I think I like the cold weather connections (degree/pine) over the other options.

Well let's assume we want a cold-weather clue that also hits a dog thing. So you clue something that's obviously a cold-weather dog breed.

I don’t think I’d go as far as this being lab + three cold weather words. If that were the case, then why not just husky? Same goes for it probably not just being three dog words + one cold weather word.

I liked house at first glance (dog house), but that takes me back to why not just husky?
Is their full breed name Alaskan malamute, or am I making that up? If so, pine seems to work, yeah? Or am I also making up that Alaska has a lot of pines?
