I don't necessarily agree with this at all. In fact I often opt when I have a letter in yellow to then put it in 2 spots on my next guess.
At worst you find it's exact location (save for the rare double miss, leaving you with a 50/50), or at best you hit both either green or yellow.

Yeah for us we didn’t have the L yet so focal>local to get 2 new letters
But since you had the l o a then local being a good word is prolly better than focal but it’s close and maybe 50/50ish
But without the L focal>local for me

Fair enough to disagree.
For me I feel there are many times where a player can determine the exact location of a miss without hitting green. It could be due to certain consonant pairings or other letter combos just not being possible (or likely). And, for me at least, I think it is "generally" +EV to avoid the risk of a double miss while also reaping the benefits of putting 2 instead of 1 new consonants in play.
I say generally because I am not sure I am going to take this board __ __ A __ E and go with KNAVE over STATE at some point due to the infrequent occurrence of K and V.
I guess it would be neat to see what a good program running these words would do. I am sure there must be something out there calculating the next "optimum" pick based on where a person is in the game with known letters in correct spots, known letters in wrong spots, and unused letters.
