SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread
In this thread, we will play a new word game called Sides. It's somewhat similar to codenames, but cooperative and different.
Sign up with /in below if you want to play.
In this game, a target word will be randed as will a row of 7 cards that have letters on them (most 1 letter, some 2/3/4 letters).
2 people will be the guessers and everyone else will be able to give a clue.
The clue given must start with the letter on either the first or last card (the 'sides' of the row).
We discuss as a team who will give the clue with open discussion in the thread such as "I have a 7 letter word starting with a C"
Once there is some agreement on who gives the clue, that person will bold the clue they want to give in the thread.
The two guessers will then discuss in the thread and bold their guess. If it's correct, we move on to the next guessers and the next word. If wrong, then the clue givers post some info like "you are warm" or "you are about 30% there" etc to give directional info on how on track/off track their guess is.
Then they discuss and give another clue. But the person who bolded a clue cannot give another clue for the same word until everyone on the cluing side has clued a word (if we take that long to get the word), so one person can't hog the cluing.
Clues have to be one word, or an acronym, etc like in codenames; they can be hyphenated words
We can also give some info on how the clues relate to each other, or even say a clue is a 0 clue, so the opposite of what cluing for (e.g., clue 'colorful' as an opposite clue because the word is zebra)
I'll provide more details and examples in the thread in the morning, but this should be enough info for you to /in and join so we can play.

Lol yea wow I wasn't expecting some sitcom to do with a rickshaw
Like wtf
Home improvement? How could these relate?
If this was clue 1, I'd be thinking cart or wagon or something. Maybe it still is something like that, but that sitcom clue has totally thrown me.
Yea I have no idea what some kinda rinkedy dink wheelbarrow has to do with a sitcom
Idk besides home improvement. Cart = cartman = South Park? Like no way. There's no A5 for Allen tho so no HI either
I'm not sure where to go here
I mean there's stuff like splinter and shed for wood type stuff
Still really lost wow, it's like 2 completely opposite domains
I say we just disregard sitcom and pretend like rickshaw is the only clue. Remember that everybody was pretty much of the opinion that rickshaw was a lock and nobody else knew the s6 (bolt even said he didn't expect anyone to know it).
I still think it's probably something like cart or wagon, but I don't have time to work out other clues right now. I'll come back to it tomorrow.
So I had a bit of an epiphany while I was falling asleep last night. I was too hung up on what they look like, and not what they're used for. The answer is taxi. We can say taxicab to hedge a little, but it's gotta be that.
What on earth does that have to do w sitcom lol
I'm good to fire that, I'm still at a total loss so absolutely good with that logic
Taxi is a famous sitcom from the 70s. Danny DeVito, Andy Kaufman, Christopher Lloyd, etc...
taxicab
👍
nice work!
it was taxi
rickshaw was my r8 opposite lol
Phew. Was totally confused at first, but obviously once I thought of taxi it all made sense.
I think rideshare would've got us there quicker, but good clues.
D1iab GOAT
my s6 opposite was "subway"
In retrospect I should have capitalized "Sitcom". Great work, D1!
Yeah the unfortunate thing was we used c last round bc cab woulda been slam dunk 2 second round
We do have a company called Americab in Atlanta so technically we coulda gotten this with one clue but I didn’t think using a local company would be kosher bc then too easy for lots of words to do that. Uber or Lyft or Checker seems fine but a local company seems a bridge too far
WOOOOT! Great job D1 I woulda been here for quite a long time haha
Round 9:
Cards used: 10
Guessers: ervin/ibd
The Board:
IH | P | JOVW | M | EF | T | A
The target word:
I've pmed it to d1/bolt/filthy/zeus
opposite a10 is pretty good
h9 is ok
p7 if we get there
I really like i9 as a different meaning for this; I think it's most likely to get it in one shot
The a10 isn't bad. If it misses are there any good t words though?
There's a pretty good i3 which may get it. If the i9 is what I think it is, then it may hit a few things imo.
I think i9 gets them thinking of the right word or few words, which could be a challenge this round otherwise
p7 for the other definition if i9 fails will make it a lock together
Do you know the i3 I'm thinking of?
