our makeup list:
press
copper
pupil
pupil is out; it's either 1 rummy word + press + copper or 2 rummy words + copper
rummy is a card game, so card seems a lock
diamond is a suit and you either lay down sets of the same value or runs of the same suit (e.g., diamond)
however, if it was diamond seems like Spades or suited or other words than rummy would come to mind for this 2 word combo
but then again is rummy the word that you choose to hit exactly card? he wants to make sure we know if this is 1+ or 2+
gonna take fresh look in a few
I think it's card and point, then copper as the makeup.
Rummy is a game where you get points, so it explains the fairly odd clue choice. Like you say, there are better options for card + diamond or just card
Thinking back to the bar clue - do point and card make sense for it? Unless he was cluing loch ness and/or platypus, then the remaining words have to work with bar
I could see bar -> point from the Olympic sense, but that seems weak. I could see playing cards in a bar, but that's also not a strong connection.
Australia - dunno if they play rummy there or have their own variant, so nah
Box - comes in a box, but stretchy
Card - it's a card game, kinda a lock
Copper - not rummy, but 2nd on list so should be ours no matter what with unlimited clue
Diamond - a suit in cards, including rummy; rummy is about getting runs in a suit (or sets of a card), so if this were a 2 clue then this would be high on the list
Drill - don't see it
Mercury - don't see it
Mole - don't see it
Phoenix - don't see it
Point - you score points in rummy, like in lots of card games; worth considering
Press - not rummy, but top of list so ours if rummy is 1 card and then press/copper are the makeups
Pupil - students may play rummy, but this isn't a good guess
Space - don't see it
so one lock:
card
two to consider:
diamond
point
card+diamond: suited, Hearts, Spades
card+point: score for scorecard and score a point; cribbage is card game where you have that point tracker so more obvious connection than rummy, which is a point scoring game like lots of others; but he couldn't go Hearts or Spades so maybe rummy was his first thought for a card game where you score points (unlike poker where there are no points)
just card:
business
stock
index
credit
playing
basically a decent amount of options for just card so I'm thinking this is probably card+something but not fully convinced yet
we had bar 7 to start and platypus/loch ness we can assume weren't bar, so our last 3 have to also be bar words
so far:
chocolate
genius
contract
we have to go copper no matter what since it's 2nd on list and he clued unlimited so that's the 4th bar
you don't go rummy without card being ours I don't think; there are card bars so good enough; doesn't really matter if we like card for bar if we think he doesn't clue rummy without card
for other word:
diamond - I don't see why he wouldn't go Spades or Hearts as another suit + card or suited; rummy makes no sense here so I don't think we can guess that
point - while I like score or cribbage, maybe he's a big rummy player so it was his first thought and he didn't overthink it
point for bar? you point a things with long (bar-like) sticks, you have to score so many points on the bar to pass, people who are drunk like to point a lot, you have to clear a bar to get points; Olympics bar connections; none are great, but good enough for him to clue 7; he isn't going to go 6 and leave point stranded doing 6+2+1 clues when it's got enough of a connection
i think I'm on copper/card/point right now but want to make sure nothing else is better; don't think I would go copper/card/diamond unless I see a good argument for it
Lock to guess:
Card - hits rummy super hard; hits bar ok; basically a lock to guess
Copper - 2nd on list and he went unlimited so either top 2 or #2 on list is ours; either way copper is ours
So you're saying there's a chance:
Diamond - hits rummy, but so many more obvious connections; hits bar ok, but not amazingly; don't think we can guess realistically
Press - hits bar pretty hard with barbell used for bench pressing, etc. First on list, so is ours if card is only word for Rummy; given lots of options for card, this is in the Diamond situation, though hits bar much better
Point - rummy is a card game where you score points; point hits bar a few different ways ok, but not great, but good enough he would have included it in the count on turn one; This is prolly our best bet given the issues with Diamond/Press. I think there are clues like cribbage and score that he could have done, but rummy is a respectable option here I think
100% out unless I'm missing something:
Australia - they like to drink (like most countries), some Aussie beers in your bar, but would require Australia to have some huge connection to rummy that we don't know about; since we don't know we can't guess this
Box - crowbar to open a crate, bar fight connection; don't see rummy connection
Drill - some bar connection; no rummy connection
Mercury - nope
Mole - nope
Pupil - nope
Space - nope
we can bold copper/card if you are ok with those 2 so we don't delay if one is wrong
then I think I'm decently hard on point as final one
Def on copper/card, I'll bold those in a minute
I think I'm still on point as the third word, with press as backup. There really is no differentiating between cluing for copper or press + copper, and I wish tehre were lol
copper
card
Copper
Card
cool, we got the obvious ones
yay us
the differentiator is how hard the clue hits just 1 word or does it hit 2 words; if it's both press and copper then he either has to hit card super hard as obvious "just for card" word, like credit/business/playing/birthday/anniversary/valentine/etc. or he could clue 2 clue for card+copper like platinum, as that's then n-1 so press is ours and he clued card+copper as a 2 clue..but usually since 2nd word also ours there you just do unlimited
but either way, I don't think we can guess press when he clued rummy as that's 90% a 2-word clue, not a 1-word card clue
OK, then I think it has to be point. Go ahead and bold if you agree, or convince me if you don't 😃
point
gulp
I think it's right and I think we are overthinking other options for point that he coulda gone; unlike 'only card' or card+diamond options
Nice job, guys!

Diamond and press. Gah. Should have picked upon the video game reference.
Drill baby drill.
Good game.
I could have came up with a better clue for bed/drill, my bad guys. I didn't expect box tho, I figured y'all would be expecting something like spring or frame and would exclude that
