Trump missed a fantastic opportunity to rid the world of the Iranian threat. He looks quite foolish rushing into signing this new agreement. He has also screwed the Israelis. Israel is now in the process of weaning off the American military support. Good for them.

To be fair, there weren't many insightful comments on the war even before we started discussing various disgusting things some folks in this thread do to women.

On the war..... i never thought it should have started, and I thought Israel kind of lured Trump into this.
But now that it has started, it seems pretty clear that Iran is stalling and jerking the US around. If they truly thought this deal was great they would ensure that nothing they did would derail it. But that is not happening. They counter everything the US says with "no that is not true," and they attacked a ship with one or more drones.
Imo this is what the US has to do. The next single act of aggression by Iran should be followed by a response that is totally disproportionate. Attack as many ballistic sites as possible, as many radar or defense sites as possible, as many other strategic sites as possible. And then tell Iran that any deviation from the path they are on towards a final agreement, and the whole deal is off.
I say this because Iran seems to have no interest agreeing to any deal, and the quicker the US finds that out the better. And the best way to find out is to threaten your leverage and power and see what the response is.
What the US decides to do when they come to that realization is a whole new problem, but Trump et al should stop pretending that they are making progress towards anything lasting or meaningful. As some point soon the message needs to be that there is no hope for an Iran deal, no matter how much the US sweetens the pot.
I think many people believe that this should have happened already, and the reason it has not is that Trump only has two plans after it does, and they are both bad. One, would be to just leave the area and let Iran control the strait. Two, would be to have a full out war with Iran and have the US secure and hold the strait, and all the associated costs (including lives) that goes with that.

This “proportionate” response stuff is stupid. Trump knows he screwed up and is just trying to minimize the damage at this point.
I do believe that going to war was correct. The problem occurred when Trump agreed to a ceasefire. They should have continued the onslaught until Iran cried uncle and was ready to sign a good deal. Also, the closing of Hormuz should have been dealt with swiftly and harshly. In reality it should have been anticipated and a fleet should have been ready for an immediate blockade.
No matter what happens Trump will declare victory. His narcissism is a legit threat to our country.

the Quisling Vichy Lebanese govt attempting to override the MOU and formally agreeing to allow Israel to remain on Lebanese soil is probably the most consequential. I admire the restraint Hezbollah has shown and hopefully they keep their weapons firing at Israel and not traitorous comprador regime, even though those guys definitely deserve it.

It’s amazing how much you post about this topic yet be so under educated on it.
I think just leave and let the gulf states and other interested parties try to fix it os the way to go. Regardless from the US perspective the next administration is going to be left with a mess and staying isn't going to change that.
