POG Politics Thread Version 3
Come on in! Since Dustin is taking his ball and going home, it's time to start a new politics thread.
phony christians are
not coincidentally
phony patriots
In which decision does she say natives can't have sovereignty?I looked up the discovery doctrine, and found RBG in City of Sherrill v. Oneida Indian Nation of N. Y., 544 U.S. 197 (2005) writing that the Oneidas cannot in 1998 absolve themselves of property taxes based upon a claim of land deprivation occurring in 1805. In that decision, she explicitly upholds the below case ad
"She wrote the majority opinion, saying the court must prevent 'the Tribe rekindling the embers of sovereignty that long ago grew cold.'"
that's from the case you're talking about.
she also had 0 black clerks iirc. out of like hundreds of clerks?
also gave her seat to trump lol
also was pro eugenics.
rbg tore down herself. I didn't do it. she's a POS, as are all supreme court justices.
the only thing construable as "pro-eugenics" that I see was her speculation that the Roe decision was at the time (decades before she joined the court) partially motivated by population control wrt poors
is there something else?
isn't population control of poors enough? lmao
remember when Dems used to play at impeaching trump?
what was that for again? I can't even remember
but kidnapping Maduro should be impeachable. profiting billions from running the govt should do it too. invading CA and minnesota should be impeachable.
also heard a funny theory that china is bribing trump to invade Greenland, or at least talk about it. china is profits from bad relations between Europe and usa
the Tribe rekindling the embers of sovereignty that long ago grew cold
the issue in the case wasn't that they wanted sovereignty(.), it's that they were claiming a sovereignty exemption over land that they sold 150+ years prior
Generations have passed during which non-Indians have owned and developed the area that once composed the Tribe’s historic reservation. And at least since the middle years of the 19th century, most of the Oneidas have resided elsewhere. Given the longstanding, distinctly non-Indian character of the area and its inhabitants, the regulatory authority constantly exercised by New York State and its counties and towns, and the Oneidas’ long delay in seeking judicial relief against parties other than the United States, we hold that the Tribe cannot unilaterally revive its ancient sovereignty, in whole or in part, over the parcels at issue. The Oneidas long ago relinquished the reins of government and cannot regain them through open-market purchases from current titleholders.
The case arose from the tribe repurchasing the lands and arguing that they shouldn't have to pay taxes on them because of their ancestral claim.
RBG wasn't saying that they shouldn't have any (national) sovereignty, only that they can't claim "ancestral sovereignty" over lands that they sold generations ago, and had been subsequently developed, to avoid paying taxes on it.
One time it was for pressuring Zelensky to come up with dirt on Hunter Biden, of all things.
😆
Buddy Rich is great at playing the drums and never said anything racist afaik but he ran a big band jazz group for 40 years and never hired a black guy? You know what's up.
there was a great t shirt of Clinton with his saxophone, and it said "Clinton kills the blues"
she didn't express it as her opinion
she speculated that it was one of the motivations behind the decision at the time - when she was not on the court
hopefully this is the last time I ever engage with you, as you are right now. maybe you'll grow and change, but I doubt it. I suspect you enjoy just being contrary, and have no interest in actual dialogue and maybe learning something. it's been a pattern with you.
someone(rbg) who uses language like "the court must prevent them reigniting the embers of sovereignty that have long ago grown cold" sitting on the supreme court of a nation that committed genocide against these people for centuries, and is sitting on their land.... I mean... wtf is wrong with you bro? that is not morally defensible, no matter whatever nuance of the specific situation.
oh and she happens to have no black clerks. oh and she happened to say our population would be better off if poor people didn't reproduce... and she happened to be on the supreme court of an empire dropping nukes, overthrowing govt after govt, crushing democracy all over the world, committing war crimes while she was on the bench
and she was on deaths doorstep for years, and refused to give up her seat.
like that's really someone you want to defend.
RBG is regarded as a hero by several women I know for her women's liberation efforts. If she's expressed eugenicist or genocidal attitudes, I want to be sure I'm aware of them when forming her total image. When I see that the basis for the claim is off, I put it back up to see if there's something else or that I'm missing/misreading.
I don't enjoy being contrary; it constantly gets me into trouble. I just have to really feel something to go with it, if that makes sense.
I know that topic is really sensitive and personal to you, and I'm sorry for being callous in discussing it. I think maybe in the future I just won't. Sorry, again.
Any good RBG did is completely negated and then some for selfishly staying on the job for too long. Amy Coney Barrett and the death of Roe v Wade is her legacy.
so nearly twice as many women as men are having kids?
I would love to find a strong Nordic woman who will massage me as hard as they massaged that data.
would be funny if trump invaded Iceland instead of Greenland cuz he got the name wrong
also lol at how Denmark is like "no! WE invaded there! that's our land we stole! totally unfair of you to take it!"
Why is there a Wookie staring at Karoline Leavitt?
idk why anyone would ever engage with someone's anonymous alt account - if you want to have a conversation with me do under your main or at least tell us which old account you posted under
could you imagine someone texting you repeatedly, wanting to have intimate conversations with you - meanwhile they steadfastly refuse to say who they are and you are ok with that dynamic and continue to talk to them?
Rick,
On a foum like this, I don't have a problem with it.
But with that said, my view is that Wearwolf is not an alt and has tons of interesting thoughts and a great contributer.
They are who they are in their hundreds of interactions in this thread. It's not an issue.
Better them than one of the idiots from all the other politics threads who I don't talk to because they aren't worth talking to.
Those threads make everyone dumber and hate each other. We don't roll like that.
