The Food Thread
I too had pork belly last night
"Quite a few people have accused me of arrogance, but they were all wrong and now let me tell you why I'm smarter than all of them". Lol Deuces, always and forever.
From NYC? Not so sure, but in NYC yeah I've encountered quite a few people who have made passing, disapproving comments about foreign languages being spoken around them or in certain places.I've been going to NYC quite often over the years to visit friends and family. So I've met a lot of their friends and associates and I've heard them and people in public places in NYC compla
I've lived in NYC for thirty years, and I'm calling complete bullshit on this. I obviously don't know your friends and family and their associates, but the behavior that you describe is extremely uncommon.
One of the smartest people I know, a college buddy who climbed all the way from quant to a VP before 40.
Based on your description of this guy as a quant, and your statement that had he made it to "VP" before 40, I assume that he worked at some investment bank.
Being a VP at an investment bank before the age of 40 means nothing. VP isn't at all high up the food chain at an investment bank. In fact, if he was only a VP by his late 30s, he was not a highly regarded employee.

I agree this is bullshit. At most of the foreign restaurants I go to along the east coast, patrons learn to say simple things such as hello, thank you, how much and beer please. I never hear bitching about language barriers and actually hear people trying to learn terms in the foreign language.

1. Even among the wealthy, NYC leans very liberal.
2. The conservatives of NYC would mostly be RINO for MAGAs
3. Nobody thatβs lived in NYC for more than a few months is fearful of foreign languages
I was expecting this to be the "food prices are outrageous" thread.
Well let me tell you, food prices are outrageous. I just came back from the grocery store. It is a bad joke seeing signs that say, "everyday low price" on items like $5.50 for 48 ounces of oranges juice. And I was trying to quit coffee and looked at the price of green tea and was like, "what the ****?!" I don't know if that one is tariff related, but it is green damn tea.

Energy is another sector where the "smart" people go, people who study lists of vocab words for their ACTs and seek to maximize their income by being smart. They go into areas where the places they work have a built-in advantage, not really competing on an equal basis. I really have no idea how big a deal being a VP in different industries. I know this guy recently got a bonus that is more than I've ever made in a year.
I think you're like him in that your guy's thing is to learn and demonstrate. If you're too good at that I think, perhaps, you are too easy to propagandize. You are so primed to learn and apply as your main focus that you become controllable via the sources of education i.e. the corporate owned news outlets. There is a Tracy Flick element to the type of person you are and it ensures you won't actually rebel because to do so is to rebel against your own nature, which is to perform at a high level and get the better rewards. Maybe you would rebel if the rewards were cut off? Then you would look at the Ukraine situation and analyze it better than me, but with a clear view unencumbered by elite thought control implemented through their behavioral conditioning of you, seeing that it is obvious Russia is acting in self defense.
But I don't think this system functions without hijacking the brains of the better learners and indoctrinating them thoroughly. So I don't think the creeping degradation is going to touch the PMC unless it is totally out of elite control.

The wealthy might be referred to as "liberals" in the sense that Reagan was a "liberal" in that they believe in the liberation of capital.
I'm talking about Manhattan when I say NCY, not Brooklyn. The city likes to vote Democrat but the elites aren't progressive. They elected Adams as mayor ffs. The income and wealth inequality is beyond shocking. Conservative isn't defined by what party your vote for but it is decided by your political values. NYC is the ahole of capitalism and it is full of conservatives whether they ritualistically vote for dems or not.
I am very much talking about Manhattan. There is like 8 times as many registered Dems in Manhattan as there are registered Republicans.
The “conservative” wealthy enclaves you’re looking for are Staten Island and parts of Long Island… and even some ethnic pockets in the outer boroughs. Manhattan itself is overwhelmingly liberal. It’s liberal enough that some conservatives choose to stay in the closet.
What is throwing you off is although Manhattan is overwhelmingly liberal on social issues (LGBTQ equality, affirmative action, immigration, climate change etc.), it is a purplish shade of blue when it comes to fiscal policy in the higher income brackets. But that’s not unique to Manhattan… people tend to abandon extreme fiscal positions as their income rises.

Everyone who lives in NYC is telling you that you are dead wrong about 3. I'm not sure why you are so certain that you are correct.
Arguing 1 and 2 with you is pointless because you are going to define liberal and conservative in whatever way is required to maintain your position. In other words, when I tell you that Mamdani carried Manhattan (which he did), I'm sure your response will be that Mamdani is a conservative.
French technically. Miami
I don't enjoy cooking, but I also spend way too much money on really shitty food, so I gave HelloFresh a try and really like it.
I've also wasted hundreds of dollars on food I didn't cook because I was too lazy, which kind of defeats the purpose.
Anyways, got the new order in and had a Turkey Chili and a Sausage Rigatoni left over from the previous week so combined them into Turkey and Sausage chilli with a bunch of veggies and it turned out really delicious

Life is too short to eat shitty food. Just get in the habit of cooking it, or freeze it if you can't eat it in time.
Freezing stuff would be an alpha move
I have a garage freezer and the only two things I freeze but things I consistently use to freeze is strawberries and fish. About once a month a make a moderate driving journey that goes by a fruit stand in California where I buy strawberries that taste far better than anything at the grocery store that is mins away. I didnt realize how long they'd last if I properly froze them.
The other is fish when I go fishing.
Steak cooked from frozen is elite. Vitamixed frozen fruit+ veggies you don’t like too
Coordi, get in the habit of batch cooking a couple cups of beans and rice once per week. Either is an easy base for a bunch of different meals and both freeze well. You can also just eat beans and rice if you're feeling lazy. Throw in some frozen veggies and you're in decent shape with minimal cooking time/effort.
I wanted to "meal prep" to make it through at least a few days if not the whole week. Funny enough, some of the best meal prep YouTube videos I watched were from bodybuilders. Those bros need their meals on point nutrition wise and have enough other crap to worry about time wise that they meal prep like pros.

I disagree with the rice and beans recommendation. Cooked rice freezes poorly imo. Things like pasta sauce, curry paste, stews, other the other hand, freeze very well. If I lived alone and was very busy, or if I was a single parent, I would cook things like pasta sauce, curry pastes, stews in large quantities on the weekends and portion it out in meal sized freezer bags, Then I would cook things like rice, pasta, etc., on a daily basis as needed because that takes minimal effort. I would pair that stuff with roasted vegetables, which require minimal effort to cut and throw in the oven on a sheet pan with olive oil.

I wholeheartedly disagree with your disagreement.
How are you storing your rice in the freezer? It freezes quite well for me. Heat it up in the microwave for a minute or two and it's perfectly palatable. Beans freeze very well. Don't freeze rice and beans together in the same container.
Obviously cooking it fresh is going to be better, but I figured Coordi would be most interested in the easiest/quickest home cooking methods. Oven roasted veggies are great and something I also do weekly.
