1 would die each year. So for every 1,000,000 people that are cut from Medicaid it will cost 1,250 lives each year. Kind of stunning for the Pro Life party. But then the Pro Life republican party also doesn't seem to care that 5 to 10 million people in the world die each year from air pollution.
THE GOP just needs to say this when asked about a balanced Budget

It was just the flu bro .
You probably forgot that the surplus happened under Clinton, but when cognress went from democratic in both chambers , to republican in both chambers. It was Gingrich that spearheaded a "no compromise" mandate to fix the deficit at all costs, with Clinton only agreeing after 2 very dramatic government shutdowns forced by republicans over the issue.Clinton couldn't do it with co
Trolly is well-educated and is very smart. I suspect he knows the backstory you detailed above, and I'm sure he realizes that the facts you just mentioned undercut his narrative.
I'm sure you realize that Lucio is just googling stuff to cherry pick data points that support his narrative and doesn't really know anything on the subject
It’s funny how Lucio says congress had all the power during Clinton ( so Clinton has no responsibility in reducing deficit , I guess veto didn’t exist then …) and was normal and yet for trump, using non stop executive orders without congress doing anything about it , alll good and normal .

I think Clinton did have a lot to do with reducing the deficit...after the Republicans took control of the Congress, including becoming a majority in the House for the first time in forty(!) years.
Clinton was a master at trying to make both sides happy.
By today's standards, Clinton would be a moderate Republican.
Clinton and the Dems were enormously unpopular in November 1994, which lead to the GOP 'takeover' of the Congress.

Budget is passed by congress. Congress was controlled by republicans when a budget was passed that fixed the deficit.
"cherry pick data points" lol ffs, why are you in perma bad faith?
btw the "contract with americans" is something that had huge repercussions in italy, because a little later Berlusconi won elections (after 7 years in opposition) with the "contract with italians" so the subject was very well covered in Italy as well at the time.

I don't know why you can't read but i have written several times that congress has the power to remove the tariff shenanigans from Trump hands (and the senate actually passed a law that would achieve that, but the house has no intention to).
So yes congress is responsible for abdicating it's role on the tariffs issue right now, a role that i repeatedly and clearly stated the constitution gives to congress exclusively (and so under non-delegation, it was illegal to give to POTUS).
Clinton DID VETO THE BUDGET SEVERAL TIMES in 95-96, which caused the shutdowns i explicitly mentioned in the post above ffs.
Just so weird how the party of fiscal responsibility exploded the deficit when they took control of all three branches of government! You'd expect exactly the opposite to happen, it's a great mystery.

I'll let a jury of our peers determine who is more consistently bad faith
Shockingly the secret to Clintons sauce was raising taxes and cutting military spending
Well russia is a good friend of the US right ?
So why raise defense spending now ?
Especially since all nato members will increase spending helping the US to cut spending for nato right ?
Turns out republicans are really good at telling everyone how bad the democrats govern, but really bad at governing themselves. But we knew that.
They are the same team out to F us all. How people don't see that is beyond me. Trump and Hillary party together. Remember Jail Hillary ? Ofc he forgot all about that just a ploy to help him win

You need to look more to your socialist friends in China and elsewhere when you want to assign blame for people dying from air pollution.
Granted of course if you want to get into the weeds of it they have approval from the US, both Democrat and republican party to do whatever they want.

Ever heard of China? it's incredibly more powerful than the USSR was at it's peak, and more dangerous because it reduced/removed some of the worst elements of marxism, so it is far richer than the USSR ever was.

And China is not only not expansionist, its entire economy is dependent upon free trade, much like ours. So any war, with the US, or even with little Taiwan, would close the South China Sea to trade for years and plunge their economy into a depression.
China’s leadership is an authoritarian regime trying to hang on to power (much like our good “friend” Russia). They are unlikely to risk it all by invading Taiwan for little economic or military benefit. Even if so, the proper method of defending Taiwan is with an allied force including 3 of the 7 most powerful militaries in the world, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea, all of which have far more reason to fear China than us.
There is no reason to increase defense spending, it needs to be slashed substantially. We have the most powerful navy in history, with more carrier tonnage than the entire rest of world combined.
We do not need to bleed our national wealth to defend the Persian gulf. Again, the Persian gulf countries that have the most vested interest in free passage are wealthy enough to afford their own defense, or to pay us for supplying ours. They are also religious autocracies with terrible human rights records, but get free passes because they fund ex president’s foundations and offer current presidents free Air Force one replacements. It’s a great trick when spending a few hundred million a year in bribes, er “gifts” gets you nearly $100B a year in free military protection services, paid for by US taxpayers.
We also no longer need to station troops or Air Force wings in Europe. They laughed at us for decades when we asked them to pay a reasonable share of their defense costs, now they are terrified having the midget king at their door trying to rebuild the last Russian empire. They need to provide the first line of defense, we can send troops only if and when Russia moves deeper into Central Europe.
It’s far cheaper to keep sending Ukraine the 40 year old surplus Abrams, Bradleys, Javelins, and F-16s from storage that are all obsolete and worthless to our military, but devastating to Russias best.
Our greatest military strength (outside the worlds most powerful nuclear force) is the largest GDP in the world. Excess military spending has bled it continuously for 70 years defending the free world. It was necessary during the Cold War, but it’s over and we won. Now free loaders like Europe and the Middle East continue to bleed us despite being wealthy now.
It’s essentially a transfer of 1% of the wealth of the US annually to our “allies”, which has made them richer and us poorer. If the US economic growth rate was 1% lower the last century US per capital income would be on par with Mexico.
That’s where we are heading if we don’t stop playing world policeman running the most economically disastrous empire in world history. Empires throughout history (such as Roman and British) brought the wealth of the world to their people. The American Empire is the first to reverse the practice.
