Why Is The Tariff Issue Controversial?

Why Is The Tariff Issue Controversial?

Setting aside that it could depend on the size of the tariff and the product involved, if you stick to one proposal at a time why is there such a debate about each one of them? If you put a 50% tariff on widgets from Babylon it would seem to result in obvious results. Yet there is this big debate, Are people disagreeing about what the results would be or are they disagreeing not about the results. but rather about whether we want those results?

Just answer this, please. If people were better off under Trump, why didn't they keep voting for his policies? Instead they left in droves

Trump supporters didn't leave in droves. Every election since 2016 saw an increase in voters for him by the millions. The same cannot be said about Democrats as shown below. The largest drop in number of votes was by Democrats between 2020 and 2024.

Trump:
2016 - 62.9M
2020 - 74.2M
2024 - 76.9M

Hillary:
2016 - 65.8M

Biden:
2020 - 81.2 M

Harris:
2024 - 74.4M

Now please share your evidence to the contrary so we can discuss.

Trump did an unprecedented thing that no economist and investor in the markets understand .
Creating around 4 trillions of debt up to end of 2019 with a record low unemployment, no inflation , no recession , extremely low interest rates , record high stock market at the time etc …

And people wonder wh

Treasury department previously released figures showing debt growing faster under Biden. We also cant ignore the role COVID played during both presidencies and the impact it had on debt during those years. Both parties are guilty of over spending and devaluing the dollar.

People don't believe Biden is bad because they don't understand the economy. It's because they're feeling it directly in their bank account and he's telling them it's not true. You can't just tell people the economy is good. You can't just show them a chart and hope they get it. People need to feel it first hand, and under Trump they did, which is why theyre now coming back for more.

I wasn't aware Harris ran in 2020 so it's already a moot comparaison.
Voter turnouts, voting-age population and voting-eligible population also seem not to matter for you.

Now I ask again why did Biden get elected if Trump was such a wonder?

yes people needed to fell it first hand...
no inflation under trump duh...
doesnt mean trump did better...
inflation was a freakn worldwide phenomenon, its nothing special in the US..
hence the point that massive amount of people know nothing about the economy.

What do you mean ask again? You didn't ask that in the first place. You asked why Trump supporters didn't keep voting for his policies, instead leaving in droves. I demonstrated with factual numbers they increaseingly voted for his policies and did not leave in droves.

These voting categories don't seem to matter to you either because you haven't shared any data about them to discuss.

Harris was Bidens VP on the 2020 ticket ...I guess now you know. Lol

Oh my you are dense.
I guess I have to eli5 it to you, sigh...

My first post was tongue in cheek , I found it funny to copy paste your post changing one name, hinting at why did Trump not get reelected if his policies were so awesome.

I realised you didn't get it and hinted (lol hint ) at it again by literally writing the word humor in my reply.
It was prolly stupid but I didn't think it would trigger this response.
Then again seeing pizza discussions can go on pages , I shouldn't ever be that cryptic.

I didn't post the numbers, didn't think it would matter.
Here are some for you stats lovers:

2016
https://election.lab.ufl.edu/voter-turno...

2020
https://election.lab.ufl.edu/voter-turno...

Just looking at these shows more people voted in 2020 (about 20M), more people were eligible to vote (about 10M) , and also the turnout rate was 6% higher than 2016.
Now for 2024, it looks like less turnout rate so far (by 3%).

What it means I have no idea.

If he enacts his tariffs and does mass deportation then inflation will be double digits

It will also be the poor and middle class that get hurt the most

Wow, that's really funny stuff. Boy, do I feel stupid for not picking up on such a knee slapper. Youre so likeable online, you must be the life of every party you go to. Thank you for gifting us peasants with your presence today, your Majesty. Please tell us, how do you keep that stable of eager models at bay long enough to insult people from your computer???

Yeah, I guess asking you to support your claim makes me a "stats lover." Lol. You're right, you should just continue to throw out blanket statements and hope nobody questions them.

You're obviously more interested in playing keyboard warrior than challengeing each other's positions. So, I won't waste my time. Just remember, no matter what you type online, it will never change the fact that your team lost and my team won. Enjoy the next four years!

Wins popular vote as Republican for first time since 1980s.

George W bush 2004 election vs John Kerry
