SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread
In this thread, we will play a new word game called Sides. It's somewhat similar to codenames, but cooperative and different.
Sign up with /in below if you want to play.
In this game, a target word will be randed as will a row of 7 cards that have letters on them (most 1 letter, some 2/3/4 letters).
2 people will be the guessers and everyone else will be able to give a clue.
The clue given must start with the letter on either the first or last card (the 'sides' of the row).
We discuss as a team who will give the clue with open discussion in the thread such as "I have a 7 letter word starting with a C"
Once there is some agreement on who gives the clue, that person will bold the clue they want to give in the thread.
The two guessers will then discuss in the thread and bold their guess. If it's correct, we move on to the next guessers and the next word. If wrong, then the clue givers post some info like "you are warm" or "you are about 30% there" etc to give directional info on how on track/off track their guess is.
Then they discuss and give another clue. But the person who bolded a clue cannot give another clue for the same word until everyone on the cluing side has clued a word (if we take that long to get the word), so one person can't hog the cluing.
Clues have to be one word, or an acronym, etc like in codenames; they can be hyphenated words
We can also give some info on how the clues relate to each other, or even say a clue is a 0 clue, so the opposite of what cluing for (e.g., clue 'colorful' as an opposite clue because the word is zebra)
I'll provide more details and examples in the thread in the morning, but this should be enough info for you to /in and join so we can play.

person
Sigh
baker
actual game rules has actor=actress and even UFO = flying saucer
but we decided here to do exact only, which makes sense to increase difficulty for us, but yeah, sigh here
p10 was pat-a-cake (pat-a-cake, baker's man, bake me a cake as fast as you can)
but p9 patissier is what I would have clued here had ya'll gone cream or whatever to let you know it was baker, not bakery
Yeah, it was tue fact you had p10>p9 that sold bakery over baker for me.
yeah with bakery I woulda mentioned plural words
at least e6/e7, p3/p4 etc.
but you had a banger p10 for bakery so I don't blame you
Round 15:
Cards used: 20
Guessers: bolt/ibd
The Board:
A | RG | M | JOVW | P | DL
The target word:
I've sent it to pogcrazy94, d1iabol1cal, doctor zeus, amazingervin
NOTE: These are the last 6 cards in the game
well g5 is a lock but don't wanna use 2 cards
r7 gets in the domain
d6 may get it but could go wrong
a5 is a one shot, but likely a shadowfax
A9 average.
G5 a lock
Is d4/d8 stupid? I quite like it....
my favorite line is a5 -> g5
decent chance they've heard of a5 and then get it; if not, g5 is a lock
if we go d4/d8 or other words then if they don't get it we are in trouble, so I think unlocking g with a decent a makes sense
Hnmm i dont know a5 give me a bit
Do you know a9?
I agree with the a5 plan. It's worth the risk if any other way will probably take 2 turns anyway, and it's not a huge shadowfax imo.
Yeah I know a9; it’s not bad but likely gets a different guess
Ok do it pending amazing ae ideas
They may be able to deduce g5/r7 with a9 tho, so maybe not a bad direction to go.
Ervin and pogcrazy both gotta weigh in before we decide
I'm fine with either A5/G5 or A9/G5 slight preference for A5
Aw man I feel we should count that last one as 1 idk...tbh I even thought the target was bakery why I was so enthusiastic about patisserie, would have taken some time to perhaps think of patissier and also just some proper noun baker names
Idk shuffle that letter back in somewhere imo but maybe the idea is different enough...idk tho feels like they got it
Instant thought was L7, it can go a lot of ways but not really, maybe we capitalize it idk could leave it lower too
Yeah I get it and by the rules in the game you prolly count it
But we are pretty good at this and playing exact word only makes it simpler as well as we don’t have to worry about deciding if an answer is close enough or not
Baker is a person and bakery a place so different enough anyway even if they share 5 letters
Yeah I thought of L7 also; it’s an option, but I really prefer A because G is the only guarantee
Any DL that misses isn’t really recoverable
But there are two good a choices and they are backed up by lock g5
I didn't know this word a5, there's an a6 way to do it too right? Same root kinda I've never heard of this but lots of things I don't know
a5 and hope they know this shadowfaxy thing is prob the route, tho idk if people like L7 I don't know what I would think in guessers spot if I got that clue. And just to clarify it's not L7 the boring thing that would lead them totally astray but like ... L7 !!!
Yea ok so you know it, idk...like it's weird as a guesser but you think you would get it with that clue? Obv at first it's wtf but I think both of them would know it...?
