Yeah, dog head Egyptian god that watches over mummies and the afterlife
So they’ll be buried with statuses of Anubis everywhere
Chest - guarding chests like treasure chests or chest holding mummy
Face - human body with face of a dog
River - Nile, Styx; prolly stretchy
Shell - statues of Anubis are like shells?
Smuggler - they often try to rob tombs/pyramids and Anubis watches over mummy so maybe
St Patrick - another religious figure

Smuggler seems okayish. I think face or St Patrick has to be one of the words (or both), otherwise the clue is just tomb or something. Slight lean towards Patrick.

But feels like they hold a staff, not a sword

I like Face quite a bit after the two obvious ones.
I think I like River more than both of you, but I'll agree it's down the list at best.
