POG PUB 2024: A New Year, A New Thread, A New You
It was an honor to spend 2o23 with yall. And I look forward to spending 2o24 here too.
Happy New Year!
The panic buying is because the union of dockworkers was on strike so no cargo is being unloaded on the east coast. They just made an agreement last night.
Almost all TP is of course produced domestically so this makes no sense but this is America we just do things.
pooping without a bidet is disgusting.
if you're gonna live in a world destroyed by genocide and colonization, you might as well at least use a bidet!
people panic bought TP cuz of the looming dock worker strike. they didn't realize that TP was produced domestically. and then the strike was settled anyway
The very first item my son bought after moving to an apartment in Maryland is a bidet.
is he still trying to walk everywhere?
Looking for someone to join the 3v3 codenames game. Fun for the whole family!
What the hell is codenames?
Two teams, red and blue. A list of words is given and certain words are assigned red, blue, or neutral with one word being the “assassin,” which ends the game immediately if chosen.
A person on each team (the spymaster) has full view of the list and must clue a single word to their team to get them to choose their team’s words. With the clue, the spymaster also indicates how many words on the list relate to the clue.
Once a team clears all of their words or the assassin is hit, the game is over.
I've slept 3 hours in the last 50.
It's like I'm in my early 20s again
aye
Willi sighting!
Sup Willi!
First time using internet since Helene. Any movie download recommendations while I have it?
TBob!!!! I've been thinking of you. I hope the situation is improving.
♥
Thanks, Mark. It's been slowly improving where I am. Easier to get supplies, and local neighborhoods are really helping each other out. Still hoping for power soon, spending most of the day doing crosswords and acquiring water.
good luck tbob! hope everything is ok

Do you have access to a generator? Anywhere to charge your phone, laptops, etc? How are you cooking?
Best wishes!!!!
I actually did manage to borrow a generator to run our well, but the wiring confuses me so I didn't hook it up. It's on 220 power, but only has two wires running to it instead of 4... I've never seen that. Found some info about that configuration online, but figured now isn't the time to experiment with making cables. Anybody ever seen that, or have advice?
Other than that, I charge a large solar power bank off the generator and then devices off that. Laptops arent too useful without internet, but I do charge them just to have emergency battery available. Several people in my community have also opened up charging stations on their porch. The best one has a trampoline they let us use while charging.
Cooking off a single burner propane camp stove. Have also used the smoker, and will do so more if I can find charcoal. Found out yesterday that the bridge by me is not destroyed. Was closed for 10 days but just opened up. Some of the worst damage in Asheville is down there, between half a mile and 2 miles from my home. But at least with the bridge open I can get to my partner's house without having to double the distance out of the way. She's doing ok as well, we've been leaning on each other a lot. Grilled a pizza the other day...
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Glad you didn't drown
Errr. Glad you're ok!
maybe I don't fully understand/appreciate the downsides of the storm/damage, but grilling pizza with your partner sounds great!
Glad you are okay, tbob.
Drove through Ohio through the remnants of Helene last Friday and that was plenty bad enough. All the hotels in the western part of Virginia that had power were full, lots of lineworkers coming in for storm relief and lots of people with no power at home.
Anyone wanna play picture codenames? Need a player to fill

Speaking just about the city of Asheville within a few miles of my house, it destroyed one of the most 'interesting' and revenue generating areas of town, pretty much everything right on the river including my personal favorite music venue, countless art studios (in old warehouses along the river), two of our parks (including th largest), about 4 miles of Greenway that was built up over the last four years, flooded the bottom units of one our largest low income housing neighborhoods.
My closest friends and I got extremely lucky. But towns all around have been irreversibly changed. Like where you can't just build back the road where it used to be, because the land under it for miles washed away in the river, pushing the banks back. Chimney Rock had an entire stretch of their 'strip' fall into the water like this. From photos I've seen it doesn't even seem like you could rebuild a road at all into that area.
On the positive side, it will be interesting to get back out in the mountains to see how things have changed, help out rebuilding trails and such. They've closed the forests until 10/31 ATM. Yes they can close the forests, I don't make the rules
wow, that's incredible devastation. heartbreaking :(
it's crazy how powerful nature is
