The scenario I fear:

School is neutral (makes sense he wasn’t worried about cluing it)

Our last 3 don’t have a “hard hit” image for all 3 so we are between stretchy 3rd or school and we go school and it’s neutral…or go stretchy 3rd and it’s school

They need 5 so prolly don’t win next turn but the one after so our next turn is final turn for the win or the loss

I prefer clarity on final turn

We have no other backups either, so guessing it now doesn't really help us that much, if at all. Either we get clued 2 words next turn and guess school, or we get clued 3 words and guess those.

That said it’s a close call at 5 so if you wanna pass I won’t be that bothered

Like, I agree with you that it can be hard to clue 3 words hard sometimes, but also it's usually really easy to clue only 2 words. It should be evident what he's going for.
