I was thinking of flying fish but you use a fly for fishing if don’t use live bait

I'm fairly familiar. I've never actually played but used to listen to Nerd Poker (love that name) which is a podcast where a bunch of comedians play D&D.

I have a tendency to suggest figure in spots like this. It usually doesn't have great results, but figure is such a pain to clue for.

It really is. My inclusion here has to do with the fact that dnd is all about characters and also it's not uncommon for a dungeon master to say something like "a shadowy figure appears in the doorway" or something like that.
